I am checking forum sometimes but I do not see the "old gang" or atleast very rarely.

I bounce back and forth between TSC and TSW. While I enjoy both sims, I am starting to like TSW more and more as it gains traction. I somewhat put the simulators on the back burner for now as I have been studying lately but periodically see the forums from time to time.

Once it was made blatantly apparent that DTG don't give a toss about the TSC player base it kinda made this forum defunct.

That and a few decent members got ousted because "snowflakes lives matter" and here you have it..

I just don't post in here much these days because you just end up in arguments with people if you so much as challenge anything they say, even if what they are saying is blatantly incorrect, and you demonstrate that it is.

I'm still doing occasional runs. Currently tidying up Jetgrif's Settle-Carlisle retro route.

I still play it. So much content that i will probably never need to go elswhere.

And TSW has something off that i cant really name, just the overall feeling, for some reason it looks worse (for me !) than a good old TSC despite its age.

Still playing. Probably 3 to 4 hours a week. Still buying the occasional 3rd party DLC. My specific focus is on 1960s to 1980s North West England, which is probably a bit niche. I do play lots of other games too, mainly simulator type games, flight sim, Euro truck sim etc. I also like to play 1st person "open world" shoot-em-up games. So I dont exclusively play TSC and nothing else, but it still plays a big part in what I do play.

Sounds interesting. Is this something just for yourself or maybe be made available to a wider audience ?

Yes, TSC is still the sim of choice for me, the depth and variety of stock and routes is still much greater than TSW and there is a lot of new upcoming content that i am looking forward too. I really have tried to like TSW but it just doesn't have the same level of immersion and the stability and performance is still sub-optimal.

I've been driving and building for 13 years now. I was disappointed with TSW and it wasn't for me. So TSC is good for me.

I play this and TSW on a daily basis. Not much to talk about in TSC as things are pretty stable (for me at least) and not much new happening. I have the full AP, JT, ATS and RSSLO catalog (minus the new mines pack). Hoping to see some stuff come to ATS soon. Also Class 66 AP soon. Just enjoying using my purchased investments. Disappointed with the lack of coverage in USA. Would love to see more of the Amrtrak network coverage. USA seems to be very spotty (also very large!). I live in Mid-West USA and do not see much coverage from here (mainly East and West coast)

I've been playing TSC since 2015, driving the tracks and building my own routes. I also own TSW, but I've only played TSW for 3 hours since then. I only build my routes in TSC.

Frankly fallen off my radar. Never bothered reinstalling on the main PC after my last content purge. Laptop seems to go into overdrive loading even a simple route to try and build on. So despite (according to Steam) having 290 DLC not to mention all the indie stuff it would take something radical to bring it back.

These days, if I want an alternative to TSW I hit up SimRail, Zusi 3 or occasionally Derail Valley, Railroader, Run 8 and DRS.

Many got the boot because of various reasons so they may still be enjoying this great sim just not posting on such a argumentative place.

I first got Train Simulator 2012 and I'm still playing TSC.

I tried TSW but there was so much wrong with the the way you play the game.

On the GWR a scenario where you relived a 66 in Reading and shunted to the next platform to pick up a demic HST.
The driver was expected to walk down to the rear cab to check something and walk back but there is no Brake Test.
One Scenario you approach Slough on Green Signals only to find the last Signal is Yellow and a position 4 in to the Bay.

And I got fed up and when back to TSC.

When Manchester - Leeds appeared I got that and started playing the route but many things were wrong and spoilt what was trying to be achieved.

Lots of Semaphore Signals but they could not be bothered to place Signal Boxes next to the line.
The Driver on the Class 101 DMU has to push a button for the doors to open - Wrong
The driver then has to push another button to close the Doors - Wrong.

So I have not played TSW since January 2020 and it has been uninstalled.

I don't know what you mean by the "old gang" but there are certainly a few who (like me) tune into the forum regularly to see if there is something new to learn. But as time goes by there is obviously less for people to ask about or answer as most will have been said already. So you shouldn't expect the number of posts to equate to the number of users.

At the same time I am suprised that there are several above posters that imply they use the game rarely, if at all. Do they have that little to do in their lives but tune into forums on subjects that barely interest them?

    Best regards,

    John

I could send you a copy when it is ready(er) as I'm sure he would be happy for it to get a wide audience - though I wouldn't put it up on a website as I don't think that I have the right.

I'm still playing TSC, with at times renewed interest since I started volunteering on a heritage railway. There's nothing like seeing a real Class 50 in BR Blue hauling a rake of Gresley teak coaches to make you think, "I'd like to try that at home"!

I've largely withdrawn from the screenshot competition, since it's become sparsely entered and chaotically administered.

I occasionally play TSW and I'm slowly building a DLC collection for it, as I think it has the potential to be better than TSC, but still has some way to go. If I see something in TSW that interests me I may get it, but currently I have an iron rule of 80% or more discount before I will consider buying it.

I like some of the announcements for TSW 6, but I mainly use TSC because of route building.

