Today, when I tried to update Train Simulator, I got a red message saying "Missing File Privileges"

But that's not true at all, THAT'S NOT TRUE AT ALL! There's no such thing as missing file privileges! Can somebody please tell me how to fix this glitch? There are workshop scenarios I need to install, so I don't have time for this nonsense

No need to get excited about it. It's only a game. By updating, do you mean just installing workshop or updating the core game? This makes a difference.

Maybe it means you are trying to install a route or scenario that you don't own the stock for?

Possible that you can't write to the folders. Check property for the folder and uncheck 'write protection' if it is checked.

Steam.jpg Railworks.jpg It could be that he has inadvertently set to write protect enabled. That makes sense. Mine is not checked, instead it has a minus sign and I have no issues. Using TS-Tools you can bulk change all TSC files to read/write. My copy of Railworks is on a separate drive.
If the OP has not moved any folders to a separate drive then he would need to go to his Local Disk, normally (C) Program Files (x86)/Steam/Properties and change those properties to read/write by clicking on the small box to set to the minus indicator.
