There are no automated routes in TSW. There's one in TSC, The Glasgow Subway. And to be honest, it's the sort of DLC you play a couple of times. It's very well made but it's just not very interesting, even if you over-ride the ATO and drive it yourself.

An automated route would still be cool. I'm not saying I want this, but the Elizabeth Line is ATO (CBTC) between Abbey Wood > Paddington, and then traditionally driven from Paddington all the way up to Reading. Same goes for the Great Eastern route.
And I believe Thameslink is also automated within its core section.

Best thing about that route was the excellent traction sounds on the stock. But as you say, it was a push button bore fest when it came to driving.

A partially automated route would be OK, as enabling and disabling it would be part of the experience. But you'd want it to be a small section.

An ATO section in a route where you'd otherwise drive manually is fine. Adds diversity in driving styles. The Elizabeth Line and Thameslink both operated at GoA level 2, so only the actual driving is automated. But everything with GoA level 3 and 4, like the DLR, is nothing for TSW. Anybody who wants the DLR in TSW should just buy an Oyster card and ride on it; no point in recreating that experience in the game.

Maybe if the passengers and guard mode were perfected, like flawless, the entire DLR network would be fun.

I can't imagine a class 345 is that interesting to drive anyway, even in non-ATO territory IMO
Hopefully. A likely candidate is Preston to Crewe, which I wasn't too fussed about initially, but could be interesting with the prospect of a slam-door EMU, which would be an new experience in the game.

I like LU 1996 Stock... And at one point it in time it was manually driven. But I don't think it would not make sense doing a backdated route for that type of thing, driving through tunnels.

However, I do think there's potential in a backdated sub-surface Metropolitan Line with A60/A62 Stock. I think a product like that would be in JTs territory. It could feature the transition between A60/A62 Stock and S Stock... At the time (2010 - 2012) S Stock could be driven manually. I believe the Metropolitan Line currently is in the process of being ATO'd, or has gone over to ATO.

The Piccadilly Line could be another potential route with 1973 Stock.

I reckon if there was going to be another Underground line it would be the Metropolitan line. Pretty much because not much of it is in tunnels, and only a small portion of the route is currently ATO and as far as I know it only got ATO on that short section a couple of years ago. It wouldn't be too difficult to backdate it a couple of years so that the entire line is driven manually.

Personally, I'd prefer to see a historic set LU
route if we are to get another, to enhance layering potential on any future heritage routes we might eventually see in the London area.

Plus of course the historic element would make for a very different experience and ambience to the current Bakerloo line route we have.

I'm hoping that this little chap gets its own route in TSW6.
Personally I think it would be a right barrel of laughs

I'll save DTG the time of developing an automated train game that virtually no-one will buy and I'll save you the cost of having to buy it. Just watch the video, job done. That's about as much "fun" as it can be.

Actually best bet for Czech routes is TSC as there are a number of very, very well done freeware routes that have been made. You can drive darn near the entire length of the country in some cases.

I think with the recent reveal of the Cross Country license something like Derby to Birmingham, South Devon Banks or Birmingham to Bristol could be on the cards as this would have both XC and GWR

Cross Country could also mean another section of the Northern half of the ECML or Western section of the GWR.
The 800 has only been used officially in one route and I'd think DTG will want to give it another route soon.

Not sure if anyone has mentioned it but Newcastle to Edinburgh would work. There's the Northern service up to Chathill, the LNER services, and now that an XC licence is available, the XC services too. Plenty of freight runs up and down, which would be a challenge.

It's quite a distance but it would be a flagship route if done properly.

If I had to chip in with my 2.5c worth of opinion...

I'd guess that the UK route will either be something involving XC and or GWR. I'm not from there so I have 0 clue where routes are or go from/to. Thats basically going off what I've seen and read on here.

Assuming its Germany again, DTG have said Berlin was a no-go at the moment and Frankfurt was in problem solving mode so neither of them? Again I don't know much about DB routes so I'm blank on that one lol.

US, I feel like Cali has been thrashed recently so I'd be real surprised if it's there again. I feel like it might be something CSX mixed with commuter ops as there are some really cool routes over on the East Coast for that and DTG have licences etc.
I'd die for the NS Pocahontas Division over in Virginia etc. Or PNW, c'mon baby!!

But then again, nothing really solid has been hinted at apart from the one thing that Matt said "great, great things". Oh and "expect the unexpected". Who knows what thats about huh??

Earlier in the thread we were postulating Florida as a possible new home for the next round of US route building. Though only if we get some Tropicana reefers!

As regards the UK, well sticking with thoughts of something GWR (as in the modern one), but I wouldn’t rule out something where TfW could play a significant role, given the under-utilised 150 and 153 from CCN need somewhere to stretch their legs. Cardiff (or Newport) to Swansea would fit that role perfectly. Though I still dream of ragging the 153 across the Central Wales line. LAMPOIL be damned, I’d be happy with 4 trains a day plus a couple of Railtours in each direction and plenty of scope to do the (slightly) busier 1970’s timetable with the Class 101 or preferably a nice new Swindon Class 120.

i did some diging just and ive reilsed that all of the uk bundle are mainline routes with the expection of tsw2 and tsw2020 so my thought process is somthing

swml south western mainline (i reckon something where gwr and cross county come in to play)
    gwml great estern mainline

i think this might be the case the routes are themed around mainline or hi speed and these are two weve not had yet

There are enough layers for this as well…let’s say the Voyager was included, there’s already the Azumas, plus TPE/Lumo from CC. One missing link is the 156 for the Chathill/Morpeth services.

