Debatable, as we've seen over on TSC DTG were more open to release routes or locos DLCs without the proper branding. No Metrolink, No Coaster, No Tri Rail, no MARC (Not counting Metra as it was a 3rd party route) but it depends on if the entire route would be unbranded, or if certain operators on a route would be. (IE no SEPTA on the NEC, but Amtrak would still be present.) For example, I feel like DTG should use more unbranded US freight locos, or branded as DTGX to stand in for leasers on routes where a shortline or industrial operator is in play, insead of using existing class 1's, or just not using any locos at all (Looking at you Cajon Pass) So I would take completely branded, or partially branded, over no branding. EDIT: This is based on US carriers only, an exception to the rule i would make would be like Japan, where licensing seems hard or impossible to get.
If they can’t get the license at that point maybe take the time to do a route they can get one for instead first. lots of licenses lots of routes to choose.
I think it also depends were the route is set, for example in the us they have a fair few licences and there is alternative choices if they can't get want they want but in australia they have none and have had no luck as of yet.
Whilst I'd always prefer stuff to be branded, I don't think they shouldn't make an add-on if they can't get a license.
It’s a bit of a grey area. No licence does not necessarily mean no route as we have seen with Caltrain debranding or the ongoing LNW stuff for the UK. Conversely, having the licence doesn’t guarantee a route either. Despite having licences for MTA, the operator will not let them anywhere near the NYC Subway system, one of the most requested add ons for the game, due to security concerns. Despite licences being in place for many of the big North American freight railroads, they are also denying access to the trains at least for any further research. You could probably do the route from information in the public domain but could the operator still kick up a fuss, whether branded or unbranded trains are used. Of course, for the UK there is a relatively simple answer. Forget doing routes in the modern era and go back to BR Classic or earlier where there are no or minimal licensing requirements to use liveries and logos.
It depends on who you ask, but to me licences really aren’t too much of a deal. Two of my favourite routes, WCMLS and IOW22 are both missing licensing to some degree but are excellent value for money. I can see why others would be more opposed to routes without licenses, but for me I wouldn’t want a route rendered unachievable because of it
I stopped caring, to be honest. XBOX says I've hit my refund limit this year, so won't be taking a chance on buying anymore DLC for TSW in its current buggy state. Derail Valley, OpenTTD, Snowrunner, Roadcraft and Transport Fever 2 don't have licencing, and it has never really bothered me.
I don't see what the fuss is about and why this keeps being brought up. Even with the logo missing and the colour scheme slightly off, you can see what it is, you know what route it is. Now if dtg release a route with the train just in grey primer, saying you have to paint it yourself in livery designer, it would be a different matter.
Run 8 also don’t seem to have a problem. In fact when this has come up in other discussion areas, some pundits have stated any publicly owned operator (as opposed to private) cannot apply any restrictions to depiction of their livery or logo. Now before anyone flames me I honestly don’t know if that’s true or not and a prudent developer is not going to risk a potential costly lawsuit to test the water, but food for thought.
Depends how it’s done. The way Rivet did IOW22 & DTG did WCMLS is a no from me. AAS on their route handled no licensing pretty well.
Don't think you can do it any different, so I'm stumped. I wouldn't be surprised if this is because it's Rivet, apparently they are a new circle of hell for a chunk of the population in here.......
Since when did Xbox have a refund limit?, and second how large?, just asking so I don’t come close to it
I know when I used an Xbox it was 2 per year (so they said), this was about 2/3 years ago though. It used to be my test method for console DLC’s, as you could refund them painlessly compared to PS. I suspect those are conveniency refund limits though, if somethings faulty they’ll likely still do it. With how bad console quality for TSW has gotten though even Sony has refunded the worst routes for TSW, such as Mildmay & AAS’ release.
I reached the limit a couple of years ago, and to be fair it took quite a lot to reach it- 7 or 8 refunds iirc. You get a yearly limit, but for some reason it doesn’t seem to reset annually. I’d say don’t assume that just a couple of refunds will be the maximum, but also don’t take the piss otherwise you’ll definitely reach the limit
I used to be a staunch advocate of no licence, no route. But in recent times I‘ve seen that it doesn‘t take away from my fun playing the game too much at all. Also, the new Czech route looks amazing and is unbranded, and Liam‘s GWE Remaster (FGW trains) goes without saying. So I have voted yes to no licence if it means we get a great train/route.
Noted, I haven’t actually refunded much mainly because I can’t be bugged dealing with Microsoft and also I tend to stay after from day one releases unless it’s tsg or just trains
Steam do tend to give you a yellow card with a slightly snotty email, if you get a bit closed to the (undefined) limit. Had that a few times, again mainly thanks to DTG though they are not the only house of rot where it comes to software. Easiest way to get the rating back up was to buy a couple of £2 rolling stock packs off Workshop for TSC or a missing ATS map for a tenner. But I do tread more cautiously now which add ons I buy. Previously I might have bought Bham to Crewe on approval and just refunded but not any more. Play the waiting game and don’t let the money burn a hole in the Steam Wallet.
As mostly German route player, I would say yes to unbranded trains if this will mean we finally get other operators and the not branded trains are done well. So firstly, only unbranded when it is otherwise not possible. Secondly, the colors has to be correct, so only no logo. So for example a BR1442, grey with red doors without Albellio logo around Leipzig is fine to me, so is a Stadler Flirt (one from S-bahn Zentralschweiz) in Albellio colors without logo on Ruhr Sieg Nord.
How is DTG's approach any different to AAS? The only difference is that AAS knew in advance that LNR was no dice while DTG were operating with the expectation the license would still be there. The outcome has been the same.
As someone who's in Japan a lot, I'm not sure i'd want the Yamanote line over others. It is just a loop in both directions, and I feel like some of the stations are too close together. One of my favorite lines is the Toyoko line. I would if they would do the route between Shibuya and Yokohama. I think that would be a cool scenic, inner city route
Caveat that i'd always prefer branded where possible, but yes, please, to unbranded routes! I'd love to see my local line (Amtrak Keystone Corridor/SEPTA Paoli-Thorndale line) sometime before i die lol. SEPTA has never played ball with licensing, but we have almost all the necessary equipment already in the game- ACS64 (used by Amtrak and SEPTA), Amtrak Keystone cabcar, bombardier single level coaches for the SEPTA loco-hauled sets. The only brand-new train would be the Silverliner EMU, and an Amtrak P42 for the Pennsylvanian, but that's only twice a day anyways, they could just fake it like they do on other routes where they swap diesel for electric. I'd love to see a 3rd-party take a crack some day, since DTG seemingly have no interest.
i gotta ask do third party have it easier to get licenses from railroad then DTG. or are they in same boat too. also what improvements dose livery designer need to make it so that it ok for dtg to make route with no license if there big big demand for that route.
