Looking good but there are those of us who lament this route was not set in a more appealing classic era. “Summer Saturdays In The West” with trains running block on block through 100% semaphore signalled territory. Westerns, Warships, early Peaks (45 and 46), a Class 50, Cross Country (as in Swindon Class 120) DMU’s and numerous other diesel locomotives and MU types along the sea wall. Now that would have sent LAMPOIL all the way to 11! By comparison the modern experience is going to be rather sterile particularly if the Cucumbers, true to life, have little or no traction sound audible in the cab. The Voyagers could potentially be a bit louder though the TSC renditions were disappointing in that respect. In some respects the debut of the GWR Cucumbers is wasted on this route, compared to doing Reading to Bristol or Bristol to Swansea, as we won’t be able to run on electric and switch over to diesel (and vv) or take up to maximum 125 MPH. We are also still waiting to find out if sections of the sea wall at Dawlish and Teignmouth can be walked along.
Yep, classic DTG not listening to what 90% of the fans wanted, I much prefer driving a real train like the class 31 over driving a toy or in other words the 802
It could even have given a new home, and a new lease of life, to this piece of abandonware (Is that you and Mrs Vern walking on the seawall looking for a buffet car?).
No, this is what 90% of the fans want. 90% of forum users and fans are two completely different things. I don't disagree that modern isn't all that great (although my ideal era is probably different to yours). However I've spent enough time looking at all of this stuff and in different communities related to train sim, I realised what the general players want.
Free roam on electric routes doesn't provide a power change though, unless you count Southeastern Highspeed where you'll have to switch to diesel to run on the third rail section, but then IETs don't run round there, plus I think the point of the message you were responding to I that the route it comes part of doesn't really showcase the 802s full capabilities, in terms of 125mph running or it's bi-mode abilities
Free roam is pointless. No running to a proper timetable. No AP or even from what I’ve seen adding to the traction and route mileage. Yes you could use scenario editor to do something on ECML or WCML but then it’s just a glorified Railtour, an oddity.
Look more people wanted it old instead of this mockery era route, like the amount of new stuff and service differences would have been amazing compared to husk of the route. and thanks to this disappointment we will never get a older version of this route
Don't get wrong I'm glad we're going to DMU over EMU. But I do agree with the above. I think it would've been so much more interesting to have the diesels on this route. Would've loved some more stuff for the 31 and the 33. Both are great fun to drive and have stood up well!
Agree, no company is deliberately going to leave money on the shelf, if like some on here claim a backdated version would be more popular (and thus greater sales) that is precisely what DTG would have produced. Like many entitled people on forums and online in general, some here are confusing their individual wants with what’s popular amongst the community as a whole.
Fun fact br blue is selling mad well but yet DTG hasn’t bothered with it since tsw 2, if it wasn’t doing well just trains wouldn’t be still making br era routes, DTG only does modern because that’s what their stock holders want and not what the community want, Hell going back on the forums most suggestions for this route were before the current time period, being the hst era or br blue
I would prefer it to be set in an older period but I would like to see your statistics! Even set in the modern period I'm still looking forward to it.
Being the clamour there seems to be, (at least in this forum), I honestly think that they should consider making a Diesel Legends 2.0 DLC for this route
I don't necessarily disagree, but I think the fact that JT routes are some of the best in terms of quality, UK wise, is also a big factor as to why their routes sell so well
90% of fans certainly don't align with your view. This forum is a poor representation of the player base. 50% of players would probably want nothing but German routes considering the data from steam.
Steam is about the same size as the forums so doesn’t exactly help you and the consoles don’t say any numbers sadly or so many debates would have ended by now
Stock holders want modern because it sells the best, is that not obvious? No point going back to forum suggestions, because again, that's just this forum. This forum is made up of like 200 people max, most are not even the average type of TSW player from what I can tell. I am not particularly fond of the 802s, I would much rather earlier HST era, but its pretty clear what the wider community wants more. You just have to look outside of this forum and even places like discord, instead looking towards more public places where the more casual players will be, since they definitely make up the majority of players, especially with it being a game on console. If you check the official TSW social channel comments, Instagram, YouTube ect.. The ratios of people asking for older era content is a lot different compared to here. Also this is 100% not true, considering this is a core route and JT does not make core routes, I feel like that is a given. I mean, it would definitely be better if it was made by JT. Better just doesn't equal to more success in this case.
I know it’s frustrating as everyone on the forums is of a different age group, and we all relate to different time periods on the railway better than others. You said 90% of all TSW players would’ve preferred the Riviera set in earlier time period. Let’s put that to the test I’d like to know too.
I agree that Just Trains might have set this route back to a more engaging era with better rolling stock. And it likely would.have done well in the marketplace because of their reputation for excellence. But DTG is making the safe bet here, as they usually do. It's probably true that most players ( including a plurality of forum members ) prefer modern traction. Toy trains rule. That's been the case really since Rush Hour and will likely continue to dominate DTG's output. I doubt that Focus ( Pullup? ) allow them much latitude to take a chance on anything else. Only 3rd parties can eschew the party line.
How are you measuring the forum size in this case then? Not including tsc et al I hope! Without any actual evidence for your hyperbolic claims it comes across as a lot of misinformed bluster that is detrimental to the genuine feedback given on and off the forums.
I'm happy that is set in modern era because the cucumbers Is one of some trains that i wanted to have in game, i'm not saying that i don't like the BR Blue era, but i'm interested more in modern era
The deluded vocal minority “vintage is more popular than modern” brigade are very noisy. Despite having the same preference for what periods they want in the game I don’t share their delusions about what is actually popular amongst all players. False claims that BR blue sells the most when the people actually selling the content across many years of TSC and TSW say it sells the least is not in any way helpful. Saying it more often won’t make it true either.
I would guess that modern is more popular (a) because people generally like to drive what they know and can actually see now, (b) because the consoles generally attract the younger player and the youngsters are less aware of the past and (c) because the oldies (like me) either look at the past through rose tinted spectacles or are dying off and we are now outnumbered. There now that I have resolved that issue, and upset everyone, I'll go and read some other threads It's just a shame we can't have both old and new in one package. Now that would be great
Deluded? Oh I think we all know ( well, all but one of us ) that DTG is playing to the gallery and that the rest of us are fighting a lost cause. I think what irritates us most is that DTG doesn't have the temerity to give us both old and new.
Hey, thank you all for providing all this insight! I know you may have different opinions, so just remember to keep it respectful.