There isn’t much activity on this forum because the TSC community has long-established dedicated websites with forums for each country, many of which have been around for over a decade. Examples include Railsim.de, Railworks Austria, Railworks America, Dutch websites, French forums, and more. Hundreds of people gather in these respective places.
The TSC community is very active, with each country having its own scene where creators use the editor to make content and share their work in dedicated spaces, while the TSW community tends to congregate on the DTG Forums, making endless suggestions for new DLC and speculate about upcoming releases.

I have over 10,000 hrs on TSC compared with the 15 Hours I have spent on TSW.
I have invested a considerable amount into TSW in the hope it would take train simulation in to the next era.
Sadly I now realise I have wasted a considerable amount of funds on a game that is more focused on running around stations replacing missing maps / adverts and picking up useless garbage that have nothing to do with driving a train.
As for the over exposed glossy graphics that is the default in TSW, it is not in the same ball park as TSC with the added AP Weather etc. additions which provide an almost photographic experience.

Match these screenshots with TSW ............ I rest my case:D
I will always be a long standing TSC player as long as it exists, hopefully until the day I can no longer press a key on a keyboard.:D

I just feel like there isn't much to these forums these days.

With DTG not really making updates or releasing content, the community itself most likely went to other places for discussion.

Yeah, there is some things here and there, but it isn't what it used to be...

I still play the game regularly, I usually do one scenario each day. TSW may be more popular these days because it's a lot more accessible but as many of us have been saying TSC at the end of the day beats out TSW by a long shot. TSW's yearly re-releases with the price going up each time is a very questionable practice and TSW has not yet touched the variety, creativity and realism that TSC can offer. I do agree though that as time goes on this side of the forums get less and less active, and I no longer see familiar faces anymore. That can both be contributed to the fact that maybe they got tired of TSC, possibly demotivated by the release of official development and DLC coming to an end or it's simply a situation with balancing life and free time. Many people here have played this game since it's release and earlier sims as well like MSTS, with quite a few people on this side of the forums now being quite old and so they either want to move onto other things or spend more free time on other life commitments such as family and at worst may be facing issues with their health all which goes without saying is a far higher priority than playing this sim on a regular basis or contributing on the forums.

Talking of getting older …. There was an interesting YT video on how Flight Simming for the over 50s is a good way to keep the mind active as get older. Guess the same can be said for Train Simulations!

I enjoy TSC because I can drive full routes and replicate real life services.

However, Strangely enough, as I get older i am enjoying TSW shorter drives a bit more, and TSW5 does work better on my new higher specPC. (TSC doesn’t but still works perfectly fine on my old PC).

Much prefer this side of the forum, as you do find solutions and ideas, where as TSW seems to be aimed at reporting faults for DTG to ignore fixing, and instead concentrate on generating more TSW content / revenue through mass volume DLC (that mostly have major playability issues from day 1) (a DTG trademark on both sides of the games!)

In modern times (house, family kids cat etc) I re-started my simming with TSW, I've got a whole heap of DLC spent quite alot of hours playing TSW but it has issues compared to TSC, it also has pro's too!

    Con's TSW vs TSC

Lighting in most cases is awful
Lack of variety routes/rollingstock although this is improving over time
    Short routes
Freight has lots of room for improvement

    Pro's TSW vs TSC

Startup & go, once started 99/100 it keeps going without errors (PS5)
Get out of cab & walk which is nice when changing ends/route setting
The graphics are marginally better imo than tsc
Timetable you can just jump into & drive
Far less messing about to go for a drive.

I got TSC in 2022 after I had been playing TSW2 for some time, my goal was to have a fully functional WCML & after more £££ than I care to count I'm virtually there. TSW does not get close to this yet.

I'm currently spending far more time on TSC than TSW, yes its a faf at times & it likes to crash for fun but once it's going it's brilliant!

The TSC community is very lucky to have Armstrong Powerhouse, ATS & a variety of others keeping the sim alive, I'm sure its got atleast 2 to 3 more years of decent DLC in it before even the afformentioned developers will likely wind down TSC content & move on as it becomes less financially viable to keep developing new content.

Regarding the "old gang", it's like anything in life, things change. Some will move on with their interests and leave train sims completely for other hobbies, some move to other train sims, some have quarrelled with other users or admin and left the boards and a few have just disappeared completely. I suspect the grim reaper may also occasionally thin numbers.

The DTG TSC boards are not as active as they used to be, but with no change to the core and with TSW slowly getting better, that's not surprising. Lets enjoy what we've got, but recognise that nothing is forever. Take care to back-up your DLC as the sites they came from will eventually go down.

    100% TSC for me.
With TSC I can drive trains and routes from my own country which is a huge advantage over TSW imho.
So as long as TSW doesn't offer that content i will stick with TSC.

The downside is you have to drive what the scenario gives you - no LocoSwap.
Some Czech guys made a patch that enabled you to use a different loco in a scenario

So instead of driving the default Sulzer Manchester to Leeds I could driver a smaller one and I liked that.
    33_Mirfield.jpg

But then DTG removed that feature
And there is no Quick Drive
