I noticed in the faq when I was reading through it they say it has a "new" list but that going forward dlc wont have any. Which in all honesty carries on the policy that started in TSW5 when loads of dlc had no achievements especially I noticed on routes not available on PS4 / Xbox One? (probably due to Xbox One and Series stupidly sharing achievement lists) This is dissapointing as I liked getting the achievements, but I suspect this is because of so many broken achievements / trophies over the years and this will cut down on stuff being broken. So I wonder will any be for the base content or just generic do X amount of miles / training / scenarios ect. That will also see the end of getting the collectables for me as without any achievements wont be as much point trying to get them now. I do suspect as well with many more 3rd parties working on TSW having trophies / achievements could delay things if they are done wrong. Its a shame but I do understand. Looks like nothing will top TSW2 for score on True Trophies then!
As much I like collecting trophies, I breathed a sigh of relief when read the news. Only true veterans of this game remember the BS we had to go through to unlock some of them in the first 3 games. People were complaining here constantly how their 100% profile got ruined because DTG's unwillingness to fix broken trophies. And iirc Matt said on a stream years ago that trophies were just a thorn in his side. Bottom line, trophies were fun when they worked, but I definitely won't miss them on new DLCs.
so long as they put in 100 working achievements at release of TSW 6 i would be fine with dlc having no achievements there are plenty people who like collecting achievements while driving a train
I wonder if this is a sign of how many DLCs will skip Gen 8 consoles, they couldn't work out how to do trophies for the Gen 9 only routes in TSW5 and I suspect most TSW6 routes will just skip Gen 8 entirely.
I suspect gen 9 only trophies did not happen as on Xbox gen 8 and 9 share the same achievement list and my guess is MS wont allow a game to release dlc that can only be got on gen 9 It did feel like they did not even want to attempt to fix the trophies. I do feel they did go overboard in TSW2 with over 400. They could always add more generic trophies / achievements to the list rather than route specific. But either way it does reduce time needed towards them. It could cost them in terms of some trophy / achievement hunters as they will buy base game and nothing else
Then, "going forward," I will not buy any. Simple as. What's the point of doing all these services if there won't be a permanent record of me having done so on Steam? What would be the reason to buy DLC if I can have this game "100% Completed" without any? For me (and I promise you, for many more players on the more casual end of the spectrum), there is almost none. There are tens of thousands' worth of hours of services I never played in TSW2-5, might as well stick to that.
Hopefully to compensate, there will be a bigger list of core achievements. They'll need some with bigger completion goals if the achievements are to last for the next coming year, you can usually finish the core achievements within 2-3 hours on TSW 3 through to 5. For example, they could do tiered bronze, silver, gold achievements for the following: "Drive X number of miles" - B 1,000, S 10,000, G 100,000 "Complete X number of services" - B 250, S 500, G 1,000 "Earn X number of Platinum medals" - B 250, S 500, G1,000 "Find X number of route tasks" - B 100, S 200, G 300
I hope so too, if TSW 6 has exactly the same standard core Achivements as TSW5 then it will be really easy to complete this game This could be developed further, for example: - Drive X kilometers in Germany, Great Britain and so on - Drive X kilometers with Diesel Locomotives, electric Locomotives, EMUs, DMUs This Way you could also go Achivement hunting with older Routes.
The core TSW 2018/19 trophies were the best IMO. They were much longer to achieve but had some actual sense of achievement to them. These days it’s more like drive 43km in a 143 & it’s pretty pointless, they can be done in a couple of hours. Time & time again you see the achievement discussion kick up a storm with those who can’t play games without them, but then what are you really getting from something you get for driving milage that’s achievable in 1 service, completing a scenario & doing the training. Then you have the same repeating trophy of complete all route tasks & scenarios. They just need to go back into the core release & be generalised, actual worthwhile achievements. To be honest, I’m not even convinced they’re that popular. Looking at PlayStation, many of the trophies are obtained by less than 5% of players - the only ones that seem to get completed en masse are the ones you’d get from natural progression, such as drive 5 miles & do 1 training module. 0.3% of players on PS5 have the platinum trophy & there’s really nothing difficult in the full list. 3.9% have created a scenario in the planner & 1.4% completed their scenario. 5.3% have taken a photo in photo mode & 7.3% (Beginner) 3% (standard) & 2.3% (expert) have completed an official scenario. The WCMLS trophies are even more telling, not a single one has a higher than 4% completion rate. Obviously this is only the PS5 version, so I’m not sure what the stats look like on other platforms, but I find it hard to believe that PS5 specifically has a user base that doesn’t go for trophies.
when you look through PSN profiles many of the trophies have really low unlock rate. I feel if they don't want to add content specific trophies / achievements that glitch they should as pointed out add more generic ones that can be gotten by playing all the content / miles travelled / walked ect I did complain they were putting in the same achievements over various games like complete all GW scenarios rather than adding new stuff. I do wonder how much effort they put into them as TSW4 I believe the plat on PS was like complete all trophies in TSW3! which gave the impression they were copied and pasted across I hope we dont end up with TSW6 having like 30 trophies / achievements and that's it, for a lot of people why buy any more dlc unless its something you want ?
