What do people think firefly are up to? Alex said they are currently working on their first route. Leave your thoughts in this thread
I don't know who's on the team. Have they built stuff on TSC before? Though past TSC releases haven't been a useful indicator of what Just Trains and ATS did for TSW. Keeping my fingers crossed that they're all Network South East fans from Essex.
AFAIK Fawx is a producer of quite a fair number of (solid) timetable mods for TSW and Spratty/Jetwash seem to do more on the enhancement side of things. Not familiar with the others' work (sorry guys). All fairly active community members too so I imagine there will be solid enough communication once DTG let them speak. Basically a modders' effort at making a DLC which is something I think the game's been crying out for for a good while - especially with the disparity in quality between modded content and Console and vanilla PC
This brings me hope that we could see an ECW enhancement to go with the 171/377 pack. Dovetail said that Rivet were looking into possibilities in upgrading the route and to be fair, an enhancement to go along with a loco/TT DLC (nice colab if it happens) would make that sell like absolute hot cakes
As speculated in the other thread, part of me wonders and hopes it could be a rework and extension of TVL. The origiginsl should certainly have gone to Bishop Auckland and maybe Boulby as well. If they were doing that plus throw in a Class 56 I would be very happy. More ambitious would be extending the line from Middlesbrough to Whitby even.
yeah, thinking about it more. I dont think these legends have much history of making new assets (routes or stock). However they are utterly light years ahead on making gameplay and route improvements. Im betting their skillset is best used for remastering old but loved routes. Especially for timetables that make full use of the expected standards for PC users ( and soon to arrive next gen consoles). Busy and beautiful will be their standard. Imagine older routes with now 1,200 services a day...
Looking forward to what these guys are going to serve up, always enjoyed their mods/EP's - surprised LondonMidland isn't part of the team, or is he doing other things? Anyway, if they are revisiting and updating old routes, NTP first please...please....please....please All the best with whatever they have planned.
Oh god, could you imagine NTP remastered and by this crew? Im giving chef kisses at the very thought of it.
Imagine an extension to Lime St via Chat Moss on NTP, couple that with JT's Preston-Crewe route which will cover Newton Le Willows we could route hop there and/or Earlestown, bliss! Here's hoping
West Highland 1988, filthy Eastfield 37/4s, full RETB working. Day One!! Getting back to reality As long as it's not modern day, we need a second dev for older stuff. If it's decent reworks of older stuff then that's great also. Please give us another 1st Gen DMU though!!
That’s what I was thinking too since they have experience with modding etc. I wouldn’t say no to a Fife Circle Remaster. Similar to the modded version on PC with much better scenery. That would be amazing.
I would love to see them do a backdated route but much of their work has been on more modern routes, although FAWX has made a timetable for TVL. I wonder therefore if it will be a more modern route. What ever it is I am sure will be of high quality, I would love it to be a period route though.
NTP, TVL and wcl would all be great to be remastered, hell just a new timetable that uses the JT rolling stock
If it's a remaster/extension, TVL would certainly get my vote, though NTP would be good as well, though i'd think it would need even more work done to bring it up to standard.
Something makes me think it will be Wherry. The guy who was making Wherry and posting their progress in the forums stopped and said there will be a payware version coming along soon enough. Could it be these guys? Based on their work ethic, I think Wherry would given the TLC it deserves.
Would be nice if they went back to some of the oldest routes and upgraded them or even extended them, bring them up to date. Especially the old BR blue era ones, introduce new stock like the Pacer to them too.
Have they said they are producing routes or ‘add-on packs’ specifically. My guess is its the former but with their expertise in various elements I’m sure whatever it is will be a stunner!
The paragraphs in the roadmap mentioned things like scenery design, 3D modelling and train set-up so I imagine the first product they'll be producing is a route with at least 1 new train.
Wherry Lines are a good size for a new developer. If it's based in the late 2000s to the late 2010s it would only need a 156 to accompany the 153, 158 (mainly AI), 170s and the Class 37 "Short sets". A 90 is coming for AI at Norwich. Then there were 150/2s during the Anglia Railways era. I think a 156 would be popular for East Midlands and countless other Provincial routes around the North.
I suppose there is Norfolk n chance this will be out by Christmas seriously though hope it’s something Eastern and a fine pedigree of people there on the team. Good luck with what ever it is.
Wherry Lines would be nice, though at this point TBH we are only speculating they are working on a route. It’s more likely a lesser add on to get their feet under the table.
I imagine it will be. Wouldn't make a lot of sense financially to release something just on PC. You'd lose over half the sales.
Anything that gives them a workout. Not too keen on the Wherry lines or Barrow Coast if truth be told as low speed fairly unchallenging runs. Loch Trieg in the Autumn with a fully loaded Speedlink far more an entertaining drive than full power to 60 and shut off on the flat.
Tbh a fantastic route for them would be north wales coast, we had them on the regional runs of course but you'd also see them on Quarry runs to penmaenmawr
I'd love a remaster of the TVL, especially with an extension to Bishop Auckland. Adding in Pacers to sub, and AI traffic at Darlington
That was the one problem with the Wherry Lines in TSC, particularly as I have a feeling the rear loco was also powering. Basically a quick thrash to 60 as you say, then coast to the next station. If they or any other dev did the Wherry Lines, I'd also like to see Cromer and Sheringham included, being a tad more scenic than the lines to Yarmouth and Lowestoft.
The Wherry lines would be a nice network and perfect for the TSW timetable mode. I agree about the Cromer branch being added. I personally would prefer to see it pre-semaphore removal rather than post.
Did a spin on it back when they were running with 37s, one day was enough. Would spend weeks in Scotland behind them. North Wales was better as it was sustained fairly high speed running. Always liked Crewe to Chester for that reason.
Well when the developers of the console (PS4) are phasing out support, it makes perfect sense if game devs do the same.
Looking at the team, I suspect we may indeed be seeing a remaster and timetable update for some of the older routes, which would be very welcome indeed if it turns out to be the case. NTP and TVL have so much potential, it's a crying shame they've been essentially laying abandoned for the past 5+ years. When you go back to them now, even with the various enhancements that are available, they both feel very... dead. Very little traffic, no layers, no passengers on platforms, lighting out of date... Leeds and Manchester Vic on NTP are particularly eerie. Maybe we're miles off the mark, but regardless I'm certain we'll see some very cool stuff from this lot. JB
A thorough remaster of a route can be as good as getting a completely new route. I drove a stopping service on the GWR section between Reading and Paddington yesterday. One HST passed me on the Up fast lines on the way into London. The whole route has so much promise but is dead, the remaster can't come soon enough. Not that I want developers to stop making routes to fill in the big gaps in the UK network, obviously.
