LD stand for long downloads wait for your backward compatibility trains for TSW6. So whom ever has large collection as myself pls leave your console or pc on throughout the night. We knew this was gonna happen
But oh it ok. I am guessing many of us was prepared for this so get your coffee and donuts ready. Boy I hope there is more freedom in TSW6 really. Are we gonna expect any delays for this upcoming TSW6. Do anyone remember what happened when TSW5 came out. Any delays perhaps. Well anyway let hope they can pull this off.

Dude most consoles and PCs download stuff when it's switched off anyway so your advice while ment to be helpful, is rather pointless....

leave your console or pc on throughout the night.

l wish it was as simple as that!! I have a slow internet and 2gb takes nearly an hour to download, with a full collection it took me over a week to reinstall everything to TSW5, so l am not happy having to do it all again and pay for a larger electricity bill again. I just cannot see why DTG cannot release it as an add-on pack.

Yes it's not as easy as that. My wife insists we switch our broadband hub off at night to save power and avoid potential fire risk, though now we just got fibre apparently you do need to leave the wall box powered on. I would certainly not be permitted to leave the PC or PS5 on all night, nor would I want to anyway - power isn't exactly cheap any more.

I own everything that can possibly exist for the game, my collection most probably is bigger than yours, like I said my console will download everything if it's switched on or off, it's how most modern hardware operates.

What?! You turn off your internet receiver at night because you're afraid of a fire… I always wonder what people do with their freezer and fridge and all that you do know your house always has an electrical connection, right?! These kinds of measures sound so pointless. They sound nice, but in practice, they’re useless.
It's mainly for your own peace of mind, but in reality, it's just fear of the unknown, right?

No hate but more i wonder what people thinking :)

On the xbone both on gen 8 and 9 there is a setting in the options for the console for background downloads, so with that on you just hit what you want to download and it will just keep chugging away with it even if you are playing other games or have switched off but still switched on at the mains. It's that simple.;)

Thank you, l will look for that on release and give it a try. I presume it’s not the same on a PC?

I know Steam will download things in the background overtime while you're doing things while it's awake, and there's options on how you want to schedule said downloads. Now when it's in a suspended/hybernate state I couldn't tell you, I think it's possible, but I've never really tried myself. I'm rather odd in that I'm one of the few people who actually does turn off their computers fully on a semi-frequent basis.

It won't, Steam needs Windows to be running and not in suspend or hibernate to update stuff

Always open windows with steam, leaving them closed could be harmful to your health, including smoke inhalation.......

True, but if you're working your PC to death trying to download mammoth amount of stuff it could lead to smoke, as the new TSW tagline says, Expect The Unexpected.......

youre going to use the same amount of power whenever you download it, in fact overnight may mean a faster download speed so less power usage. Depending what else your router is doing and your band width. But even if your speed is no faster it’s not going to use more leccy

No problem have almost everything, it will take the same couple of hours as last time maybe 20 minutes more with the DLC for TSW5 as well. On my Xbox Series X.

Again the issue for me is not redownloading or a yearly release.

It the fact that for the entire life of TSW5 blurry textures have been an issue. And they basically said these will continue in TSW6 while we investigate.

So from day 1 TSW6 will be broken.

There's an Add-On Manager now. This thing should be able to tell the core game which DLC is installed and thus make it available. The TSW6 core should have that, otherwise it's starting to get ridiculous.

I mean, I still remember the days when the loading screen told me to insert disk 23...

If TSW can't finally do that now, at least it's free. And that's why, as a kind of compensation.

Or there'll be a special edition for 56k modems or a floppy disk collection. These days, I'm really expecting it...

If you already have the routes installed on your console/pc,why do you need to download them again when the starter pack is released?
I may have missed something somewhere regarding this.

Because you need to redownload the DLC for the new version in order for them to work.

That why for example if you search for TSW Southeastern High Speed you will see 4 versions of the route TSW2, TSW3, TSW4 and a TSW5 one.

When TSW6 releases there will be a TSW6 version as well. If you have purchased any in the past you will have to redownload the new version for it to work on TSW6, but its free for the new version.

So basically every piece of DLC you own you have to redownload the new versions of those. Since I'm up to 106 items it will take a bit.

    But thats life.

Let me clarify why downloading is necessary... It’s not just a matter of Steam or another store assigning a different version number. Each new version of the game includes core updates, and to make these compatible with older routes, the older versions are specially prepared. After downloading the newer version, they can interact and make use of these new core features.

So it’s not as simple as just copying the .pak files from one version to another, because the file components don’t communicate with each other. You will always need to download all files again.

Additionally, there are also regular fixes and optimizations that you don’t want to miss in the new game. For me, it takes at most 2 to 3 hours and the entire game is complete again mind you, I own practically everything except for 3 or 4 smaller DLCs. I understand it’s very frustrating if you have a slow connection and it takes days, but that’s just how it is.

Just another day in a life of a gamer ;)

    Doesn't at all bother me.

I'll just wait until I'm at work, then during the day when asleep I can have everything download in the background ready for my days off.

I would say that's a you problem. Your internet speed is roughly 0.5 Mbps if 2 GB takes an hour to download. This is absurdly slow. In 2025, how do you even get those speeds? These are early 2000s internet speeds.

You don’t have to download everything in one hit you know at least on steam, I’ll deselect all dlc and just down load the core and the new routes initially then during every session I’ll down load a handful of new DLC in the background and by checking file sizes and working out roughly how long I intend to play for each session.

I once had a Mrs that insisted everything was switched off and unplugged every night. Even unplugged the aerial from the TV incase of lightening strikes. I'm glad we didn't own a ladder. Would have probably made me take the aerial down every night too!
