Route: Dresden Leipzig TSW6 Is there any known AI that leaves / enters the map via the 'Avoiding' lines at Großenhain, the ones which then feed onto the Radebul to Riesa IC Lines. Online research isnt showing me of any services that run that line as its served by RB31 which rejoins that line just off the top of the map. Surely there are some freight? If I see any myself ill drop it in here
Yep, that's the line to Berlin, it's served by the Hamburg-Berlin-Dresden-Prague EuroCity trains every 2h (these are the 101 services that you can only drive between Dresden Hbf and Dresden-Neustadt). There's also freight towards Berlin, which would be AI. More recently an IC service has been added to increase the EC/EC service to hourly, but I think this is after the period the timetable is set. I thought the IC lines were just linked by the cross line into Riesa. But that info is helpful thank you
When I was out that way in August the CD EC services joined the route at the triangular junction just before Riesa. According to the DB app the IC's today are going via Elsterwelda and so did the last time the EC services ran. Although going back to September they were running the way I went through Jüterborg.
Yeah, there has been a lot of work on the Berlin - Dresden railway, increasing the speed, and reopening the direct route at the Berlin end so that trains don’t need to take a diversion as they approach.
That's good to know thanks. I thought it might be something like that. DB started works on the Berlin-Hamburg high-speed line right before I went, so it was ICE4's only. By direct route is that to avoid the ringbahn? I got some nice photos out the back of the train on the single track between Riesa and Jüterborg on both the Brussels-Prague sleeper and the Comfortjet
Yes, to avoid the outer ring (as opposed to the inner ring, the S-Bahn route). Trains would have to run along the line to Leipzig, then briefly join the ring to head east to the start of the Dresdner Bahn, near Blankenfelde. Main line tracks have now been restored to the line between Südkreuz and Blankenfelde.
AHH interesting. I went around that bit of the outer ring on the sleeper after stopping at Gesundbrunen, did a half loop around Berlin.
Yeah it’s a really interesting route - built largely so that trains from East Germany could avoid West Berlin. The Airport Express does a similar journey to the one you took, but will also be able to run more directly since the opening of this line. I haven’t travelled on a sleeper for ages, I miss it, always such a fun adventure.
Yeah it is quite interesting how only the now Ostbahnhof stayed. The sleepers are great did 4 this summer in 4 completely different coach types.
