I’m sharing one of many liveries I’m currently working on as it’s being created with sight and colour blindness in mind. This is off the back of a recent chat with a forum member. Topics such as Decals and how they represent those many UK signs are aimed at. Be a disability or again any visual impairment. In design or work I like to do is taken seriously, I’ve done this by reading from many sources, yet haven’t truly fully explored or even studied to the extent I am with this work. Ie implementing many factors even laws and regulatory requirements. A lot and still getting my head around some. So today I’m asking for a little help from those that are more experienced than me to pass comment in regards to signs/ visual representation. Ie colours used for example. What is or is the best way to represent and cater for the needs of those that use the UK train system?. Access, Correct signs or terminology. Visual/ Hearing requirements. (Colour blindness is the main focus). The UK has a lot in place to do with building codes or regulations in place for trains designed specifically for the UK. My question is are they correct or fit for use in today’s world?. Visually speaking. Here’s what I’m playing around with. I believe the use of Purple and Orange are a colour combination fit for the use in improving day to day lives. Decals or signs I’m waiting on information about. So for now is this a right direction?. A very tricky question indeed to answer. Depends on the colour blindness. If they can’t see red or green, maybe the purple and orange might work? But if they can’t only see in black and white, I don’t believe it would matter. In short, depends on the colours the person can’t see.
Thanks Tom. I’ve just been reading up and it’s really interesting yet I can see why those with this defect get frustrated. And that’s all it’s classed as a colour deficiency NOT a Disability. Again been reading up on many forms of colour blindness or complete colour blindness. The rare one that I’m not going to attempt to spell. The effects of either deficiency are very hard to life with. I was thinking about how hard it would be and I did start getting confused about it. My head wouldn’t have it, so yes this is very very hard to grasp. Ie the 7 types of colour blindness. It hard to think of one colour in case that clashes with another. So here’s my updated version for now taking the most rarest form in to consideration. Complete colour blindness. Okay a little update for old work I thought I’d had a separate thread for. Anyway. I’ve given five class 801/2 a little refresh not much. Set 801 207 “WARRIOR’ had a larger upgrade to bring it in line with his running mates. Made back in 2023 it did have a few issues so all those have now been rectified. On the hand style writing I wanted to bring the decals used down so this time the logo is more to the original style and by doing that has brought the numbers down to roughly 15 to 25 depending on the letter where I’d be looking at 40 to 50 upwards on the work seen below. And that’s that for now folks. Been a busy week so think I’ll enjoy this day of rest, as I hope are too ✌
I’ve recently placed a class 43 on CC numbed 43 028. And as I was putting it together my mind wondering as it does I thought to myself those guys that did this unauthorised paint job was on to something. So had a play and created this as a running mate for 43 029. Sadly this unit beens scrapped. It can live on in TSW with a fancy new paint job to set it apart from the crowd, What do you think?. I’m pretty happy with them yet they are still WIP ✌
And now for something with a little less colour than the ones released earlier today. 43 075 with 43 074 awaiting some weathering work. Original set 254 010 mid 1982 and do have formation information available if anyone is interested in that. ✌.
This is a little message to either DTG staff/ mods or the main man Himself DTG Matt as without saying to much information on what I’m about to share is that communication with DTG Matt had taken place before hand. Theme. Team DTG and creating a livery for DTG Matt and His team. Christmas was approaching and so the idea involved. The Xmas Team DTG livery. A lot of work and well it didn’t for some reason turn out as planned. Why I wouldn’t know as all communication failed. Work was blanked which lead to me leaving the game for some time. The past. Now the livery seen or theme of UKTSN was the Xmas edition and I also made the standard but sadly due to blanking or blocking me from working on that livery I feel after nearly 2 Years now I wonder if it possible to be able with DTG Matt or Staff permission upload as seen. Standard theme edition that was designed for DTG and DTG Matt. If any member does see this message then you have my full permission to DM if open communication is not the right way to do this. I’m more than willing to make the necessary adjustments on anything you DTG or DTG Matt feel is not necessary or un appropriate to any names. Any cartoon references has all been removed from this standard edition. Again if anyone can clarify what is okay or not then please let me know as I did gain permission from the appropriate members prior to any work commencing, yet would like to gain some clarity going forward regarding this long issue that even today am still unsure what happened. Okay being one that is unable to keep his nose clean I’ve took it upon myself to create what I am about to share with you. I would like a DTG staff member to SEE the nature of the work as it relates to the late Chris Edward’s. With the release of TSW6 and a number of streaming events on I know time is tight so please, to any DTG staff member that sees this can act accordingly or own time without me going around the houses when everyone is busy. The reason I do is as I say the mention of a past DTG member and so fully aware of how sensitive approaching such a deep personal matter is for those close. And why have I bothered anyway. Well I can’t get to my old emails but I am sure Chris helped me when I was finding things a bit hard. Again if I manage to speak to anyone mainly DTG Matt. As He will know as it was around the time the Team DTG project and livery came from. He is where I said I’d make him a special livery on the class 700 and was working on that still not long ago. I placed it on hold for the models had layer issues. This is providing it’s the correct person and if that could be confirmed. If not then reading up on the article placed out by DTG Jan the news moved me. The part where Chris didn’t get to enjoy the seeing the release of TSW6. So based on either outcome from on what I’ve written above this is what I’ve created to make Chris part of TSW6 by placing a small mark of honour. The photos will do the talking now. I do not want to abuse anyone’s good nature and I know I must treat the theme work and situation with the uppermost respect for Chris friends and family. Therefore I will NOT release this work until I have been given authorisation by DTG staff or key DTG members. I will remove what is necessary and replace to just a TSW6 theme livery using 220 006. Haven't been here in a while, but currently more active on Discord, always a nice chat there. I really wanted to show off my BR294 from DB Cargo in a very rugged weathered look. Most of the paint and varnish has discolored from the sun, and the stickers are starting to chip. The locomotive hasn't been through a wash for quite some time, and a lot of track dust has accumulated on the hood.
