I operated one train on the Riviera Line, and the noise that had been occurring several times on the loading screen and in other places was no longer there.
It no longer makes noise even when it used to make noise while driving.

I downloaded the free starter pack and a few routes to try it out, and so far I haven't noticed any audio glitches.

Thanks DTG Matt for getting the audio issue on PS5 sorted for release day.

I’m not so sure this is totally fixed. It’s definitely massively improved, but I still have noticeable pops and crackle on the Riviera line. No such issues with older routes, have tried deleting and reinstalling etc.

Unfortunately yes, audio popping issues still present on the Riviera Line. Was planning on spending a couple of hours last night on driving a couple scenarios but the popping made it unplayable and I just turned it off. Not checked on any other route yet.

I think they are just the normal ‘bad looping’ pops that sometimes happen with looped audio after the sound compression for the PS5 build. They won’t show up on PC builds. They are sometimes fixed in patches if DTG find out about them so it’s worth reporting each one you encounter as it’s unlikely anyone at DTG will notice them. The running or engine sounds (hard to tell which it is) of the 802 definitely have these looping pops, most noticeable at lower speeds but always there, every 15 seconds or so (which points to a sound that loops every 15 seconds).

Thanks - that makes sense; it’s only the 802 and most noticeable leaving Plymouth up the various hills. I’ll put in a ticket. Thanks again.

If this is happening because of something in the base game, I wonder if it's something that can be fixed? Is it necessary to do the compression at all?
There are several trains in tsw that work perfectly apart from this sound issue. I would really like it to be fixed for good.

It’s in the conversion to the system PS uses for audio. I don’t have a full understanding of it but I am going off what has been said in live streams over the years whenever this has been discussed and what the devs doing the sound setup on the locos have said in the forum. The devs doing the setup for the audio on the locos get the looped sounds working well on PC but when the console build is made, which is an automated process, the sound files are altered slightly so the loop points aren’t the same which causes the issues.

I don’t know how much it’s been looked into by DTG as to potentially fixing this and stopping it from happening. I think it can be fixed but it is more likely that each train just needs to be set up manually for PS after the sound compression has happened. The actual devs doing the sound setup (sometimes not even DTG employees but outside dev partners) have no access to the console build or dev kits to do it themselves and it would require manual setup after each slight tweak those devs make to the audio in the PC version. I get the impression that happens now to fix issues but only gets done when there are not going to be any more alterations to the looped sounds by the original devs.
