A Tale Of Two Ancient Routes

    Recently I've been in a sort of retro mode, and I decided to make an RW/TSC install that utilized the original routes produced for the sim. Included in that group were two of Kuju's US routes: Cajon Pass and the fictional Castlerock Railroad. My guiding philosophy in this install was to upgrade these routes (and their UK brethren as well) to give them a more current "feel" without changing anything operational. So no added track to conform to current practice; these routes are meant to reflect the originator's time period.

    At minimum I wanted to add prototypical liveries to cars and locos; there are a lot of repaints available on literally dozens of sites and you can see a few in the screenshots I've included below. I also wanted to upgrade the scenics with the AP TrackEP and the AP WeatherEP.

    Though both of these routes utilized the "templateroutes" system that was later dropped, it was a relatively straightforward process to add the above mods. Cajon Pass came out precisely as I wanted; see the pic below:

    In this screenshot the track is AP's Concrete1, and the trackbed is the corresponding AP Trackbed.TgPcDx. This produced a nice well-weathered track and trackbed. AP's RW_Cloudy gave the weather a nice semi-cloudy affect.

    The next shot is from the Castlerock route, and here I ran into a stumbling block:

    I tried for the same effect here, but only the track followed suit; the gravel trackbed, no matter what I did, would simply not change to the rusty brown look of the Concrete1 textures.

    It's worth noting that these two routes utilize a couple of very similar texturing files located in Assets\Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\Environment\Terrain. Cajon Pass uses the one named Texturing.bin and Castlerock uses the one named CR_Texturing.bin. Curiously *both* of them specify the same file for the trackbed texture:

    <BaseTextureName d:type="cDeltaString">Kuju\RailSimulatorUS\Environment\Terrain\Banks\GravelTrackBed000</BaseTextureName>

    So they should both point to the same texture that I had updated with the AP texture. It works just fine on Cajon Pass as you can see, but not so nice on Castlerock. I've searched in CR's file structure for a corresponding file that looks like the pink-and-grey mess you see in the above photo, but to no avail.

    So I went into the editor, but was unable to find how it could locate the textures using on the basic mesh. Can anyone offer suggestions as to where this might be?

    On the Castlerock route the same texture between the tracks is seen all across the car park.

    I think if you changed the texture you would also change everywhere else it appears on the Castlerock route

    Right you were, 749006, once I exchanged the AP texture for no less than 8 different "WasteLand000_X (where X was A through H) then the ballast all became the same, to use the original German nomenclature - "rostbraun". I've no idea why the designers of Castlerock thought that "WasteLand" was an appropriate texture to use for ballast, especially because they did have various gravel textures that were included with the route, but it is what it is. Or was :)

    The unfortunate upside of this is that now a number of parking lots on the route went from being paved with concrete to being, well, "rostbraun" dirt! I'm sure the locals would not appreciate that, so I have to learn how to use the editor and replace the parking lots that were concrete with some tarmac.
