Sorry if it’s already been mentioned but a route I would like to see would be Peterborough to Cambridge. With Whittlesey, March and Manea being the stations served. Could use the already existing XC 170’s to do the full route. The EMT 158 to do the Peterborough to Ely part of the route. Then having a Greater Anglia 755 as the ‘new addition’ and using that on the Peterborough to Ely section and also the Ely to Cambridge section (Norwich to Cambridge services) also could drive class 66’s on intermodal between Ely and Peterborough and maybe have Whitemoor yard near March to do freight runs too. Also could use the existing 700’s and greater Anglia 720 reskins as AI at Cambridge.
I would find this route a little blan personally; with 1tph in each direction, bus stop services, and only 1 train (which already exists in game) to serve the route, plus each end to end run taking 1 hour, I can't really see any optimisation for a route like this - and there isn't much to look out for. The layers are only there if you own the relevant routes, and it could add route-hopping options at Peterborough, but that's about it really. Maybe if it went from the latter station to Birmingham, or if the route were to serve stansted airport, It probably would be more interesting. All thoughts are mine!
I’m being a little bias as used to travel the route quite a bit but yeah I can see why you think that!
I think the lines to Kings Lynn and Peterborough from Cambridge could be done in one DLC, Though I would concur with the other comment that the service pattern isn't too exciting, nor is the scenery in that part of East Anglia. I'm sure it's a very nice area to visit, just a bit too flat for my liking. At least with the Wherry Lines there's some quaint features, nice rivers and even a few gentle gradients.
Having lived on the wherry lines I do agree it’s probably nicer on the eye just the service pattern again wouldn’t be too exciting nor is there any freight