I would honestly love the Elizabeth Line including the core section in TSW6. I think something like Abbey Wood out to Heathrow or even towards Reading would make for a great route. Sure, it's ATO in the core section but the idea of another general underground rail line sounds awesome to me and would probably require less work in the core as they're really only doing stations, though lighting could possibly be an issue.
One thing as well that they could have is the option to turn off ATO and drive the core section fully manually if the player is more experienced.
I do hope we get a UK route based in the heart of London, preferably underground, even if it's not released until next year or even the year after.

I would love the riviera line: Exeter st David's to Plymouth and Paignton with the beautiful scenery Devon has to offer such as the beaches in dawlish, and Totnes castle, as for the rolling stock, highly requested GWR castle HST sets would be nice, as well as class 158, class 165/166, and as of the newly licensed cross country trains, we could have the class 220 voyager as a deluxe edition feature.

I originally thought the Elizabeth Line would be a good idea but the excitement of all-stations stopping patterns, no freight and a fairly dull single bore ATO section would wear thin pretty quickly. Plus we know Heathrow is not possible due to it being owned by a non-railway company. It would have to include the full Reading to Shenfield plus Abbey Wood branch to appeal to me and I just can't see DTG having the time to make 3 lots of scenery for 3 areas of the London suburbs, even if some of it could be copied from the GWR route.

As for the Underground. The issues DTG went through making the Bakerloo tube line would suggest a predominately outdoor "Surface Stock" line would be more likely, so Metropolitan, Hammersmith & City or District. The latter is probably too big though.

Please no, I really hope there’s less bus stop routes during the TSW6 cycle. More of WCMLoS sort of routes is what I’d prefer.

Do you mean "commuter rail", as I'm fairly sure there are no driveable buses in TSW

Unless you're referring to Bus Simulator 21 Next Stop, which does indeed feature driveable buses on bus stop routes

I'm not a fan of this "Bus stop routes" phrase.
Bus routes generally have request stops that get missed during quiet hours. Which is rarely the case on Metro train routes.

I guess it could then be argued that every route in TSW is a bus stop route, besides freight routes, they all involve stopping at stations and picking up passengers.

Yeah, personally, I only see it as viable if introduced as part of another route as a sort of secondary gameplay experience. Obviously, we already have the London end of GWML, so only really GEML would make sense, and you could do some 'complete' services from Liverpool Street to Shenfield. Other than that, it would be to and from Stratford, but with some shorter runs to Gidea Park, plus plenty of sidings and Ilford Depot, you'd have a nice variety of gameplay just from the Elizabeth side of things. Plus, just from the content we already have in-game, there would be plenty of freight to enjoy (just in the wrong colour!).

Then I guess at least the majority of routes in TSW are bus stop routes. From a UK standpoint every route besides WCMLoS and ECML is a bus stop route.

IMO that route should be set a few years back as the current 720s that run on that line are very similar to the 345s. Pre-2020 you also had 315s, 321s, and 360s, which would be a lot more interesting.

Have you ever heard of Greyhound and Flixbus, they have a stop every few hours just like WCMLoS.

So any passenger route can be considered a Bus Style route.

I'd argue that Bus routes are more difficult than trains. Bus drivers don't have a safety features designed specifically so they stay awake because it is so boring.

Also why peple think there is a big difference between driving a 1 handle train or a 2 handle train. All you do is speed up, slow down and stop, and try to stay awake no steering, no turn signals, no kneeling the train at stops.

The whole reason I play TSW is to sit down relax and unwind. And play just before bed to help me fall asleep.

Maybe it’s because I don’t want to fall asleep in the cab of a one handle pretty much silent emu that requires zero effort to drive

I will never understand the people who enjoy stopping every minute to drop off passengers and then not even getting up to 40 mph before the next stop

the only time stop start services are good is when you are doing shunting around a yard

What about ECML, WCMLoS, LGV, SEHS, Brighton mainline. So you get up to speed and all you do is acknowledge warnings until you stop. So instead of having the most difficult part of driving..stopping and starting all your doing less of that and spending long distances just pushing a button when a sound come up. YAWN.

Therefore it takes more effort and work to run these bus style routes than a long distance one.

I've worked long distance freight for 10 years and LRT's for 25. And I can tell you the hardest part of my job as a frieght engineer was trying not to fall asleep, i was alot busier and more active driving the LRT.

Driving a freight train is really no more difficult to drive than a 1 handle train either, all you are doing is applying power and brake.

Speed limits my friend plus reliving when railways were good aka 1980s, also possibly unrelated but I have autism so I kinda get hyper focus on driving anything that requires more than two brain cells class 86/87, obb 1020/E94 etc,

it’s just really boring being stuck in the same 10 to 20 mile area for half these boring bus stop routes and the rest of modern eclectic emu routes where you barely hear any engine power + most of the emus have these tiny windows which just suck (ps I know that’s realistic but I really do hate it, it makes me feel so trapped.

anyways this rant probably got a bit derailed so sorry if it doesn’t make sense, to be honest nothing in my brain ever makes sense to normal people

Makes perfect sense I get you, to each there own.

I fall asleep playing the longer routes like WCMLoS, to me the challenge is to make stops within 1m of the stop marker on every stop with the commuter routes.
