Yes, most users may think so, but as long as these users do not vote, nothing will ever change.

If we want change, then we can cast our votes. And perhaps DTG will then take action.

But without votes, you will never change anything.

He said he hasn't seen any signs the annual release brings in new players. I simply asked how he knows that.

Absent any hard data then, the fact that they're repeating the annual renumbering suggests that it's working. Businesses don't usually keep flogging a dead horse if something isn't profitable. The annual relaunch is not something they do for a laugh, it will require a lot of time and marketing spend, plus the pressure to get content ready for a high profile launch. You can put a single release back a few weeks, no-one will complain, but the annual relaunch is an immovable object once DTG announce it.

So in conclusion, based on observing the behaviour of a business doing what businesses do, I'd say it does expand the "reach" of the product and is a profitable endeavour.

Weird how the same couple of people drag this old donkey out every year to see if it will eat more..... Surely the same people don't pester their local supermarket every time they change the packaging on their favourite breakfast cereal.?

The yearly game renewal is a commercial business decision. Live with it.

 

But, playing devils advocate, if the action you want brings in less revenue, DTG will not be able to develop the game as quickly. Surely that's a bad outcome, that no one would want.

 

You assume that the only way for DTG to make money off annual releases is expanding the playerbase!

I’ve mentioned in a previous thread that this iteration is really TSW 5.5 not 6. The reason why DTG keep on rolling with a new version number every year is marketing. Pure and simple. Nobody wants half of anything in reality….

 

The download is work, clearing space and checking content.
Caltrain this year, GWR next? Or UP? Or both?
It's difficult to remain loyal when your collection gets eroded.
I don't think the newbies will outnumber us.
The company seem to like the quick buck strategy, pointing to an uncertain future.

 

Personally, i have mixed feelings about yearly releases.
(since I have FTTH, only wasting 2 hours downloading everything) I don't mind them. BUT the whole Re-downloading is still a pain in the bottom for other players.
Also, i mostly fear problems with content not importing/ not available for some time to newer iteration(s) just like the Epic Games problem we have/had right now. Maybe next year will be Playstation, Xbox, or even Steam.
Also, the yearly release brings more money because of publicity / new players getting the game.
But a model like: TSW 2025(2026 and so on) & updating the core (just like TSC) would be amazing.

 

As l live in the country my internet is very slow, takes about an hour to download 4gb, on an ethernet cable connection. Which is faster than normal. This year l took my computer to a hotel in a large town and got about 10 gb an hour.

l have decided to only transfer a few items into TSW6 and keep the rest on TSW5. My collection is pretty huge as l have everything apart from the expert br101. It such a chore for me to download all my content and we don’t have to do this on TSC, so l don’t understand why DTG cannot issue their releases for TSW in the same way as TSC.

 

4GB an hour? My god. No wonder you hate annual TSW releases. I would too.

 

I get to play a new route about three hours after release that’s why l am anxious to find the link. Locomotives l only have to wait about ten minutes ir so.
