Hello, Could anyone tell me if the weather changes for them in the dynamic weather mode? I have noticed that since last updates on my side the weather will never change under the dynamic weather present, it will remain what was initially selected for the entire duration of the timetable run ( 1 hour for example). I do not know if there might be a mod or something, even tough i have removed everything related to weather or it simply stopped working for everyone. Thanks for any feedback
Dynamic weather has been working for me… just seems to be more realistic in the changes being less abrupt and less frequent. Made a run on the Peninsula Corridor where is was clear but when approaching San Francisco, the fog rolled in. Nice.
Dynamic weather always seems a hit and miss for me, sometimes it works, other times it's damn right weird. Going from clear to heavy storm, to thick fog in the later months (between November to Feburary). I tend to use custom settings now rather than dynamic so my journey remains consistant. I hope TSW6 expands on the weather options though. I would like to see hail stones as another choice.
Hey, many thanks for the info! So it does work on your side. From what you said the weather might change much later than before, but still i did a full run on Zwolle - Groningen and Frankfurt to Fulda reaching around 1 hour mark and i did not see any change whatsoever. So either i might have been unlucky or something is off on my side, and in that case good luck to me trying to find out what . But at least i know for sure that it works for you guys now so its a start. True, and most of the time would use static or live weather when it worked to have the best results. But dynamic is also good when you get bored of the same thing and want some random changes, especially knowing that when it works right you get some fantastic variety. Or other times when you want to admire the scenery on a new route you do get that sun to thick fog combination to ruin your run as you said
Remember there are four different dynamic weather patterns which are picked based on the time of the year (seasons) - and given it uses the system date when you boot up, you'll see the general pattern of dynamic weather changeability change throughout your real-world year because of that. You can always manually set the date though (just the month is all you need to pick) if you want some consistency there or prefer certain patterns. Summer tends towards brighter weather, winter tends towards awful weather. Matt.
Thank you for replying Matt ! I was thinking that during summer i might not get weather to shift into rain or heavy cloudy but i found it strange that in August + dynamic i have started with partially cloudy or fully clear sky, and ended in the exact same way after 40-50 minutes without any transition from clear to partially cloudy or the other way around. I tough that transitions will occur even during summer with different cloud formations while ignoring rain or heavy rain out of the available presets. I will do some tests with winter months just to have easy of mind that indeed it will work then Also please keep improving the weather if possible Matt. I know that dynamic might result in to some unwanted issues sometime (like going into heavy fog to often during winter months) but can also give you some absolutely epic runs , like starting a sunny freight run on Simmering or Cajon and ending in a epic climb as you struggle for adherence trough heavy rain / snow. Also having sudden dark skies with some severe storms and then back to sunny puffy clouds is a treat Edit: Just finished testing December and indeed in about 20 minutes clouds started growing on a clear sky. I am quite amazed now of how huge the difference between months can be as dynamic weather behavior goes.
We still see the issue though, usually on timetable runs within Journey mode where we can't tweak the weather (without the God mode), where the weather starts sunny but then rapidly switches to a raging thunderstorm out of Wheel Of Time that never goes back. Or the even wackier behaviour on WCMLoS where it literally cycles between sun and heavy rain every 90 seconds or so.
Yeah i'm going to try and run some simulations of the weather patterns - they're set up quite reasonably at a glance but I suspect that the reality is those percentages need some tweaking. I can't understand why WCMLoS would be any different if you're just using the dynamic patterns - it's not actually possible afaik for content to add their own ones or change them. Unless they've added a new dynamic to a specific scenario or something? Can you confirm repro steps for me to see that? Matt.
Lately the dynamic weather patterns seem to hold longer. I'm doing runs where the weather remains the same throughout or most of it. Instead of fog rolling in after 5 mins.
It’s a while since I played it but I do recall it was a Down Timetable run but in Journey. Daytime run. Let me investigate…
My sister and I live 50 miles apart in England and both have weather stations set up in the garden, it's amazing how often one of us will see heavy rain while the other is sat enjoying clear skies, so while the weather probably shouldn't be cycling back and forth as much as it sometimes does, if you're doing a 50 mile service it seems perfectly reasonable to start in clear skies, then have a storm, then revert to clear skies. One day last month I recorded 11mm of rain in less than 15 minutes, she didn't have rain all day! Of course if you stay stationary the same pattern seems more unrealistic, but it's a game about trains so it makes sense it assumes you are travelling through the weather. The same with snow, there is way more snow in game than we ever see nowadays, but I would rather that than the crisp clear skies we normally get now. In terms of boring static weather during the summer, I haven't had a drop of rain in 6 days now, so the dynamic weather not changing on a service would be pretty realistic right now.
Where I live 8 miles down the road is the difference between sunny blue skies or overcast and chucking it down.
I think it's the summer months usually behave like this, just as Matt said earlier as you won't see hardly any change during the entire run. Try December or January and you will see a change after 10 minutes. I did some testes earlier in winter and I still did not see the fog appear ultra fast from a clear sunny day but rather clouds growing after 15+ minutes. I wonder if the fog is affected by time, meaning it will arrive quicker during morning or evening, or it just get chosen when you first play a new route
I know when I played around march I did get the heavy fog lasting for about 30 minutes. But It did take around 15 minutes of driving in clear weather to get to it. But I think you are right, the fog does not take into account the time of day when forming up, but it would be a nice little tweak if it would
That would be nice if it was just a dawn/dusk thing. The rapid change in weather sometimes feels realistic in the UK anyway. Sometimes when I do long journeys on a train in rl the weather changes a lot throughout the journey.
Is there a chance there's a bug somewhere that means it uses system date no matter what you set the in-game date to? Will have to do more testing (hopefully I find a window tomorrow) but I'm sure it was the same last year when in summer months IRL it did a lot less than in winter months.
I don't think there is such a bug, changing the date to December did change the three type and also the position of the sun on my side.
I always find it fun to see the threads about dynamic weather on the forums depending on the season. In winter you'll find people talking about how frequently the weather changes: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/dynamic-weather-on-antelope-valley-line.78122/ https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/dynamic-weather.88164/ And then in summer you'll find people talking about how little the weather changes: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/dynamic-weather-seemingly-not-working.72220/ https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/dynamic-weather-behaviour-lately.72486/ I think that means that dynamic weather is pretty good as it is. I don't have Preston-Carlisle though, so I can't speak for that issue.
