…looks pretty bad! I know we have gripes with TSW, but this seems to be a pretty poor pretender! Seen at least one YouTuber get a Steam refund due to awful performance and the graphics and gameplay don’t seem great,,
Fair enough, I was just watching a YT vid and it looked pretty good to me. Will be interesting to hear about it on here from folks that have purchased...
I decided to give it try and I don't think the game play is too bad. With two cities and a scenario mode along side the timetable there's definitely more variety. However, the timings of the scenarios don't seem to be correct. I selected a 20 minute scenario that actually took around 45-50 minutes. The performance is pretty bad; there were only a few areas where the frame rate was above 30fps. I also saw some strange effects on the Oktoberfest scenario. I think this is supposed to be lights from around the city reflecting off the glass, but it seems overdone, and at some points I could barely see out the window. UPDATE: I've just changed some settings, namely, changed the version of Proton I'm using and the performance seems a lot better now, around 50-55fps
Personally, I find the game very interesting: enormous progress has been made since version 1, with lighting, save games, career mode and tutorials. I also use lossless scaling, which works very well and allows you to limit the game to 30 fps and enjoy 60 fps, for example.
Having picked it up yesterday on PS5, I have to say I am impressed overall. For me it takes a huge step forward over TSW with the career mode. It feels really immersive and like you are actually doing something a real driver would do, rather than just going from A to B and back to A. The sounds are another highlight. The sounds seem pretty spot on to me for Berlin (Not tried Hamburg yet) and a functioning announcement system that is controllable is again another huge step over TSW. Another big plus, is that in 2 hours of playing there was no game breaking bugs or crashes to the main menu, not even a hint it might which demonstrates to me a lot of time and care has gone into making sure it works as it should. Graphics wise it is not as good as what DTG produce, but for me that can be put aside for the reasons I have stated above. I hope this game gets updates and grows as it deserves too. On the metro scene DTG have a huge competitor here. Would recommend picking it up if you are interested in shorter stop routes
To be fair, this was basically my experience the last few times I tried to drive an older ICE service on one of the german routes in TSW. The flickering reflection in the window just made it impossible.
I was very tempted to pick this up tonight, but wanted to watch some actually gameplay before I made up my mind. I think this game has a lot to offer thanks to the scale of the two cities it’s representing. It will be interesting to see if Aerosoft expand on what they’ve build in future updates, paid or unpaid. I would hate to see this game become abandonware.
I played it for a few hours now, and I have to say I really like it. Especially the new HK Train for Berlin. Overall, a really solid Simulator
I got this, just because I really wanted to drive trains in Berlin. I’m really enjoying it. I already had Subway Sim 1 so got a decent discount on Steam, so I think it’s pretty good value for me. One thing I really like are the passenger announcements. They are really good and immediately reminded me of my last visit. I also like that they have simulated the platform mirrors. Scenary is pretty good close up but the distant scenery is not so good. That’s my main criticism at the moment. Overall though, happy to add it to my collection of train sims. Will definitely get a decent amount of play time from this one.
Useful to know. Will probably still pencil this in for a future sale as what with the Monthly’s to do in TSW, now being able to save SP scenarios in SimRail (albeit still in alpha), plus running tasks in Snowrunner I have rather a lot to occupy myself. Oh actually quick question, in SS2 can you save a run in progress and resume or not?
There is a save button. I haven’t had a chance to see if it works or not. I only ever start runs that I know I’ll finish. If I get a chance over the weekend, I’ll try it and report back.
It is a very good Sim. Very immersive. The announcements are amazing. Something TSW still does not have after all these years. DTG you really need to implement this soon. Career mode is more like a unlimited scenario mode , very nice, making it fun! Very happy with this Metrosimulator.
I have played Hamburg subway for Xbox series S and the game runs smoothly at the cost of 4K graphics. The Xbox Series S version seems to have the resolution set to 1080p for some reason which is strange because Fernbus simulator runs in 4K and runs fine.
Graphics are alright, but aren’t as good as tsw which is to be expected for a first console release. Performance isn’t good enough either, however the actual game is really fun. Locos well modelled and especially Hamburg is quite addictive
Any more thoughts/reviews on this? In my wishlist for an eventual sale purchase but good to get some opinions in the meantime.
Latest update on PS5 have improved the FPS by a significant chunk, and the reworked tunnel lighting is excellent. It is nice to see the game is being actively worked on and improved. Also in 16 hours of game play I have not experienced one game breaking bug, or any crashes to the console main menu. For me the career mode is what keeps bringing me back to it. Yesterday, I loaded up a 55 min session in Berlin, and there was a line closure halfway. It actually simulated turning around early and transferred from a U3 to a U1 service to shuttle between 3 stops and then onto a U3 to go a significant part of the way back before being relieved by the AI. It is the most immersive any train/ metro simulator has been for me and at the moment is getting played a lot more than TSW. It is just nice to know things are going to work how they should
I’m still enjoying it. I’ve remapped a few keys as I didn’t like the defaults, but that’s pretty much my only complaint. I’ve only played Berlin, as I go there often and it’s all pretty recognisable. The station models in particular. I’ve also noticed that when crossing a line that isn’t in the game, there is still AI traffic on it which adds to the immersion. Money well spent so far and as above. It appears that they are actively working on it. It’s never troubled me performance wise, but bugs I’d noticed are already gone and I’m pretty sure the lighting had improved.
