    Hi Winzarten

Yes, but if you activate the option shown in the image, announcements about tunnels, stations, etc. will also be displayed, won't they?

Because I only want to see the weather data in TSW, not any other announcements.

Yes. In the current version there is no easy toggle how to have only the weather overlay... I'll add it as an option..

    But this should work:

Setting the Right/Left Margin (based on where it is alligned) to something ridiculous should move the annotation out of the window visible area :-D

I love how much information this mod gives you whilst driving.

I simply could not go without having it installed now, as it seems ‘empty’ and rather lifeless without it.

I also love how it pretty much chooses and does all the weather transitions and settings for you.

    Fantastic work! :)

Weather data isn't loading. The app is reporting error 500.

I have the same error 500 message.

Edit: I see what happened. It is not auto detecting the API key. So you have to copy it from
Documents\My Games\TrainSimWorld6\Saved\Config and paste it in the settings window in the APP.

    Hi everyone,
Error 500 theoretically indicates a problem with the server, which is temporarily unavailable or undergoing maintenance. This can happen quite often, for example during updates, but it's only temporary. By the way, I'm currently playing TSW6 with [TSW route and annotation] and everything is working perfectly!

Hoping you get your connection back very soon.
    Best regards, tof

Just annotations, no details? I just want to know if something's wrong with me, or if the server is down and they'll fix it.

For me it works without issues. Could you please save the .log file and upload it i.e. here? There is a button in the settings

Looks like to be an error with the weather service.. when retreiving some parameters from historic data (i.e. weather code, snow depth), the request fails..
It also happens when you use their website
    https://open-meteo.com/en/docs/historical-weather-api

I would suggest changing the mode to custom year and setting some recent year. There it looks to be working. Should be temporal, as it also crashing on their webside, and it was definitely working previously.

    New version is out :)

First, some info for those that are doing annotations. Having a location (bridge/tunnel), with an empty text is now a valid case. This is becasue it is not feasable to get the correct name for every bridge and tunnel.. but having the information where those things are is beneficial for the weather part of the app. So if the text field is empty, the location will not be shown to the user, but the app can still use the location for the weather stuff.
    upload_2025-11-5_16-52-8.png

The app now reads the sunrise and sunset information from TSW and shows them in the TSW Weather Panel. So finding the correct time for a nice evening run is now easier.. Also, nightime now have different set of icons where appropriate. Neat idea by Train Sim Society
    upload_2025-11-5_16-53-58.png

I was also able to implement the idea OpenMinded had.
Tunnels will now be dry... this works for both annotated and not annotated tunnels. For annoated onse, there is a progression based on distance from entry / exit. For unannotated it is not smoothed, because I can only check if the track section (usually 200m) has a tunnel... This also means that underground stations should be dry, even when rest of the world will be wet..

And annotated bridges will be wetter, making traction more difficult. Once again, it is smoothed based on the distance from start / end points. The ratio of the increase can be changed in options (default is 2x max), where also both of these features can be enabled/disabled separately.

I personally love things like these, because it makes you think a little bit more about the route you're driving.. especially with a heavy train.

It is now also possible to disable just the location information from the overlay.
    upload_2025-11-5_16-59-51.png

And as a small usability improvement. The app should remember it's location and open on that location when is launched. :)

    Hi everyone,
It's incredible to see how this application has ignited the community, as well as its developer and other modders who have also jumped on the bandwagon, exploring its features. I wanted to mention [solicitr] for their superb annotation map for the Rosheim-Salzburg route. It's so precise that it seems perfect for memorizing a route, complete with bridges, detours, highway interchanges, etc. A pure joy!

    annotation _Roseinheim_Salzburg.png

This morning, we upgraded to version 3.6.0.0, whereas on October 20th it was at version 3.3.0.0 (if I remember correctly, and its developer [Winzarten] has been constantly answering questions, listening, and making changes for everyone's benefit whenever requested and when they could be implemented quickly on his own initiative). This demonstrates a very active and truly competent community capable of achieving great things. Let's hope this new API (already available in TSW5) will allow for further improvements, such as enabling CobraOne to use it for their joystick controller application. Now that DTG is showing the same enthusiasm for distributing patches (consoles and PC) as promised for this new TSW game and the first DLC !!!

    Sincerely, tof

PS: Sorry, I didn't notice the page reverting to French.

