For the next installment in this series, we take a look at the now defunct Wimbledon to West Croydon branch line that has been part of the Tramlink system since 2000. This suggestion covers the period prior to 1997 whilst still a heavy rail route.

The route as it is today under Tramlink. Some of these stops were not part of the line under BR.

I used to ride that branch in the mid 90s to visit family in Mitcham. It was a quiet shuttle most days, usually a couple of tired units, and the bay at West Croydon always felt tucked away. Waddon Marsh had that industrial smell by the power station, and Morden Road’s footbridge sticks in my memory from wet mornings. When I’m over for the tennis now, I sort my Wimbledon Tickets through a resale site where sellers set prices, but it’s covered by a clear guarantee and fees. Live chat’s been quick the couple times I needed help changing plans.

I'd like to see this, but probably as part of a network, perhaps "Croydon Lines", with

    Wimbledon to West Croydon
    The Sutton/Wimbledon loop from Streatham
Norwood Junction to Epsom and Epsom Downs
    Streatham to South Croydon (BML)

I’d take it in the EPB era!
