    Dear Dovetail Games Team,

My name is Noah, and I’m a huge fan of Train Sim World 5. First off, thank you for creating such an amazing simulator that lets players experience the world of trains in such a realistic and immersive way.

I wanted to kindly suggest the addition of New York City Subway trains into Train Sim World 5. The NYC Subway is one of the most iconic and historic transit systems in the world, with a wide range of rolling stock from different eras—including classics like the R27s, R16s, and R17s, as well as modern-day trains. Including these in TSW5 would not only give players the chance to explore New York’s underground, elevated, and overground lines, but also introduce rich historical variety and unique driving challenges.

There’s a big community of fans who would love to operate subway trains on famous routes like the A, F, 1, or 7 lines, traveling from deep underground to the elevated tracks of Queens and Brooklyn. The NYC Subway would make a great addition to the game—whether in timetable, scenario, or especially Free Roam Mode.

It would also be amazing to include subway trains from different decades—like the 1930s, 1970s, and 1980s—so players can enjoy both modern and vintage NYC transit experiences.

Thanks again for your hard work on the game, and I hope you’ll consider this idea!

    Sincerely,

    Noah

As above, DTG have stated MTA will not allow any access to the network, particularly underground sections, or the trains for research purposes to replicate in game. Secondary issue now is that DTG appear to have decreed complex sub ground level stations as too difficult to make due to UE4 light baking issues.

Take that up with DTG then, not give attitude to people who are simply restating what the Executive Producer has said. And if you are going to make a counter claim, present your evidence authenticated by the appropriate MTA officer. I wouldn’t put much faith in what the Google AI churn bucket throws out.

That refers to licensing of branding though not detailed replication of train operations which is what the EP clearly stated MTA are not prepared to grant access to or any sort of research in the tunnel sections.

Will note that the MTA covers already licensed operators in the Metro North Railroad and the Long Island Railroad.

But the license may be the individual groups of the MTA, and not the MTA directly, as of course the LIRR has the safety system requirement for their most recent route, but Metro North AFAIK doesn't have that for the upcoming route.

Which means the NYC subway can say no, even though other MTA affiliates say yes.

Not to mention that it was in fact the "AI churn bucket" you mentioned and thus may or may not have any basis in reality.

Precisely! I mean I get how desperate people are to see the NYC Subway in the game. Even living 3500 miles away it’s certainly something I would like to experience (from the safety of my PC chair!). But while it certainly doesn’t hurt to keep the idea alive in the Suggestions forum, that has to be tempered with realistic expectations. Until and if, DTG can get the access and permissions they need, they are simply not going to touch it.

The only currently active subway system that DTG could pursure right now is the MBTA one as they at least have a relation with the MBTA for their commuter stuff, only thing though is the MBTA subway total network is very small with about 68 miles total.

Every other subway system would require new licensing deals with each one, though Chicago (The CTA) did give a license out to a Japan company for their game Railfan in 2006. Though I dont think you can fully count that as a train sim, as it uses video footage for the visuals, and not rendered 3D models.

To be clear, if the MTA didn't allow games to use their equipment or system lines, we wouldn't have the LIRR or Metro-North routes in TS Classic or TSW currently. In my opinion, I believe the lack of new subway content is due to the increasing number of incidents involving kids entering train cabs and stealing equipment. There are videos all over the web demonstrating these incidents.

Indeed. Which, sadly is why LIRR, MN and the forthcoming NJT route are the closest we are going to get to a Subway experience in TSW. As previously stated, it’s not the licensing that’s the issue but security. Though why that would apply any less to the aforementioned operations any less than the Subway is a question only MTA or DTG can really answer.