You say for a lot of people, but are a lot of people buying DLC just for trophies? Is it even a factor for the majority? I can’t see a single DLC list on PS5 that has anything in the double digits for percentage. The highest DLC completion is a 5.1% on FTF. All of the non core releases are less than 0.3% completion per trophy, the majority of them are 0.1%.
I've never purchased TSW or it's accompanying add ons for achievements. The only ones I aim for are the medals for performance skills at the end of the drive. Outside of that I've always felt achievements and trophies are just like a child getting a gold star in a class room. I buy the game for the simulation element, I didn't buy it for any other reason or to get an 'achievement' that doesn't hold any value. "Drive 377 miles in a 377"... Its hardly an achievement when I'm doing it regardless.
I started playing TSW as soon as it came to console, really happy to have a train sim on a console. I wanted to achieve completing a timetable service, so I did on GWE before your progress got transfered to the new game, I ended up doing it a second time once TSW would transfer over your progress. I don't even think you get a trophy for completing a timetable and that is one of the biggest things you can do in the game. I am just happy enough to be able to do it and have my bad driving rated on each trip. I play games to have fun, not collect trophys. How about DTG give you a free DLC when you complete 5 timetables, but I think DTG do give us a free DLC every year don't they?
The only downside to not having trophy/achievement support for me is I won’t touch scenarios on new routes now, I’d only play scenarios when going for the “complete all scenarios” trophy on PS. I prefer timetable mode anyways and do dabble in the occasion journey mode.
same with collectables depending on route they are time consuming and would anyone bother with them at least go out of your way when no achievement ? On the positive with less achievements / trophies less things to go wrong
I'm 50/50 with them myself to be honest. I think it's neat when they're there, but I won't lose any sleep if they aren't. Like you, I use the in-game driver level, scenario/service counters and medals to track my progress rather than a platform holder's achievement system.
I don't buy every route. As long as we had trophies for them I bought some routes that may be nice even if they are not within my core interest as I like getting Achievements (no hardcore hunter going for 100% but adds additional fun to me). So, as we will not get any further achievements from here, I will seperate more, if I buy a route or not. And I fear the base game will have the same copy & paste achievements we had in TSW 3, 4 and 5 where most of them are collected within a few minutes after starting the game
Doesn't bother me at all, I don't use achievements - they don't track which services have been completed to a platinum (gold for pre-TSW4 releases) medal, which is what I use to determine if I need to replay it or not.
https://www.exophase.com/game/train-sim-world-6-standard-edition-epic/achievements/ Here we go again for the same achievements as in the last iterations Just read this again. So going further this line would take us to no more passengers on the routes as the passenger system has also been broken for a very long time
Bring back the 10k miles trophy/achievement. I’d rather have something to aim for then getting the platinum trophy on the same day, since most of the trophies auto-pop anyways.
It’s clear from this list that DTG have only added achievements/trophies as an afterthought once again. Absolutely no imagination whatsoever. I’m absolutely beyond bored of collecting trophies in TSW now and don’t go out of my way to do so anymore.
Now that would be something to aim for, along with a sub set of drive 5K miles in the UK, Europe and USA respectively. However it seems DTG are too afraid to lay down a moderately challenging set of achievements probably frightened of upsetting the casual player base. We have already seen that this year with the Monthly Masteries where the 1000 mile/1600 km challenge in February has not been repeated.l
In all my years of playing TSW I've never received an achievement, trophy, not a single sticker, even though I've walked a thousand miles and driven a hundred times that. It's so unfair. It really eats away at my self worth. What have I done wrong?
Never have done, never will do. Can't enjoy a game if all I look for is achievements that in practice amount to nothing.
I agree to some extent, though I would rather a proper career mode in the game. The monthly masteries can be quite fun, apart from DTG’s penchant for sticking conductor runs or doing collectibles in there, adding a little bit of purpose to the game. Same with Journey mode to some extent, though rather laughable for a game which prides itself on throwing out achievements and medals left, right and centre, you don’t even get a pop up to acknowledge when you complete the Journey on a route!
