UK route sounds great if it’s going to be done properly (remember TSW5?), and a vintage US train in the Arrow is very welcome just for a bit of heritage action, as a change to the flood of modern stock we get fed all the time for the A to B whizzers who want to go as fast as airliners in trains that look very similar. Refreshing.
So, based on chatter on the TSC Discord. DTG already messed up Hoboken in the preview images. Apparently the platforms are not the correct height.
At least you won't be driving through walls and poles. Oh, wait, that was at Penn Station. Why "was", though? Expect the unexpected!
I guess now both Dresden branches are included as it is an extension. Without the City-Tunnel the S-Bahn services would be really awful as they end in Engelsdorf then. Only like 3 additional stations would have to be built as the others exist already in Rapid Transit and in terms of performance it would not be worse than Frankfurt as Leipzig is not as busy and the tunnel only has 2 tracks, would very boring too on the Leipzig side as in contrast you have multiple branches on the Dresden side but only one in Leipzig? Sellerhausen and Paunsdorf should also have trains stopping there, RB110 and RB113 at least stop there in RL, sadly we do not have any fitting trains in the game yet.
I'm suprised we got two new american trains. I think more NJT will be interesting and especially the Arrow III, which was certanly unexpected. I'm glad we got a bi-mode loco as well, even though it sounds like the route is mostly electric. I'm very happy with the UK route. I always like it when a route done in TSC is made longer in TSW, which isn't usually the case. I would like for it to be set in a transition period so that the HST could substitute in for the long distance service, but I won't hold my breath. I'm less excited about the german route, though I'm sure it will be interesting. Still, it feels a bit like Germany got the short end of the stick this time. It seems slightly boring, which is not helped by the lack of new rolling stock. That being said though, the DB BR 294 is much appreciated and will hopefully see good use on other routes as well, at least in future releases.
Why is the ballast so damn dark? I mean that looks like Bachman E-Z track I can guy at my local hobby lobby! Even comparing the photos side by side you can see the stark difference.
As is my tradition, even though I own absolutely everything for this game it's the most expensive version for me, got to do my bit to keep dovetail afloat, as I'm sure the slightly disappointed faction of the community will be screaming they are going to bankrupt the company because they never listen to players.......
UK route: Looks nice so far, don't know anything about it in real life. US route: Glad to see that it is a passenger route German route: Sadly only an extention of an existing route (Nahverkehr Dresden) was hoping to get an entirely new route. But overall, I'm looking forward to getting them all, just have to check if its better to get the free starterpack + all new content or the deluxe edition.
One thing I am generally disappointed about is that there are no new trains in any of the core routes (not including the deluxe locos). RIVIERA comes with the IET (seen in ECML) and the 150 (seen in CCN and WCL). LEIZPIG comes with the 411 (seen in FFA), 442, 146 and 185 (all seen multiple times). MORRISTOWN comes with the ALP-46 (seen in NY-Trenton). Compare that to last year: FFA got the 411. WCML:S got the 350. The year before: ECML had the IET. VORARLBERG got the OBB 4024. ANTELOPE got a new train but I cannot remember the name lol. I understand the developers have had to rework a few trains (the IET and 150 are the only ones that stand out to me) and not all routes need to come with new trains, but it is a bit disheartening as I feel like the one time routes do need to come with new trains is when they are part of the core release. Hopefully there will be a setting to control how likely one is to occur. AIU faults have a fairly miniscule chance of occurring so I wouldn't like to be inundated with them when playing normal service mode. It's a neat feature though so I hope many of the existing routes get it.
On the one hand I really appreciate the constant support with new versions and routes or features. On the other hand I am a bit disappointed this year. The German route sounds more like "what should we do? Ah, let's extend from Riesa to Leipzig". Many people, me included bought "Train Sim World 2: Rush Hour" back in 2021 with "Dresden to Riesa". I think the least would be, if those owners would get more than the pre-order and loyalty discount. The 294 for Germany sounds interesting, as does Stuttgart. Although I hope for some Bundesbahn content or a route with Nuremberg. Kind regards.
With the criticism around rolling stock... When you begin covering large amounts of a countries railway network, eventually there will come a point where there will be existing trains that fit onto them. Thankfully, for me at least, I do see the Class 802, 150 as 'different' to the existing stuff already in the game. Compared to the Class 801, the Class 802 obviously has a better and more powerful diesel engines, it will also have a different cab setup and ATP type speedometer and a few other visual differences. To be quite frank, one could argue that the HSTs the 802s would have replaced had equally the same amounts of visual/cab differences compared to their East Coast counterparts (apart from the modern variations all being MTUs) but were overall the same. The Class 150 seems to be comprehensively different with a proper GWR reference trip and even more new sounds. The Voyager though, that will be a completely new unit. But overall, from a personal opinion, the criticism about rolling stock is not completely valid. It is exactly what runs on the line in real life for the most part (well with the exception of the 221s and 158s) I will say though since the preview, newer shots of the Riveria line have been posted that have done it a bit more justice over the snippets featured in the announcement video. If I were DTG I'd start plastering them about as they look far more detailed compared to the Dovetail Direct video. I'm still on the fence as previously mentioned as I want to make sure the quality holds up in previews.
