    Hi everyone,
After my not-so-successful attempt with the Wherry Lines, I want to start something new. This time, I'm looking at Merseyrail.
But I can't decide which line to go with — Whirral or Northern.
Both look really interesting, so I’d really appreciate your opinion. Which one would you prefer to see and why?
    Thanks for your help!

It looks like the people voted for Wirral:D

I chose that too but I couldn't tell you why because I don't know anything about Myserail... I don't know anything about UK rail in general.

Both seem interesting, especially Northern Line which could be cool for its terminus at Ormskirk, it could have made a route hopping with Blackpool Branches (even if I don't know if it's possible to do this with the PC editor) but I preferred Wirral maybe for the sort of loop (?) in Liverpool

In any case, good luck with this second project, I hope it succeeds. :D

My personal bias is to the Northern, with the majority of my travel to Liverpool for football, so the trip from Central - Sandhills is one I've done enough times.

Operationally I do think the Wirral would probably be for the best, though, plenty of variety but not too long to run.

I think either would be good, the Wirral line has the loop and more underground sections which I would like to see more of in TSW, but the Northern line may have more interesting scenery and opportunity for switching to battery power for the Fazakerley–Headbolt Lane section (if it is set after 2023)

Either way I would be interested and hope the project goes well :D

I voted for the Wirral line, mainly because I have family that live that way so have many memories of going up and down the line between West Kirby, New Brighton & Lime Street. The loop line stations before refurbishment had rubber tiled floors and had a rather distinctive smell!

You have to think about the pros and cons of both routes.

If you choose to do the Northern Line, then it’s only a short ‘underground’ section through Liverpool, whereas with the Wirral Line there’s the Liverpool Loop and the Mersey Tunnel to be built.

Also need to look at what period you intend on basing it on, as service patterns have changed over the years.

Ormskirk services now run to Hunts Cross, when it used to be the Southport services.

Also the Wirral Line services seem to all return to their starting points, when I believe it used to be that Chester & Ellesmere Port and West Kirkby & New Brighton trains used to come from one terminal and return to the other.

Both have a lot of stations which is a lot of work! If you can do either then great! I am looking to bring people into a new studio if you are interested i have made a new forum discussion about it. I have a much smaller route planned but it could be a good way of you getting some practice in?

I've voted for the Northern Line, simply because it's the only stretch of Mersey Rail territory I've travelled on (and gotten a penalty fare having dropped my outbound ticket somewhere at Liverpool Central :()
