I was thinking about that too, question is, would they still release it on Series consoles. Would be a good marketing stunt if they release the next xbox for an affordable price as the ideal console for GTA. I believe PS6 will be released as early as 2027, so Microsoft will have an advantage, just like it was in the 360 era, however I doubt this is gonna happen.
I honestly think MS have shot their self in the foot, as this new hybrid is only going to attract only a very niche type of people. Casual gamers are no way in their right mind are going to spend over a £1000+ for this new device. I’d rather go and buy an actual Gaming PC with better specs and performance for the same price.
I'm pretty sure they shot their self in the foot. Your point is very valid, for who is this console? Secondly, with Steam on the next Xbox, why would you buy games in the Xbox Store? So they also gonna ruin their own store and eco system. If they sell only a few consoles, who is gonna use Gamepass and on what device? Streaming games? I doubt it.
From what I've noticed, ms use the steam client quite a lot on the pc Xbox app. A lot of my games purchased thru Xbox end up in the steam apps folder, or fragments of it anyway. I do tend to get a lot more games thru game pass than I do steam. That's about the only good thing they have going for them at the moment.
Gamepass on PC is still around the same price I believe and not have the increased prices as on console. But for how long? When they loose Xbox console Gamepass users, how much users are left to keep Gamepass going? I really don't understand what Microsoft is doing....
It’s only rumours from internet blog posts, but the PS6 could also incorporate the steam client. I think at this point it would be silly not to as the next MS hardware will have an advantage over the PS6. Sony seem to have a good relationship with steam now so there’s a possibility of it happening.
It all depends on price, if PS6 is much cheaper people will accept when there is no Steam. Also it will be bloody stupid of they include steam, as they don't earn money form the store anymore.
I guess it will depend on the costs. I can't see steam doing anything like game pass. Personally I like the game pass, I can try games I normally wouldn't play, if I don't like it I can uninstall and try the next. No ponsing about claiming refunds etc. Some months I'll probably get well over £100 worth of games on game pass for the monthly subscription, which I don't even know how much that is now. But it's certainly cheaper than buying the games outright. Even if I purchase the game on steam for the full price I don't physically own it and there's no telling when it might be removed. Or it may well be that ms are losing money on game pass and want rid of it.
Who is this next XBOX console for? Me for starters. I have a huge XBOX library plus smaller Steam, Epic and GOG libraries, and it'd be nice to access them through a console, hybrid or not. I'm doing exactly that with my ROG XBOX Ally X at present and it's great to have everything at my fingertips - access to literally thousands of games I already own via a combination of XBOX Remote Play, XBOX Play Anywhere and/or installation on the device itself. I theoretically never need buy a game again, given that I'll be long gone before my backlog is cleared. The Ally X, be it the vanilla or XBOX version, costs a similar amount to what people are predicting the new XBOX will cost, and if the new console integrates my game libraries as well as the Ally X does then it'll be well worth the cost to me. The estimated cost is also around the same as a new iPhone costs, a device which will be replaced much sooner than a console. Maybe a bit cheaper than the phone, in fact. But people seem happy to drop >£1K on a new phone every 3 years. It's ironic that so many posters contributing here to a discussion about the next XBOX are PC gamers. I get that you and others have given up on XBOX, or maybe never even liked it in the first place. No problem - I gave up on PS after buying my PS4, having owned every PS including the Vita previously - we all just like what we like, and I fell out of love with PS for various reasons. I just prefer the XBOX hardware, including the controller, the UI, the achievements, the ecosystem, and Game Pass. TL;DR: don't assume there isn't a market for a hybrid XBOX console.
I also like Xbox, I had the 360 and now the Series S. Last gen I had the PS4, but actually I was dissapointed. I understand about your libary, that's important for me too. However, the last few years, my most played games are Farming Simulator 22, Mudrunner, TSW and Transport Fever 2. When I have to switch platforms, I would buy Farming Simulator 25 and Transport Fever 3, Mudrunner is only a few Euro, so TSW is the only game I have to invest in again. Most games will have a new version or I don't play them again. But that's me, it can ofcourse differs per person.