Happy with the German route (especially that the Friedrichstadt line has been included), not so happy with the German rolling stock. There is basically no new German core loco. Let’s be honest, the ICE-T was already acceptable on Frankfurt Fulda, hence it’s a simple re-use. For my liking an IC2 would have made more sense, would have closed a gap we have in the game today and would have perfectly fitted into this route! Happy with the 294 in general, even though, it will probably not extend the gameplay beyond a V60 or the G6 much, but as a deluxe variant I would not have expected another shunter. knowing, however, that the next expert loco will be the 145, this will add new opportunities to this route. The 145 did do local commuter trains on this line, at some point. This in addition to the Friedrichstadt for fright makes me really hopeful that with the arrival of the 145 we will really get new playing opportunities here. EDIT: forgot to mention: not even a new fright waggon added with the 294:,-(
I wonder if the TSW 6 core features will also be available on routes/DLCS we have already or if this is a strictly TSW6 feature?
Lindsay - Techincal Director. Attention to detail please! No joke. Free pack then sale. Looks okay, but Germany's a bit of a swizz. Might get the special edition as I have none of the routes.
ALP46 came with New York Trenton, so did the Multilevel cab car. I'd be inclined to agree with your comment... but we really don't have that much of the UK covered (although, yes, more compared to other countries). We haven't got any representation of the Chilterns, South Western (unless you include the IoW), Anglian, TransPennine (modern) or LTS. If DTG were to have chosen any of those regions they could've easily created two new rolling stock for it. Thinking about it now I think my point falls flat, it's rather an issue of the region and route chosen than just the trains.
I think random events will be on previous routes but I doubt they're going to implement the other features on previous routes. My main problem with this yearly release model is that older routes, even ones from a few months ago become completely outdated when the inevitable new game comes out.
Posted 16 July 2025. Gosh ! I am absolutely [expletive deleted] stunned and delighted. I really did not actually "expect" any of this to happen but you know what they say about expectations! Roll on TSW6, and a big thumbs up to the folk at DTG.
I quite like all three routes announced today. Finally for me, we are not getting another LA commuter line. The UK route also seems interesting, the only thing I’m not happy about is another IET… but it’s not a complaint to DTG I guess, more to the governmental body that also starts with D. Is it time to start TSW7 core route predictions or is it too early?..
I have to say I'm still trying to take in all the information about the core routes and the future dlc's. I think I'll start with the free starter pack and then add on the US regional plus the ALP45DP as they become available. I can't see a reason to revisit Dresden Riesa, though the original is very good. And I'm not convinced the Riviera line would be that interesting with such modern traction compared with the TSC versions. The Czech, Portuguese and Japanese routes sound interesting for the future, though, given recent history, I'm not entirely convinced that all of them will materialize in my shrinking lifetime. Ominously, no mention was made of the Santa Fe pack from HIS. Will it still be on the Roadmap?
It depends how well they do the sounds and if a few liberties are taken for the sake of entertainment. While the route west of Exeter is marvellous and iconic, it's a bit of an odd choice for the debut of the GWR IET. One would have though both DTG and GWR would have wanted to stretch it's legs at 125 MPH and also feature both electric and diesel mode operation. Sadly going to the west of England the overhead electrification runs out just east of Chippenham, Newbury or at Bristol Parkway due to the scheme now being in political and financial hiatus with no date for resumption, but something like Reading to Bristol Temple Meads would have been more of a showcase. Maybe DTG are saving that for another day.
I find it interesting that we'll now have an Azuma, a GWR IET (come on guys give it a nice name), and an Evero. How long till we get a Nova 1, Paragon, Aurora and Lumo 803 (come on guys give it a nice name)
You mentioned that none of the core routes came with new Trains. Not true as Morristown comes with the Arrow 3. I Just mentioned the ALP46 and multilevel also come with the route
The LEIPZIG-DRESDEN line is very good, very welcome. But will it overlap with the existing Riesa-Dresden line in TSW5? DTG could you explain? Honestly, the point of the Portuguese line completely escapes me, even though it is not part of TSW6 (initially).