You can’t even complete some journey mode to gold standard because of the impossible medal thresholds on some tutorials or depot runs. Do have to wonder why tutorials even have medals in the first place? Also, why isn’t there a completed to platinum mark? A completion award for journey mode would give players an incentive to play the mode. A set of three decals for completing the journey and then an extra route poster for gold completion, stuff that actually shows in-game. I think the monthly challenge awards should be changed to a badge that shows on your DTL account rather than a decal, I doubt many people make liveries out of them. As for the core achievement set, it can be completed in just 2-3 hours, if that. You’d think DTG would at least make a set that would keep the achievement hunters of the community working on it over this next year.
There are whole gaming communities focused on collecting achievements & trophies, and by failing to include achievements in DLC going forward DTG WILL lose customers and money - it’s a terrible business decision. I can tell you 100% that there’s a subset of gamers who will literally not buy the product if they can’t chase achievements - visit the True Achievements website or similar for proof of this. However much some people on here look down on this behaviour, ticking off achievements is a badge of honour for these folks and speaks to the competitive side of gaming. It’s no ‘worse’ than obsessing over inaccurate timetables or ‘mistakes’ in trackside details - each to their own. Personally, I hate the route tasks and ‘500 layers’ achievements which have literally nothing to do with driving trains and are dull and time consuming to unlock. I wish DTG would engage with a couple of gamers who collect achievements and can help them put together a more imaginative and engaging achievement list.
So like the 20 people that actually bother with tsw achievements?, cause ain’t no way not train fans are going to pay 60 for base and then 1000s for every achievement
You don’t have a clue how many people bother with TSW achievements. It always amazes me how many people assume that because they’re not interested then nobody is.
For me personally the trophies add considerably to the experience of playing any game, I have spent many an hour trawling through games picking up every last collectable in order to get my platinum. To answer the question of do people really only by DLC for the trophies, I never bought West Cornwall for TSW2 because it didn't have trophies on PlayStation, that route then got trophies for TSW3 so I then bought it. Many people on these forums have commented on not buying DLC that doesn't come with trophies, I would have suffered the empty rails of Frankfurt S-Bahn had their been trophies for it, but won't ever be buying that route. On the roadmap stream Alex answered my question of why no trophies saying that they were too much effort to build, for example it takes of a lot of time to do localisation into different languages. Seriously? How much effort is it really to translate "do 20 services", "do 5 scenarios" for a new route? I used to think DTG were doing their best for this game, but recently it has become abundantly clear that as long as people keep buying substandard content then that's all they will make. We still have horrendous blurry textures on PS5, Frankfurt S-Bahn is still going to be a ghost town in TSW6, there are really small but game breaking bugs throughout the game, and now we aren't even getting the basic trophies for routes! And that's just the word, basic, DTG want to rake in their money but have no intention of delivering even the basic experience expected by many players. But there is an easy solution for us players, I already own 70 routes for TSW and can spend many many hours before I run out of new services to play. I shall be picking up the free version of TSW6 and doing the base trophies, but when it comes to new routes, including those in the standard TSW6 bundle, I have decided to put just as much effort into buying them as DTG have put into delivering the basic features I expect, i.e. zero.
VERY small fractions of people do that, like even huge games every has heard of don't necessarily have massive achievement scenes. If you look at the data for any game notoriously only half often even end up just finishing the main story. the most difficult achievements in a popular game on Steam rarely leave single digit completion percentages, and that's miles above TSW's 0.1% completion rate for most of its low ones. And frankly I wonder how many of those are just cheating in all the achievements to be complete. I will also point out the biggest console gaming platform, the Switch, notably lacks a achievement system, and yet has done better than either of its competing consoles. Like yeah, some people will ignore the game, some people will also ignore the game because they don't model MOW equipment like breakdown cranes or Hi-rail trucks. That doesn't really mean doing those DLC's would actually meaningfully boost TSW's popularity in anyway. Steam engines undeniable got more interest than those, and there's constant debates on how popular those are after all.
Many achievements have a low completion rate because they're very hard, very time-consuming, or just very dull (e.g. 'complete all route tasks'), so citing 'TSW's 0.1% completion rate for most of its low ones' isn't helping your argument. Also, the fact that MS and Sony insist that all games must ship with Achievements/Trophies speaks to the fact that hunting them down is more popular than you give it credit for. Ultimately, there is undoubtedly a meaningful subset of gamers to whom Achievements/Trophies are important, and it's bad for business to ignore them.
