I'll start by apologizing if this is not the right venue for this message. I've been using TSW 3 on console (PS4 and PS5) for a couple of years now, and recently upgraded to a gaming laptop and now have the Steam version on Win11. My interest is North American railroading, and the CRR route is definitely my favorite. My first experience with train simulators was with MSTS about 25 years ago, where I did some content creation (locomotives/rolling stock/route objects). One of my unrealized MSTS dreams was a custom route simulating my hometown in southeastern Ohio in the 1960s. I'm intrigued by the possibilities of route-building with TSW. I understand I need to upgrade to at least TSW 4 to get access to the editing tools. Is that correct? I've been plotting the prototype information into Google Earth: https://earth.google.com/earth/d/1nuFoS534XLYAszLvLpaCh_HfHKZrfYkN?usp=sharing The map isn't completed yet, but this indicates the type of detail I'm envisioning. I'd be happy to meet other content creators in the community who can share experience/wisdom. Cheers! -Cameron
Hi Cameron, welcome to the forums. I think the first thing you should do with your Steam version (you didnt say which version it was of TSW) is upgrade to TSW6 via the free starter pack, that will then bring over (in Steam) any routes you currently have. You have, I think, until the 11th November to grab the TSW6 free upgrade. As for your editor and route building enquiries, I would go to the TSW editor discussion page in these forums, (https://forums.dovetailgames.com/forums/pc-editor-discussion/). There’s also TSC (Train Sim Community) discord with a lot of knowledgeable modders (and now an official Dovetail Discord).
Welcome aboard! It's a fabulous platform, and group (though apparently my messages still require approval, nearly 2 months in...)
Thanks for the tip on TSW6. I was on TSW3 on all my platforms, so I did just update my Steam install. It seems to be more efficient with graphics (I'm getting around 90 fps in TSW6 vs around 60 fps in TSW3), so that's fun! This will probably distract me for awhile before I get into the editors. I suppose I should also dig into a new route or two. Any suggestions for North American railroading routes that require TSW4 and higher (I think I'm mostly familiar with the earlier releases)?
I'm no expert on US routes but the Morristown Line route that is in the TSW6 bundle (and also available as a single route) is pretty good and has all the latest core features: https://live.dovetailgames.com/live...les/article/train-sim-world-6-morristown-line
