I may be overthinking this, but with the introduction of the Class 171 & 377/3, perhaps the dream of having an East Coastway remaster/extension to Hastings or Ashford might be on the cards in the not too distant future.
I suspect not sadly. It's not a Rivet route and I doubt DTG will do it for them, same with the TSG 218 and Hamburg to Lubeck. I would love to see ECW updated but I don't think the lighting seems as bad on it as some of the other routes of the period.
I took it to mean that the AI will be added at Brighton on ECW, not that the AI will be added to Brighton Main Line.
They abandoned Brighton Mainline for so called "preformance issues" a long time ago, I doubt they will ever touch it without any rework involved.
Sadly it looks like East Coastway will still have the old lighting, which is a shame as I think the newer system could make it look really good. Funnily enough BML is one of the best performing routes for me.
Same here it’s only Brighton and London Victoria which is FPS heavy which is understandable but part from that it’s fine.
Well this has already happened when Rivet released a newer version of Isle of Wight with class 484 and back then it was £14.99. If they sell these as a pack together with the extension it could cost the same , probably more.
This is in the roadmap article: "Currently, Rivet Games are also investigating any further changes to the East Coastway route alongside this pack, and we'll keep you updated once we can confirm and share more news." I'm wondering if it's a lighting upgrade.
I think Matt did say they are looking into what they can do with East Coastway. Wait to hear back from DTG or Matt before getting your hopes up, but they are at least looking into it, so fingers crossed.
Actually did a run on it last night. Did enjoy it but the morning sky and overall lighting looked terrible, not to mention the way random buildings are just plonked on flat ground with little to no texturing throughout. I can’t help but hope for a remaster and even better an extension up to Ashford. Dor a time I grew up on the Romney marshes so that would be a dream come true.
Matt said East Coastway was an old route now and it uses TOD 2 lighting not even TOD 3. I think DTG are looking into what tricks they can use on it, anyway they can improve it, but from what Matt says, it takes about a month to upgrade the lighting on a route. So the fact it is an older route, would it take even longer for DTG to do it and who pays bill? An extension would be class, but DTG would have to rebuild the whole route in order to add a bit onto it, asking the player base to pay twice for a route may not work.
IMO the older 377 should have updated sounds, PIS, GSMR, better rain effects, suspension and announcements as a minimum.
I would think they would not just upgrade the lighting to TOD4 and do the scenery as well with more foliage and the usual scenery upgrades we get.
Same here and hopefully they will update the sounds on the ECW 377 as promised when the London - Brighton route came out. Edit: Which was 3 years ago……
If this DTG's feeling, i think they should be pushing back a little on third-parties releasing content for ancient routes unless that 3rd-party or DTG are willing to fund upgrading them to current standards for lighting/sound reverb/etc. We've already seen it before with the BR218 and Hamburg-Lubeck- the loco itself is great, but as a customer it annoys me that the "main" route for it, with the bulk of timetable services, is quite outdated. I think it's just a little sketchy, especially for newer players who don't necessarily know that or why ECW (for example) wouldn't be up to the same standard as the loco DLC that is currently be released for it.
I feel if they don't do it now they won't do it ever. It'd be a great shame, especially since /3 sometimes couples up to the /4 to make 7 and 10 car trains.
That’s very true, maybe they might update the ECW 377 when the pack comes out or if they do an upgrade for ECW might be along side that.
cant the route be remaster? Or would due to when it was made, its impossible to remaster or even extend? To be honest if they were to extend, I think they would go as far as Ore or something. Obviously extending all the way to Ashford would be awesome so we can drive the full Class 171 run. Though to be honest this we Rivet we are talking about and this is only the train packs... i am really worried about how many bugs they arent going to fix... and a very desired 377 variant which is much needed in TSW is concern if bugs were to affect it heavily
Eastcoast Way and London to Brighton both need a remake then a remaster So they can both merge and be extended to Ashford and London Bridge
I think you both are underestimating how much effort would have to go into remastering or remaking the route. Liam's been at the GWE remaster for well over a year at this point. As people already pointed out, even a "simple" upgrade to the lighting would take around a month, although they have said they're looking at options to improve the route
Yes but I think it’s fair to say some would be happy to pay if we had it remade with an extension through Hasting and the Romney Marsh to Ashford to get the most out of this new DMU.
