Hi guys, just a small question here, just started a route in the 802 and noticed when coming into a station I saw on the track monitor a speed limit marker which was boxed and the box was highlighted yellow, what does that mean compared to a normal speed limit marker?

It’s the new TSR (Temporary Speed Restriction) feature.

Could be for a variety of reasons, generally condition of track, or track which has been renewed but bedding in. Sometimes if there are issues with sighting at a foot or level crossing. However the purpose in TSW is entirely random and non specific. Note in the real world you would normally get an AWS magnet at the warning (advance) board but DTG have omitted this rather vital feature so you need to watch the HUD closely. The HUD shows the commencement location and the advance board would be some distance in rear. In the real world that is very precisely calculated based on the route character and train braking characteristics, but doubt that is reflected in TSW!

TSR means temporary speed restriction... And is used for shorter periods for a default track or all other faults than can happen on a track to bring in a TSR. You need to follow this sign the same as a normal speed reduction but its only for short time there and in game they are completely random placed on the route

The boxed speed limit is the temporary speed restriction that shows in the track monitor

Just like Vern said, track condition is a very common cause for them. In The Netherlands we have an awful lot of them for reduced track stability. Here it often is something related to the soil beneath the tracks. Sometimes due to the type of soil itself, sometimes the rain, and sometimes because animals such as badgers have dug tunnels under the tracks. Yes, that is a very big problem here. Or you can have structurally weak bridges (looking at you HSL-Zuid, our infamous (not so) high speed line). And all those restrictions can last for months or even years.

I agree they are not very well implemented in TSW at the moment. Maybe I’m blind but especially on Dresden-Leipzig I never see the announcement signs.

An external or internal defect can be detected on a railway track. Usually, a temporary speed limit is imposed at this location. In the Czech Republic, we have this measuring car for detecting defects on tracks.
