AFAIK the only release for TSC will be the 2025 edition. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/ts-classic-update.91566/ What does that mean for the core game? We are sticking with the current version of the game code. We did a lot of work on the core last time, and we feel it is now stable for the majority of players. To make any further code changes would again take us along a path of potential disruption for players and for developers, and it doesn’t seem warranted or fair to do that at this point.
Yes, I also read that. Been hanging on for nearly 2 months now. I repeat, any news about when it will drop ?
Why do so many people here think that TSC is being abandoned? The article only mentions the year, 2025. If the new version of TSC doesn't arrive by December 31st, then you can say that TSC is dead. I don't understand most people here, and I don't mean to offend anyone.
There will be a new 2025 game/DLC bundle, but DTG have said there are no plans for further core functionality development and the 2025 release will not provide any. I think this is what people mean by it being abandoned or dead.
TSC wont die.. yet, even if DTG don't do much with it going forward, as a PC user I wouldn't go freeing up the SSD just for TSW.. Yes TSC can destroy ones funds but the amount of rolling stock available in TSC and all the enhancement packs to make it graphically better are just one plus vs TSW, while the major plus side to TSC is the amount of route coverage, which is far too great for anyone to want to really stop playing and solely focus on what minimal options TSW offers..... Why run SEHS in TSW where you only get Dartford to Faversham where in TSC you can run from Victoria, Cannon Street or Charing cross all the way to Dover and Ramsgate via Greenwich, Blackheath or St Mary cray sections of the line! or an ECML that actually starts at Kings cross and can go all the way to Edinburgh, not just Peterborough to Doncaster as the only option! On top of this many members have been bringing a lot of the old DLCs up to a more modern take, so many lines are close to what they are today.. and if we just got one of the Aventra class's (710) in TSC then for PC users there will be no need for TSW for anything UK in my opinion.
Yes i read that some time ago and got bored after the 10th post about fixing headlights...... But OK, we'll wait and see in September then. Thanks !
Thats correct, we have several months until end of 2025. But in one point its unusal. When they did some announcements then a release was often 2 - 4 weeks after the announcement. And Last Update to TSC24 was in a month May. That they did anytime so early an announcement for a new Version, I cant remember. Now there is again no noise, as it was before the announcement. So I have asked myself too: did their plan died after the lots of critics and they rethink their plans of a update with some more proper stuff? Or they wait until the Netherland route is finished, to bring this into some kind of "Deluxe Edition"? Thats not quite correct! Until TS22 the releases was in a September (or October). After then they removed to April/May. Here you have an overview: https://rail-sim.de/forum/lexicon/entry/56-versionsunterschiede-train-simulator/
DTG will probably never fix the headlight issue, but you can fix these yourself on an individual case basis by editing the headlight files view distance.
But as we have already passed April and May then it is more likely to be September or October this year
Can you please let me know where the view distance for the headlight file can be found, (e.g. Metro North M7/Metro North P32AC-DM)? I have been trying to locate the file to modify but can't find it.
After viewing TS tools to view the bin files from my v75.8a install and my v77.6b install, the Headlight_LensFlare.bin and Headlight_LensFlare_Shad.bin both have the same values for the fade start and fade end distances across both builds. I am not too sure what may need to be modified to get the flares in 77.6b to appear far away like how they did in 75.8a. Across both builds of train simulator (77.6b and 75.8a), TS tools shows the fade start distance as 0 and the fade end distance as 350, which leads me to think that the flare should output the same but unfortunately it doesn't.
Fade end distance is treated as "render end distance" in current version (77.6b). So you need to set this to a higher value, right now it won't show the lighs more than 350 meters from the camera.
I'm trying to find out how not to use light flares but still have the front lights on when viewed from the outside
I would be happy if Dovetail just finalized the beta that has been unchanged and seemingly abandoned since June last year, keep the things that the beta fixed like portal spawning and revert the things that are causing issues like signalling. Surely that can't be beyond the capabilites or financial reseources of Dovetail can it? Come on Dovetail make me happy, bring me sunshine.
It might be - depends on how much time they have as not many staff are working on TSC. They don't even fix faults with TSW so what chance does TSC have.
Why does this thread have to come back to the headlights issue. That's not why I started it. I couldn't care less about those headlights, its the time of the 2025 drop that I'm concerned about. So, the truth is : noboday has the slightest idea. Its all pure speculation. DTG are conspicuous from absence on this subject .......... J
Obviously its speculation as to when it will be released as DTG never comment until it's ready to go Why does it make a difference as to if its this month or not until later this year.
Because its nice to know, no ? Why give users a tantalising hint of something, then make them wait ....... ? Its the total blackout on news after an announce. But hey, par for the course i guess.
In my opinion, DTG wants to let it fade into obscurity by letting it sit on it's own laurels. More developers are only going to make content for TSW and soon only a few independent/non affiliated developers will be left. As far as North American routes go, most are surprisingly similar with recycled rolling stock and motive power. I have also noted that a lot of the included scenarios have become less complex. The few steam locomotives that have been released by the some are not detailed as highly as other independents, such as Machine Rail for example.
