Being from the valleys myself. I would love to see the network line expanded seeing that the Rhymney line being advertised on the announcements expecially seeing it at Heath High Level. I would love to see the expansion go all the way upto Rhymney, if not all the way atleast to Caerphilly. Maybe also expanding into other parts of the networks like this. I think also the Rhymney Valley Line would make for a good route is because ofcourse you can be able to view the Caerphilly castle between Caerphilly train station and Churchill Park. Along the line you also got the tunnel that runs between Lisvane and Caerphilly train station. In addition, you can have maybe a small quest maybe involving history or to maybe put up displays of castle signs. Maybe also a quest involving being a passenger or driver, beween Caerphilly train station to Churchil Park involving capturing a photo of the castle along the way and maybe a brief introduction to Caerphilly cheese.
+1 to this. At least one of the full Valley runs needs to be included, probably Rhymney. South to Barry Island then on the other route at least to Pontypridd. And consider adding one of the new Flirt units too.
They could even have the Valleys line network in, I'd love to see more Welsh routes added. Like they could then just have it be the Cardiff and Valleys Network DLC.I think the Cardiff Netwoirk DLC needs more meat on the bones for a route, I think the route is a little short in my view also.
Agree this DLC needs to be expanded, Barry Island is a must and also one of the full valley lines. I suppose you could make a case of any of the valleys but I'd suggest Aberdare and onto Cwmbargoed so we could have some freight on the route. Being the last colliery it would fit with the time setting though we would need some suitable wagons. Just Trains are doing some MGR wagons for Preston - Crewe if you want to backdate it a bit using the Tees Valley 37/5 to stand in for a 37/7. If you were including Barry then a few more miles to Aberthaw yard may not go amiss too so that an end to end freight run could be timetabled.
Don’t want to be a clever LOVEer but isn’t Cwmbargoed a branch off the Rhymney Line at Ystrad Mynach? Nevertheless you are right it would add substantially to the appeal of the route. And yes, Rhymney should also be accompanied by Barry Island and at least Pontypridd on the Treherbert etc. line.
Senior moment sorry - was thinking of the loading pad at Hirwaun (which I can't remember the name of now). Those valleys are too confusing for us coastal types Like you say then Rhymney would be the better option with the loco hauled passengers too. EDIT - Tower colliery was the place I was thinking of Despite living local I've not ridden the whole Cardiff valley network - maybe a day out when the weather improves. Get to see some of the new traction as well.
When you look at the big map it makes you wonder if the time spent building both the Coryton and the Penarth branches would've been better spent going to Caerphilly and Barry Island on the 'main' lines? Overall this route is such a missed opportunity. It could've been really great but, in the end, it was ruined by the decision to give Rivet insufficient time to make it. "Whoever it was that made that decision needs to consider their position" said two shifty looking people.
It's painful to acknowledge the missed opportunities. This route could have been a true masterpiece for TSW. Even worse, there's no hope that the development team will return to the route and improve it.
Lets keep pushing for it, in hopes that the devs will listen and expand on the DLC or maybe change the DLC to the Welsh Valley lines DLC.
