Could someone from DTG please explain why they decided to put a Help icon in the bottom right corner of the forum screen, which is distracting and, particularly when browsing/posting from a tablet or phone can obscure the actual posting buttons? I presume the idea is it expands into one of those chat type boxes you get on sites like Amazon or utility sites.

There doesn’t seem any way to turn it off either - needs to be optional please.

Sorry for pinging Community and Forum Managers on this but the button needs to go, or be capable of being hidden.

Yes it is distracting on mobile. Do we really need a bot and why is it visible all the time?

The bot don't have a answer on the question how to hide the icon ;)

I asked it when was it activated and it couldn't tell me anything, so it's of the highest quality of chat bots available.......

Just to add that while it's normally a small (but still annoying) icon, sometimes it appears quite large which can only be resolved by closing the browser and reopening it (Chrome on Android)

Yes for devilment I typed in “Can’t release brakes” or something similar and all it did was pop up a bunch of links to manuals.

Also, I note a CM/FM has kindly moved my post to Off Topic, but failed to address the points being raised.

Introduce a 'new' feature then totally ignore any questions about it!! Typical.
There needs to be an way to remove it.

I only just noticed it. Now I can't ignore it. It's very big. How long has it been there?

Less than a week. I thought perchance it was just an iPad thing with Safari but it's on the PC with Edge too. I do have an ad blocker running but it must be embedded in the forum software.

Yes, it's very prominent on my Android phone and Fire tablet.
If it were small, colorless and alongside the other 3 icons in that area, I probably could ignore it.

It's an unwanted and not useful innovation.

In the bin it should go.

While I'm not a fan of such things, I do enjoy trying to make chat bots basically eat their own arses by getting it so confused it just starts dishing up gibberish.....

Makes it very hard to use the forums on a mobile, adds nothing to the forum. (and why is this in the Off Topic discussion forums)

I posted it in General Discussion, though to be fair equally applicable the other areas of the forum. However the mods decided to drop it down into OT, for reasons best known to themselves but apart from the brief one liner from Jamie they have not offered any further input. Just hope this doesn't turn into another "we know best" on the part of whoever decides how the forum operates.

It's another " barber pole " decision. No-one asked for it, no-one wants it.

That’s what I get as well. It also moves around the bottom corner stopping you clicking on things.

No excuse for a floating button that won’t be used 99% of the time, that can’t be hidden. Especially a buggy one.

Come on DTG, sort this out and either remove the button or give us a forum option to hide it.

I'm not seeing it on my phone. Turns out that if you're on Firefox with the NoScript extension and zdassets.com is disabled, no help icon.

Just gave it a try on my Windows PC (also Firefox + NoScript), and disabling zdassets.com does indeed remove that help icon. HOWEVER, I can't guarantee that it won't break anything else on the website.

It’s still there despite the promises to sort it out. Maybe it really is part of a campaign to p1ss forum users off and get us over on Discord. As said, a particular issue posting from tablets or phones as with the virtual keyboard popped up, it either covers your typing or the posting action buttons.

On Android, at least on mine, the giant size button has been fixed. However, I still can't turn it off completely and it's still intrusive.

I can turn it off by blocking scripts, but then the page doesn't format well and the new post button disappears.

The worst thing is, that it isn't even useful. I've tried asking questions and it just gives a list of responses where I struggle to find any connection to my question.

For example the most important question: How do I turn the help button off on the forum? Gives an article on WCMLS and a link to the CATAN manual. It could at least say that it doesn't know!

Yes, when you ask a direct question like " when will we get more save points? " , it simply brings up 2 or 3 old articles without attempting to give a direct answer.

The very best of AI, I guess.

Except AI is usually less direct than that.

They're kind enough to frame it as "helpful" at least.

As the wretched thing is still there (obviously some marketing whizz’s w@t dream and they don’t want to get rid of it) decided to ask about NYC Subway licensing as it’s a current hot topic. Only references were to the NY VR game, yes the one that looks like it has track from the old Big Big Train Set, which was about as much use as the proverbial ashtray on a motorcycle.

    :D:D

Careful Vern. I once used the appellation " some bright spark " in a similar way and was surprised when sternly told who it actually was. :D .

Another week and absolutely zero DTG Jamie?
May we assume therefore that this has been consigned to the back of the filing cabinet in the same room as Steam, BR Blue, Save Slots, the class 104......
You know, that room in the basement labelled Omnishambles.

So the button is to help people around the forums, gives them direct access to support articles and a form to submit issues as well; this can't be resized or removed.

We managed for quite a few years without it Jamie and its a particular pain when posting from a tablet or phone, as I am now. It does need to be optional, please.

Well this stupid button has had one positive effect. I've learned a lot about Android browsers and browser extensions.

As suggested by Calidore266, the script is referring to zdassets.com.

I found the browser extension ublock origin, that works on some android browsers (I use Firefox), added the domain and the button is gone.

Can't think of an instance where a floating button that obscures part of the screen would be considered good user interface design, but it's gone now. At least DTG commented the code to find which script to block!
