I'm overly intrested in having proper functioning steamers. Just wanted to ask if this is possible now with TSW6? I often get into TS classics with the PRO series steamers or the Overhawled vanilla ones from steam sound supreme.
When (and if) you get a reply from someone, open another thread related to TSW 6. This way, in a short time, there will be 50 open threads on the same topic.
If their girlfriend’s or wife’s allow it, I shouldn’t see why not. Funky Monkey normally streams on Saturdays as he’s a stay at home dad Monday to Friday.
There’s more chance of getting the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway in TSW6 than working steam. Oh, hang on, the DHR is actually (mostly) steam!
Thomas and friends is the closest your going to get to steam in tsw from now on. By the looks of it anyway. I hope dtg read this and decided to prove me wrong though.
Looks to me the problem is that not enough people is interested in steam to make it profitable enough. Of course there is a technical component to it, but not one that DTG could not overcome if they thought steam DLCs would sell well. I wonder if people was really not interested in steam or just would not pay for the boiler/steam simulation DTG managed to deliver in the first 2 steam DLCs.
I really think DTG have been lying about how well certain things sell, like taking one look In suggestions shows there’s a ton demand and well in real life with actual rail tours + train simulator classic where they seem to do money wise so I really think they can’t be bothered
We seem to have two parallel threads running about steam potential in TSW6. However my gut feeling is unless there are fundamental changes to the core and how Simugraph projects steam traction physics, we are not going to see it. TSW6 will continue to focus on modern trains and routes with the odd nod to classic (non steam) traction from the likes of JT and TSG. My dream of driving the Somerset and Dorset in TSW will remain just that.
Growing up originally in Eastern Europe, old clunkers, steamers and old and absolutely old stuff is what intrests me. Steamers are epic machines and epic proportions, complex gears and lively systems. TS classic does have a number of pro range steamers like a re-done black 5 which I am still blown away by. i really hope the british classics that currently are in train sim world to be better off someday.
The idea that DTG lies about steam not selling well is ludicrous - any company would work on improving a product which sells well - and only work on lower selling products if they had a realistic chance of significant improvement raising sales above existing sales levels. It would seem that issues with Simugraph handling of steam physics affects the latter. Unfortunately, that also may be the reason why some older DLCs have not seen bugs eliminated!
Unfortunately the active users on the forum make up less than 40% of total users. So its still a minority.
Well if they actually made one with good physics/ stuff to do we wouldn’t be as a minority and you also have to take into count real life events for steam
Well according to the EP, and he actually has the sales numbers, unlike you or I. Modern traction sells the best. And Steam not so well. Also said in the past they basically have spent over 2 year on the physics and cannot make it work they want. Now it ls not worth it as they went way over budget already. So never going to happen sadly. Also the EP just said in May the stance on Steam has not changed.
Hey did you ever read the part at the end, I count steam real events which normally sell out within two days to show there’s a demand for steam anyways does said EP ever show off any other routes sales or are just believing this without a care of possibly fake numbers also they probably could fix steam physics but have chosen not to so they have a reason to not work on steam man if I have the technology and if I ever became a third party I would do mostly steam and let’s just say it would be making bank since of a demand for any new steam loco
Considering DTG are out to make as much money as possible I don't think they would lie about that. They make what sells best and it happens to be modern traction unfortunatly for us. This argument has gone on for 3 years now within the community and as recently as 3 months ago DTG have reiterated the same thing. You can't keep the same lie going for that long. And considering the sales numbers for 2024 fiscal year were double the year before they probably are right. At least all evidence points that way. Also let remember they never said it doesn't sell all they have said is it doesn't sell as well as modern traction. And again DTG is all about the cash they are going to sell what ever sells more, even if the margin is small between them.
like said by me and others another reason that don’t do it is because it actually takes bloodly time to get right and well we know this game likes taking shortcuts or picking wrong I would bet money on a tank engine pack out selling a emu pack and hell if they actually make a good steam route which isn’t like the other which are dead due to lack of other steam trains, that route would rival or flat out kill its competition hell steam fans are actually funding a new steam locomotive in real life which shows a love for steam and would end with more sales https://www.a1steam.com/prince-of-wales/home
There is no doubt it sells but since DTG need to make money to pay about 200 full time employees they have to take the more guaranteed approach to creating their routes. They have calculated that 4 months is the best to what a routes costs. If they were to spend more time and create realistic steam physics they would price the route out of most peoples price ranges the same as with longer routes. And it would become over budget. You may be willung to pay £60 for a route but most won't. Just look how the community freaks out ove a £5 increase. As I said this argument has been going on for 3 years now with DTG. Thier stance has never changed and I don't see it changing in the future considering the EP has reiterated in May their stance has not changed. It went over budget and they lost money on SOS and PFR just because of time spent working on the physics. So its obvious that UE is unable to make it work correctly. Right now Steam handles like a DMU. I can pretty much guarantee that you won't see steam in TSW6 or for years yet. unless you mean the gaming platform. Also I know an insider and they told me there is 0 work going into it right now. Which is a shame because I do love steam myself.
Hell we steam fans have even said we would accept a new steam without new physics…., anyways enough of this after I finish university I will get the technology and teach myself how to work the tsw editor and unreal engine eventually after a few years, I will make my first route/ addon to hopefully become a third party despite how often I speak out about their decisions like cutting steam. Planned list Doncaster works for suggestions and train simulator classic with the class 03, (this is to make a name for myself) My first steam locomotive (tank engine if one isn’t made before that) probably free or under £10 depending on the first addon sales —— anyways just telling you this….., honestly don’t know why, look I make sure steam comes back at some point
Thats debateable. I think its more half and half, if you look at the Big Boy thread about half in there have said they won't buy steam with the physics as it is. ( A large reason why they stopped production was also because they listened to the community who said they would not buy anything steam until they fixed the physics.) And the problem lies within Simulgraph, that coding is what would have to change but no way are DTG going to allow a 3rd party to make any changes to that. The editor does not allow it. So your going to lose about half of your sales right off the bat. But I do look forward to trying anything you are working on and as Adam at skyhook games said if you want a change don't just post actually get involved in making what you want. So you have the right idea.
Another point about steam locos. If you are a game developer, you could likely build an EMU or DMU or diesel-electtric loco after some research. But a steam engine is on a whole new level of complication in the realm of physics. You would need to be a serious steam enthusiast to work on a steam loco, given the other opportunities you would have as a game developer. Those enthusiasts exist, but the skills needed for recoding Simugraph must be rare - and since Simugraph is core code, consider the QA work to certify the revision as functional on all existing DLCs - good luck convincing DTG to do that.