Thanks for that. It's got to have been on the Roadmap since dinosaurs roamed the sunny savanna that was Cajon Pass. I'm putting it on the back burner along with all those other " believe it when I see it " routes and locos that were mentioned earlier today.
Personally slightly disappointed with the German Route. Happy with the route itself to an extent, but would've loved to see some proper new stock, such as the ICE 4 or ICE 2, or the Stadler Kiss DB IC, rather than the focus being the ICE-T we already have
I don't really know anything about development of the Stamford route yet other than what's been publicly discussed. I've been swamped with Morristown
I must say that the new routes are certainly a welcome edition. It's nice that riesa dresden is getting an extension. The Rivera line has been suggested many times and it is nice to have GWR back. The Morristown Line is also nice though I don't get why the ALP-45 DP doesn't layer onto New York to Trenton given that they run the Raritan Valley Line and NJCL services in real life. Some of the new core features are cool like the passenger announcements and random events. DTG are also planning on improving passengers although they said they do that for TSW 2 rush hour and TSW 5 and no improvements were made so I will believe it when I see it
Just watched TinTins most recent video where he gives an insight into actually playing the Riveria Line at the DTG Ambassador event a few weeks back. Actually sounds like really positive stuff, particularly as a YouTuber I trust with the same eye for detail as I have (Recommend a watch). I still think I'll opt for the release day purchase of the Riveria Line + 220 if I do change my mind.
No. Knowing Dovetails track record, I expect it to still be stuck in the TSW 2020 era. Also, does anyone know what year the Morristown route is set in?
I second this... loved the route on TSC and I think it´s a great choice for TSW. Really looking forward to this one.
I posted the BR 294 on the suggestions forums a while ago. Seeing G6, BR 204 or BR 363 everywhere is totally out of place... BR 294 is THE german workhorse. I´m happy for it to substitute everywhere. It will make every German route more realistic.
I'd say as close to modern day without there being any construction for the new Portal bridge. I forget which year of timetable Joe used though.
I really think the end point of the route should be brought further to New Haven. For Amtrak Northeast Regionals, the only stops made are NY-Penn Station, New Rochelle and Stamford. For the Acela, the only stop is NY-Penn Station and Stamford
Yep, and it's why I don't like the route choice. It's just incomplete. What's the point of driving the Amtrak if its only making 1 or 2 stops, with the Max speed for the majority of the line being 60-70 mph? New Haven is a natural terminus point for both Amtrak (crew base) and Mnrr. but having said all that, I do appreciate DTG's efforts.
I do agree that Dresden - Riesa actually isn't as great as people generally think it is. It definitely has the potential to be that good though, so I think that's actually a good reason for, not against, revisiting it! Getting Friedrichstadt is great, that'll make the freight side of things much more realistic, and add to the RB31 services. And with the rolling stock that's come out since DRA (mostly the 642) Dresden should be far less of a ghost town than it is currently. Getting to drive the RE50 for longer sounds good too, in my opinion it really hits the sweet spot for a good balance of fast running and regular stops. Shame the Leipzig City Tunnel and S-Bahn 442 aren't in the route though. That way the fun branches and alternative routes are all on the Dresden end of the route, and then the west half is just a straight A-B thing. And a redone S-Bahn 442 would have qualified as a "new" train for me, which the route does lack now. I don't think not having new trains is the actual issue here though - of course most of the correct trains for the route are already in game, they were in DRA! What does feel weird to me is that many of the trains (ICE-T, 146, Dostos, and the 143 and 114 are near-identical) were already part of the German core route of last year's big release! So it's not just that someone like me who owns pretty much all German content doesn't get anything new - even someone who got into TSW last year and isn't that interested in German trains but got the TSW5 core route will just get the 442 and 363 new! On the other hand, the 294 is very exciting! I think it will make a big difference! If it doesn't, the only reason is because previously DTG made the 363 do road moves (like Riesa - Weißig for the chemical plant) that it's not really suitable for and that should've been done by a 294 to begin with. Having a proper "road switcher" is long overdue, and this will be a loco that can layer onto almost every route in the game.
Its been speculated the reason it ends at Stamford is the same reason that New York Trenton ends at Trenton, and that Stamford is the terminus for CT Rail's Shore Line East, and DTG doesnt have a license for CT Rail, so they didnt want to go to New Haven and miss CT Rails Traffic. But the thing is..... CT Rails' Shore Line East uses the same M8's that Metro North uses that will come with the route. So they "could" of made a 2nd unbranded version of it to fill out the Shore Line East. The other thing could be is that DTG didn't want to stretch it to New Haven to avoid terrible scenery due to a longer route.