Me too, but not everyone thinks like that and it is also down to choice as some people might not like the route or UK routes. Others feel they have already paid out and it is down to DTG to remaster it for free and then you have players who want something new and shiney. But like GWE, East Coastway was like one of the originals for TSW and a lot of people have fond memories of spending hours playing it. Oh hell, I completed the 377 timetable years ago and I looked in on it recently to find most of my progress had disappeared, so I either raise a ticket with DTG and throw my toys out of the pram or play East Coastway again? DTG have heard a peep from me and I am happily back in my 377. The only thing that stands out that really needs updating is the lighting, it has that hazy look to it. A remaster would be nice (when is Liam finished with GWE?) I am joking, Liam has gone way above and beyond with GWE, it is going to be epic!!! I have a feeling that DTG will try to do something with East Coastway, yes Rivet have created a new pack for East Coastway, DTG will probably get a bit of kick back from the sales of the new add on, but I am guessing it is no where near enough to cover the costs of a remaster, so again who pays? It might be an idea to think of something that DTG could add to East Coastway, that wouldn't take them long in man hours to make, then sell that and it helps pay for the remastered version? Add train and platform announcements or something? Maybe dispatcher or do preorder sales on a promise of a remaster? Any ideas?
I'm actually not too fussed about an extension tbh. I enjoyed the route and the run down to Eastbourne felt about right for me personally. Would love to see it get some love and a touch up in places though. It's my most local route where I lived at home (on West coast way). Loved going back to it with the 313 and will definitely enjoy it now with a busier timetable! Would love to see some newer rail tour and other layers added in like the RHTT! Will just be nice to run the route with something that isn't a Electrostar! I don't mind them but for some reason on Xbox the Electrostar soundset is awful. The AWS and Horn distorts all over the place. Which doesn't happen on any other new units I've found so far. So it can't be an Xbox issue.
Route Upgrades (est) Lighting upgrade = takes about a month Announcements = severals weeks Remaster = 3-6 months, 1 to 2 year depends Extension = 1 to 2 years (Same as New route) These are just estimates going from what I have heard on live streams with DTG. So, if you roughly convert the above to what man hours are required to do each of the above tasks. DTG is a business and they need an income to keep the lights on, if DTG get tied up doing any of the above, there is a cost to it, a cost in resources being tied up and a cost of lose of revenue from working on a route that has already being paid for.
East Coastway really needs an extension to Ore or preferably Ashford, but it's not likely to happen. A new timetable is nice, but I still have big concerns with the pack. The new timetable is set before COVID, which is right near the end of the Brighton to Ashford service. The pack won't come with the 3-coach 171s or the ex-ScotRail ones which limits its use. And I don't know for sure if they've taken into account the interior differences between the 171/7s and /8s. And with the Class 377/3, they haven't included any other variants. We only have the /4, with the 377/2 being completely inaccurate. More variants of the 377 (done well) would be massively appreciated
Hopefully we will get more packs like this for the other tsw 2 routes, will kill for one of the 3 1980s routes to get one
Now that I think about it, it’s the perfect interior for a /5. If DTG really wanted to prove themselves, they could have made a Southeastern reskin themselves and layer it onto SEHS.
Are there any differences between a /2 and /4 interior besides the /2s lacking the door between first and standard class? Anyhow, the /2 for some reason re-used the transformer buzz from the class 385, despite them having the right sound for it on the 387 (although it was WAY too quiet). They also made the sound project from the pantograph when it should be at its loudest in the underfloor equipment. On top of that, it can also be heard on DC mode which it shouldn't.
It looks ok to me... I think. No gangway doors to first class, circles above the seats for you to hold on to, the slightly different moquette. I can't think of much else that is different. Unless I have the wrong idea... I had to use Google images so the references may not be right.
i dont think a merge would ever happen- as its too long. Though I would like to have respectively. Brighton Mainline to add Hove station and Norwood Junction station ECW to have some sort of extension either to ore or preferably ashford international. for others, incase yall want references of /2 and /3. I can try take pictures of it as my local station is full of them.
If DTG couldn't be bothered to update the Bakerloo line stations for WCML South, making the "working lifts at stations" key feature of TSW5 completely pointless, I wouldn't start expecting a London - Brighton remaster. If newer core routes are getting neglected, legacy routes are dead and buried at this point.
They did make some changes, but it's still a pretty poor imitation and is closer to the /4. The seats in the screenshot you sent are the first class seats from the /4s and /5s, which are different to the standard class seats used in first in the /1-3s. Note the different armrests and slightly taller build. I couldn't find a walkthough video where I could confirm the interior shown is a 377/2, but their interior is practically identical to the final batch of 377/1s.
i am not aware of those stations, are those stations somewhere in the game route already but is not accessible/not modeled in? its not expected as much, might as well go back to TSC and have more fun there cuz theres the sussex lines (absolutely legend of a route being made still). One problem there is Gatwick Airport isnt updated there so...
Reedham is modelled but not accessible - it's parallel to the mainlines, after the branch from Purley leaves, then dives under and appears on the other side. Coulsdon Town is just after the same line peels off to the west.