Very good game now, the tunnel lighting is much better in Berlin. Still having quite a few stuttering and fps drops in Berlin on Xbox series x
As a PS5 user I've added it to my wishlist as a future purchase. Is it worth getting it at full price (Which I'm happy to do when I get paid) or shall I wait for it to come down in a sale.
Definitely getting pencilled in for my birthday Steam Gift Card next month. At least this developer has no qualms about doing sub surface routes and, by the sound of it, offering a much better experience than TSW!
What I like so far... Detail on stations is good and in cab. Nice variety on the routes Unreal 5 seems more stable and less shadow pop in AI road traffic needs a little work but its far superior to TSW Sounds are decent. Nice variety of trains and lines and its got busy timetables Decent weather Better on 30fps than performance as you get a much more realistic look. You get a good mix of underground to overground
I watched some streams and frames are really not optimal at all in too many areas, even with a decent setup. But I think it’s definitely worth a try; maybe with some tweaks in the settings, it’ll work out. Looks like they did a really great job capturing the atmosphere and the driving experience looks pretty authentic. The announcements add a lot to the immersion. I think the only thing holding me back is that I tend to prefer driving locomotives. But at least one of the units seems to be interesting/challenging to drive so I might give it a shot soon
Been playing this on and off the last few weeks on PS5, have to say I'm hugely impressed, game has already had 2 or 3 updates to address issues, for example tunnel lighting and other lighting artefacts, adding more track sounds, which puts TSW to shame. It's a very immersive game, dynamic events in career mode, the shift system actually makes you feel you're performing a role in the city, in many ways it blows TSW out of the water, can't overstate how much working camera screens and mirrors and announcements add to the atmosphere, and this inevitably begs the question as to why TSW can't implement these things. Buildings actually have modelled interiors as well, yes they're not exactly super detailed or high resolution, but again it really adds to the atmosphere especially at night and makes TSW night time buildings look frankly embarrassing. Also it's refreshing to have AI trains without having to worry about layers and which DLC you have. TSW might have the edge in graphical fidelity and passenger variety but in every other way this outperforms it, and how refreshing to play a train sim with no track shadows or stuttering. A few things still need updating, for example when it's raining and you're outside the train, it doesn't appear to rain. But I rarely leave the cab anyway. I went back to TSW last night, but after 10 minutes there was no atmosphere or immersion and I went back to SubwaySim. Anyone on the fence about picking this up, I highly recommend it.
When I get paid on the 5th, I'm gonna buy it instead of the Manchester Airport route. It's earned my money
Should have a couple of Steam Gift Cards for my birthday in a couple of weeks so seriously thinking of getting this. Apart from the E94 pack (which I’m still going to see what the Day One buyers say), the Class 86 pack which seems to have slunk off the radar, there’s zero much of interest going on with TSW. Same old linear gameplay, same bugs, same bus stop routes. Yes you could argue a Subway Sim is the epitome of the electric bus stop but there is a unique appeal over another DB Red or 13 mile UK inner city route. Add to that some emergent gameplay and I can offset the usual Aerosoft quirks.
The 86/2 pack will still be a day one purchase for me whenever it's released but I've a feeling it's been postponed for whatever reason, possibly to fit in with TSW6. But nothing else really excites me and work DTG leaning towards a pro-PC stance with regards to amount of services, this Sim interests me more than anything on the TSW radar.
It looks better now since launch-day. There’s still some improvements do to like the missing *clak-clak* sound the train makes passing over switches but it really feels alive. The station announcements is really something that adds a lot of realism to the game and yes, passengers do actually board and leave the train (they don’t stay in when the train is out of service) and they don’t have suicidal thoughts like jumping in front of you like on the Goblin Line. It might be a little bit boring after a while but you quickly want to play the game again. There’s more content to come and it’s really mod-friendly, there’s some nice projects soon available to PC but the devs are looking for a way to make them available for consoles too.
Looks fab. What I am interested to see is if they port over any creations over time onto consoles (obviously to be purchased) or if all new content moving forward will be pc only or if us console users will also get some content
They’re trying to find a way into including mods to console but I don’t think we’ll ever see that soon or at all. All new content made and published by SVI will be available on all platforms, they’re planning to do new DLCs but at this stage, no informations on it. There’s a shunter loco for the Hamburg subway coming soon though.
Thanks for the reply !! And it is really promising they are even considering looking to bring the mods over, and of course great as well that their own content will be available.