I have been using the new updated app on KWG, picked a historic weather situation with lots of snow and precipitaton (8th Feb 21, for those that are interested) and started a 1500+ tonne fright run (going from Burgsinn all the way to Kassel).

It was really great fun watching the App do its thing, reducing wettness in tunnels and increasing it on bridges. It had the desired effect, once entering a tunnel I was able to pick up speed on an incline. However, I have noticed that sometimes the loco still starts slipping heaviliy, as if I was driving outside the tunnel, all of a sudden. This was completely unrelated to the App, as I have checked the wettness level and it was all as expected (some smaller tunnels were missed, however, I am assuming this has to do with how those particular tunnels are build). I was not able to really understand why it was doing this. I would be assuming that in about 30-40% of the time in the tunnels it was slipping as if I was outside, the rest was as expected. But the effect from the App was definately there, usually entering the tunnel all of a sudden I was able to accelerate and the slipping stopped.

I will try to investigate a bit further on this. As I have said, it cant have anythung to do with the App itself. Possibly related to the stock I was driving (DB Vectron).

Nevertheless, really enjoyed my first run with this feature:D Once more, many thanks for implementing it!

Actually one more thought on this. Is, what I am seeing on the weather sliders in the App the „command“ to TSW or is this what it „reads“ out of the simulator? I am just wondering if this could also be one of these cases where the wetness gets overwritten by the game, without the App realizing?!

I seem to remember you describing a similar case where the precipitation would not be correctly indicated during snow to rain transition?! I may be way off, here. Again, just a thought where this may come from.

It is what TSW is reporting as it's weather via the DTG API. After the recent move to subscription TSW weather is fetched as part of regular data update (as I can fetch all data in one call), and that's what is always updating in the TSW Weather.

It can be also verified in the log file in AppData\Roaming\TSWMarkPoints\
where each minute the current TSW Weather is logged, also the number of tsw weather api calls.

The previous defect was about the api getting overwhelmed, and the animation stopping. But that should no longer occur.

I will keep an eye out as well. The not annotated tunnles might cause issues, becasue there I rely on the TSW data, where the part of track should be marked as tunnel. But I already noticed that NY Penn, with the access tunnels are not marked.

Tunnels can actually hold a lot of moisture and are frequently quite damp inside which makes the realm of slipping in a tunnel now and then not that far from reality especially in wet conditions as trains still take water in there from outside and transfer it on to the tracks.
    Tunnels are notorious for leaking.
Obviously if its a deep tunnel over prolonged time that chance reduces but for shorter tunnels, slipping is definitely a possibility.

Certainly agree to this, but in TSW it just seems too random. Also, the severity of the slipping is simply too close to what was experienced outside for me to believe it is actually meant to be a feature. Not saying it is not, but I have doubts…

    Fantastic work as always.

Something I've been wondering - is it possible for the application to amend the sky colour, as well as the haze and fog colour? I've always found TSW's TOD 4 sky variation to be quite limited and bland looking, with it lacking those classic vivid sunrises and sunsets, as well as other variations in sky colour. .

It would be nice to see that early morning, cool blue haze, as well as evening, warm yellowish look to the atmosphere.

The way I understand it is that longer tunnels are quite stable and not affected by outside weather that much. Damp tunnels will be damp, dry tunnels will be dry (And those damp tunnels shouldn't be as wet as is open sky ground after prolonged rain.). Yes, trains will drag moisture in, but for a long tunnel this should be fairly localized....for the app, currently, the tunnel needs to be over 600m long to have a piece of dry track on rainy day (so a 1km long tunnel will have 400m of dry track).

One interesting idea is to have the dampness as part of the tunnel annotation... and the app could use it when you're inside the tunnel. Which in the end should mean you get to know the tunnels on your track also by how hard it is to put the power down in them. Some old tunnel on Clinchfield should feal different to a modern tunnel on Kassel - Würzburg.

Thanks :) It cannot do anything else, than moving the same weather sliders as you see when selecting a timetable service. So nope, it cannot change the sky color. But that also means that it is fully compatible with all engine.ini modifications.

