Quick question (assuming TSW 6 will be a similar process) If anyone did this on TSW 5 I'd be appreciative if you told me it's possible. After acquiring the free starter pack are you then still able to purchase an edition of the game. (Standard, Deluxe or Special) Curios because I don't believe I will have enough storage for a full edition + all of my add ons. My plan was to get the free starter pack, transfer all of my add ons then delete the TSW5 versions to clear up space, then purchase an edition. I would love some help. Thank you
100% you can - the free starter pack is kind of a gateway into the paid version of the game to some extent (as well as allowing existing users to get the new features for their existing content etc.)
The starter pack is just the core game with no routes. In theory you could even, for example, grab the free starter pack at launch, go ahead and buy the standard edition in the xmas sales for a tenner to get the base 3 routes, and then in the summer sales pick up the deluxe edition for the same price once it's on an even deeper discount, to get the additional route/loco stuff, and still overall pay less than what the standard edition cost at launch. You can generally always buy a higher tier edition of the core version of a game you already own on a store, though it varies game to game and store to store as to which ones will provide an additional discount for already owned parts of the bundle.
Think of the new TSW as just a patch, DTG are giving us this patch to upgrade the game. I took the free game last year because the new route I was interested in WCML was in bits, so I thought no I am not paying full price for that. Then around Christmas there were some sales, I looked at just purchasing some locos and by the time I paid for 1 or 2 locos, it was more expensive than buy one of the packs, so I bought one of the packs. If storage is a problem, look on Amazon for a PS5 M.2 heat sink 2TB or 4TB. If you have already bought a M.2 then look to getting the PS5 pro as she has 2TB internal storage drive and you can bring your M.2 across to the pro, then you can off set the cost of buying the pro by selling your standard PS5 and not having to buy a more expenstive M.2 and you are not wasting your current M.2, if that makes sense?
I believe what you're proposing is exactly what they were using to market it to new players. The free starter pack is basically a demo (remember them?): The base game, training centre and a couple trains. Standard/Deluxe/Special editions are just DLC bundles which just so happen to include the base game, in the case of TSW 5 & 6, that takes the form of the free starter pack. The store will likely warn you that you already have the free starter pack but it won't stop you buying the editions, you just won't get a second copy of the free starter pack.
A similar question to the OP. If you buy a special or deluxe edition but already own one of the routes included what happens. I'm considering getting the special edition because it's 80% off and so costs less than a TSW2020 route! Mega deal. I already own Bakerloo line and New York Trenton and I'd like Kassel Wurzburg so it seems like a great opportunity to get these routes heavily discounted especially on Xbox. I assume you just get the new routes you don't own? No issues with it trying to redownload?
You assume correctly, as I explained to the OP earlier in the thread Buying a higher tier version of the core pack for any game gives you everything contained in that bundle that you did not already own, at whatever price the bundle currently costs. Sometimes a particular game or store will give a discount based on what you already own from a lower tier version, but that differs between stores and individual games. The basic rule of "you get anything in it you did not already own" is the main thing.
Thank you. Yes I considered getting a USB or other method of getting more storage. I then realised I had most of the TSW4 versions download as well as the TSW5 versions of my DLCs. Within 5 mins I shaved off over 125GB
Here is one of many you can get, 2TB for £142 internal M.2. Very easy to install. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Lexar-Heatsink-Gen4x4-Internal-LNM790X002T-RN9NG/dp/B0CJY6VGV9/ref=sxin_19_pa_sp_phone_search_thematic_sspa?content-id=amzn1.sym.22bd82a6-6d4b-4c86-a0d1-26f75e51c4a5:amzn1.sym.22bd82a6-6d4b-4c86-a0d1-26f75e51c4a5&crid=2INFL66V0YV4N&cv_ct_cx=ps5+m.2+ssd+with+heatsink+2tb&keywords=ps5+m.2+ssd+with+heatsink+2tb&pd_rd_i=B0CJY6VGV9&pd_rd_r=01b3366b-112b-4b39-bedb-d113cbed03a0&pd_rd_w=Rg7c9&pd_rd_wg=xmejw&pf_rd_p=22bd82a6-6d4b-4c86-a0d1-26f75e51c4a5&pf_rd_r=52Q8DK0D0DZTCCSQD72H&qid=1753082112&sprefix=ps5+m.2,aps,133&sr=1-29-6b4e6f58-b7c8-49cf-b378-c33ed82e3b01-spons&ufe=app_do:amzn1.fos.d7e5a2de-8759-4da3-993c-d11b6e3d217f&xpid=Hea0FuOdq6GOG&sp_csd=d2lkZ2V0TmFtZT1zcF9waG9uZV9zZWFyY2hfdGhlbWF0aWM&psc=1