Why hello you. Thought you might have been busy, and I might join you one day on discord. Bit shy I am as apparently I’ve got a good voice for radio according to my old friend back in the states. And with the work your doing a can see where your getting inspiration from Looks good tho mate. I do prefer weathered version, yet depending on the basic livery decal count it isn’t always possible to go to town on weathering. I’m trying to keep this class 43 in a used look, while keeping the main livery as it should due to working backwards on this one. The text next which will also be demanding on the decal front. But with around 300 decals used for adding a used look with redundancy built in for if happen I to run short. It’s Ruddy good fun tho Tat tar for now. Oh and DM if anything mentioned you know where, is it something you guys would like still?. I’m easy either way, free to be me Anyway take it easy man. ✌.
Been busy down at the TSLP paints shops but it’s been worth the time creating the four units that are 43 012, 43 126, 43 148 and lastly 43 192. All dressed up in the Bristol 2015 European Green Capital, each with their different style front end. Unfortunately due to high decal demand I wasn’t able to complete the font to the original style seen on the real world versions It still works tho and gives the same feel as the real deal. Hey my friend, yes, it's been quite busy the last few days, but it would be great if you joined us on Discord. Don't be shy, because we're just typing and chatting. We're really missing a UK collaborator, and I think your work definitely deserves that spot. At least if you want to create realistic UK rail liveries for the roadmap. Besides that, you can still create whatever you want and do whatever you want. I have to keep it short, my friend, and this art is truly breathtakingly well done! It's truly crazy, and that's something I wouldn't dare to create, to be honest, even though I have unlimited layers, so I'm very impressed, just like many other liveries you've created.
Man you can say that again, I thought I’d have more time to chill and in some ways have been, hence why I feel the work has improved recently. Why the urgency you may ask, well my addiction and OCD to getting things done out the way. One long production line of wanting to see my own little model collection as I call bigger and better. These for example. Completely model spec so a set. The Two 43s is to the left my old one made by hand on TSW4, before the added outline decal font in TSW5. Some colour test and then the weathered HST 40 Year plate. A lot of CNC work lol. And thanks buddy, it wasn’t as bad as I originally thought to be fair, I quite enjoyed it and like I say relaxed a little more. I think that’s my main concern and thought for you as a creator too. Feeling like we have to provide or produce content like a job. Something one of two have said about me in the past, treating CC or TSW like it’s work. Why I said about not wanting any limelight or go mixing it with the big leagues, I kind feel I’m no longer free if that makes sense. I think we’ve had a similar conversation about feeling we do out of necessity rather than entertainment. Yet YT is enjoying so I see why you have taken that option. Okay boss. Let me just get work backed up and I’ll be with you. Been wanting to do this for so long. Long story but I never said about its original design to a friend I adjusted it for. He drove the set seen for LNER. So trying to remember the original NIGHTSTAR design with GBR branding and NIGHTSTAR if it was to be rebranded or back. A What if say. Yet the project was real with 139 coaches being made (MK4s) but was sold to the Canadian rail operator VIA after the project was cancelled due to competition from other local companies like EUROSTAR and cheap flight operators in 1999 after being on hold since 97 I think. The UK is now looking into such services again so I thought I’d let a class 43 take the lead for now while new stock is on order And just want to apolozies for my tone, or what I felt was some form of lecture. I let ya know mate in DM. Until then tho you take it easy man Oh and if you want to look into the European side of Nightstar you will see SNCF and other countries like Belgium supplied diesel and electric traction to continue to Paris etc. Might be a change from freight trains if looking for new ideas. ✌.