Yeah longer tunnels are generally ok, you may still get slip when going in but once in a good distance it should settle and be next to no slip but they are all different.
Had it the other day at work, entered a long tunnel, braked and the speedo dropped to 0 and just slid before gripping and slowing down like nothing had happened so sometimes I quite enjoy the random things in tsw even if they arent meant to happen as thats what can happen out there for real lol.
Aside from that still seems like mine isnt working, tried adding it to the list for windows defender but its not doing much, the test overlay works just not linking with the game for some reason

Right so ive found the issue, ive pinned the exe in the mygames folder to the taskbar so i can start the game from the exe but it seems it doesnt work with that for me, started the game directly from steam and it works, not sure why though?

interestingly, I have noticed that Foobian's God mode allows adjustment of the wind speed but not direction when using your mod. Does this mean that your mod is controlling the wind direction slider (which is greyed out). If so is it possible for your program to control wind speed i Foobian's app?

The wind from the app is just visual from the weather reported it has no effect on what's happening in the game.

Winzarten I have a question for you does the wetness that affects bridges and tunnels work on viaducts also?

My guess would be that the .exe link is missing the -HTTPAPI parameter, thus TSW is ruinning without it's api enabled.

As was mentioned, I cannot control anything wind related.

    Yes, also viaducts are affected.
Also, in the future I would like to have the community provided annotations as part of the app. In a separate tab, where the user could selectively enabled/disable each one. Not that I think anybody would disabled it, but i feel it is a good place for the annotation author name, so those that contributed to the community are credited better than a single patch note mention ;)

    Hello

This app is truly incredible. It brings true live weather without any bugs and crashes and also annotations similar to cab videos that actually let's you learn more about the route, interesting locations, stations, rivers that you would just fly by. Such an amazing litte tool
Could you help me with a question, how do you force an auto update? I am stuck on 0.3.5 I think and I don't recieve the auto update prompt at start anymore (might have chosen never show previously by mistake ). I cannot find an update now option anywhere but there must be one right? Also an option to re enable the prompt for update at start if you have chosen never ask again previously?
Thanks again for this must have app for TSW

    Hi dbrunner#4864

You can uninstall the app and delete everything that remains in the installation folder.

Then simply download the new version of Winzarten from his link.
This will allow you to quickly and easily circumvent the problem.

Newest version is always on the gitlab page here:
    https://gitlab.com/winzarten/tsw-route-annotations/-/releases
You can just download the TSWRouteAnnotations.msi file and run it. No need to uninstall if it is a newer version. :)

That helps. But I wanted to get the automatic check for new version functionality back since I loved the fact that the app can inform you about new versions at start.
It used to work like that until I did something and it stoped. I would reset all settings to default but I cannot find any option for that yet so I might as well do a clean install and how for the best

Oh one other thing, was there a way found for the app to also insert the winds speeds into the Sim? That was the only thing missing out of the full weather experience

I think you can only skip one version, so you should get next version update notification. But I will add a manual 'check for update' button

If you have time to add this little feature or would be great.
Also could you also add something that resets all settings to the initial default state? For example font position, other values that you might change / ruin and you would want them to be back as default?
And another big thank you for making and continuous updating this fantastic little tool.

For weather mapping that's already exists, but I need to add it to the overlay also :)

and, a small update before the weekend.

Fog Progression - Low Visibility fog changes are now limited by your speed. So fog cannot just magically appear during the transition period while you're stationary in a station. You need to drive into it. This can mean that visiblity can get out of synch with the real weather (overlay will still show the in-game situation), but the transition should'n be so jarring. Instant tunnel transitions are not affected ofc.

And, I've added one neat (i think) button. View Online

This will open the open-meteo site with the parameters that were used to query the shown data from its API.
And in the middle of the page you can find this chart, where you can examine what the weather will do over the day

And using the search at top of the page, you can search for other stations on the route, and see what weather you can expect there. :)

    Hi everyone,
Thank you for this very detailed map of the Arosa Line. It could be used for a rail tour service to show tourists the structures, places, and other details of the line and the region!

Best of luck with your future projects!

    Best regards, Tof

This addition keeps amazing me. I was running a Dutch service with an SNG just before sunrise with weather of fully overcast, early morning haze and residual wetness. When you came into stations you could see the lights reflecting off very wet platforms. You just get this without having to do anything. This app has made, for me, TSW much more enjoyable to run.

Absolutely loving the app:love: I've got mine set to historical weather, but I wanted snow. By using the link to the Meteo site, I found a date. December 10th 2017. If you want to drive something UK, you got snow starting at about 6AM and lasting pretty much all day.