I don't think it is Dovetail's decision, their parent company that bought them out won't invest in a product that doesn't generate sufficient income. It is common sense, business-wise. I'm sure they see the future in Trainsim World, even if we don't see it that way. I do know that Dovetail's staff can't say much because they are all tied to a NDA - their not being permitted to share the circumstances with us causes a lot of unnecessary conspiracy theories and false ideas. I have two friends that work for Dovetail and even if they did disclose anything I couldn't tell anyone here what was said to protect their jobs. Personally, I think both products will eventually be usurped by something new from another developer that suits our needs better. There are possibilities in the pipeline, but they aren't anywhere near that point yet. For now we have to live with what we have. John
After moving from TSW to TSC and how much Im enjoying this experience to the previous one, I'm hoping people who create for this sim don't abandon it as well.. Got the right requirements recently and installed the Berks and Hants to Bristol and Penzance v4.1 scenery and all I can say is WOW and how good this part of the GWML is! especially after reading some old posts on how not so good the JT scenery was for this area (which this pack uses)..This is what I love about TSC there is just so much on offer for the UK that how can one get bored! shame I cant say the same for those short linear options TSW offers! Only thing I need to figure out now is how to replace the discontinued HST MTU enhancement packs that I never owned with the Current AP HST MTU Pack so I can enjoy this train on the GWML routes since many scenarios require those discontinued packs!
do you need to use that every time you use a singular scenario or is it just once and the scenario will use that loco you swapped in going forward whenever you run that scenario again?
Just to add that, Yes, you only need to do it once and it saves the changes. Also Locoswap will usefully append LoSw to the scenario name so that you can tell which ones you’ve already done. It’s a great tool. I used it a lot when I was starting out with AP packs to swap out things I didn’t gave.
Locoswap has just opened a big can of worms for me! On some of the GWML scenarios Im actually swapping out the GWR + XC HSTs for 800/802 + 220s for those journeys that no longer use the HST sets along with 142 for 166 to bring many scenarios up to a more modern twist...so far so good with no errors
Do we think that we might get anymore modern train variants in TSC ? I know new is not everyone's cup of tea and I do enjoy some of the older stuff, I just like my scenarios with the older stuff around a more modern feel (rail tours/freight runs etc). would like to see the CAF Civity range and Aventa class's for UK come into TSC, even a slight mod with consists + TFW repaint on 745 to represent the 231 + the 755 to represent the 756. Personally I dont want to have to rely on TSW for that kind of need.
Only if a third party builds them - not sure who that might be for UK trains DTG are not making anything, Just Trains seem to be dedicating their time to TSW. There was a Northern 195 shown but the body did not have the correct profile.
Need someone to develop an open source (OpenRails style) rail sim. That just reads the TSC files to operate. That way development can continue in the open source sim.
In theory we could, but I suspect the Steam related policies - profit sharing, price ranges, feature requirements, difficulty of updates, difficulty with licensing - are encouraging developers to set up and maintain their own websites and support crew. (And then deny Steam licensing.) I definitely agree from multiple angles that fresh stock is welcome on Steam. It's good to have a good range of offers. Even if not the absolute highest quality, I enjoy stuff like the Class 68 or 801. Currently one's best bets are German-Austrian content range and the US east-west coasts, minus the Charger. Arguably freight as well, given it's endless strings of SD70xx and Ex44Ax locos and they are available, except their models are really old with inaccurate sounds.
There will be no improvements, changes, or depreciation (a good thing) to the game. All new yearly "updates" will be a route collection option coupled along with the message that you will not get another copy of the game. All TSC content from DTG is coming from third party. While not technically abandoned they have certainly distanced themselves from actively making improvements or producing their own content. It seems to be on autopilot. I am constantly looking for independent non-affiliated with DTG content that doesn't look recycled. I have enough content to last for years. As long as enough people continue to purchase content through DTG It will exist in it's present form. Those of us who have been playing TSC for a while can appreciate the variety and options within the game. New players tend to like the better quality graphics that TSW and other Railroad games provide. Without enough new players TSC will eventually be sold, spun off , or shut down. The game has some value the question is how much.
After taking a break from route building, I´ve returned to extending my german freeware route and I am having a great time in the editor doing so. Suddendly, I could not care less about people on the internet screaming: "TSC is dead" or if DTG ever releases some sort of half-hearted DLC again. Everyone can enjoy the game.... there is enough content to work with, even if someday nothing new gets released anymore.
I am so happy the inspiration has returned to you. Remember i told you that the drive comes from the inner urge to create. As you say, the rest doesn’t really matter. I am not done with the Real Drives either. I make them for my own sake first and foremost. If people enjoy them that’s a bonus. And ofcourse there will be many many tsc players that will enjoy your (and your teams) work, the same way they enjoy the Rodachtalbahn etc….
