Hey y'all! You don't know me yet, but I'm the new US Community Manager, and I'm here to find out about you! My first question is: If you could have any US Route added to TSW right now, what route (or routes) would you like added? My second question is: Why? I'll go first: I want the new Amtrak Mardi Gras Service to be featured! It goes through my city, so I'd love to see it added. *If you can't think of the route, then just a state or area a train goes through works, as I know we have bizarre naming traditions. Just have a fun train in mind? Then post that too! I want to know what y'all want from TSW!
Welcome and hello there. I dont know much about us trains at all but do enjoy the routes we have apart from 1 or 2. I would likr some more routes that go out grand central new york and I new freight route i dont mind where as long as it has variety. Any how welcome .
Any non-modern route (with both passenger and freight services) would be nice. Some of the most popular UK and German routes are historical (such as WCMLOS, Mittenwaldbahn) but USA only got Oakville, and then it was abandoned: For some more specific ideas, a route including part of the Scenic Subdivision would be nice, so we can get the Cascade tunnel: I would also like to see a route including one of the Lake Michigan Car Ferry services:
NYC Subway if I could have any TSW route I wanted for the US. But we already know that won’t happen… I’m not actually too sure what other route I’d like to see… just anywhere that’s got lovely scenery really.
For freight, dream route is always going to be the Saluda Grade in North and South Carolina from Asheville to Spartanburg set in either the 80s or 90s. (Here’s hoping it’s the route High Iron is working on!) Always wanted this route because of just how famous it is and the challenge it would give. For passenger, probably some more branch lines on the LIRR to fill in the route even more. Oyster Bay, Ronkonkoma, Etc. There’s still so much opportunity with that route.
soldiers pass / maria's pass / Feather River and Canyon Route etc plenty to go of what is available on train sim classic too
Hi and welcome. I would like the Hiawatha Service from Chicago to Milwaukee. It's an Amtrak route but also shares trackage with Metra commuter railroad ( no license currently ) and a couple of Class 1 freight railroads, mostly CN. We currently don't have any Midwest routes in TSW and not much Amtrak outside the NE Corridor
Washington DC Metro Orange, Silver & Blue lines please! Why: because it has one of the most beautiful and unique stations ever also it has unique rolling stock as well (especially the classic 6000 series)
Hi Candace, congrats and welcome! As for the routes I'd like to see added into the game, my number one pick would be the MBTA Red Line (I even made a thread on it!), but I've heard that DTG currently isn't exploring metro routes at the moment. If that is the case, I have a few other suggestions I hope can be considered... LIRR Oyster Bay Branch -- piggybacking off of Canadian Follower's comment above, it would make a great addition to the already extensive LIRR content we already have. It'd be cool to finally run diesel and dual-mode services (DE30AC, DM40AC, C3 railcars), and perhaps even make Hunterspoint Av and Long Island City have some stuff going on! I was also raised on Long Island so it's all very personal to me lol Tri-Rail -- a pretty lengthy commuter line in south Florida with a ton of potential -- local passenger, freight runs, Amtrak services, and if your team is feeling super generous and can get a license, maybe even Brightline, maybe as part of some sort of Deluxe edition content?
Here are some stations on the washington dc metro EDIT: Roling stock for this route will be the 6000 series/ 7000 series
So being a former NYC Transit conductor, i naturally want to see some NYC subway routes, but I know my former employer. So id be happy with a Metro North Hudson line, preferably to Poughkeepsie. Makes use of Diesel equipment more, awesome scenery, and honestly, im pretty sure we are getting annoyed with "Half routes"
list of US Routes I want in TSW: Amtrak Midwest Hiawatha Service Metro-North Pascack Valley Line Metro-North Hudson Line (SC42DM included) Staten Island Railway Atlanta Metro Washington DC Metro Brightline NJT Main Line North Jersey Coast Line SEPTA Warminster Line SEPTA West Trenton Line (set in the early 2000s) CSX Hanover Subdivision BNSF Stockton Subdivision Feather River Canyon Pacific Surfliner
I'm only slightly biased since this is my home route but I second this. It would require a ton of behind the scenes work, especially on the dispatcher since it really struggles with single main CTC routes like Clinchfield. Also the timetable would be a bit weird, since there's only 10-15 trains per day on the pass, so I'm not sure how they would handle that. On the topic of the Pacific Northwest, the Seattle area might be more practical for TSW since it has so much activity. I've already made a suggestion for a route from Everett to Lakewood that would encompass the whole Sounder operation and a ton of local freight and switching opportunities. Sounder I think is particularly attractive with the setting of commuter trains flying along the Puget Sound, primarily during the morning and evening. Overall the scenery would be the main draw and I think a lot of Brits would enjoy it given some slight similarities to their seaside lines, even if it isn't the most active rail line.
I'm not from the US, so any cargo route would be fine for me. For passenger routes, I'd be happy to see something like the Boston extension. Very interesting. It's a very interesting experience to travel like a commuter train with frequent stops, but you're actually riding on a huge, noisy diesel locomotive. The sound of a Gevo engine or two-stroke EMDs with the rumble of a HEP is simply divine. It creates a unique atmosphere. Plus, personally, I'd like a single-track route like the Maintelbahn. Diesel, single track—what could be better? I like LIRR too, but it doesn't have such a warm atmosphere. It's somewhat similar to Britain or Germany, which I've already seen and which we have a lot of.
Hi Candace and welcome to the circus lol My perpetual wish, as it's my local route: Amtrak Keystone Corridor (Philadelphia-Lancaster, PA)/SEPTA Paoli-Thorndale Line Total Route Length 68 miles Total Stops 25 (3 Amtrak-only, 5 shared stops, 17 SEPTA-only). Rolling stock: ACS-64 (Amtrak and SEPTA liveries), Amfleet Coaches, Keystone cabcar, bombardier single-level coaches (SEPTA), Silverliner IV/V EMU (SEPTA) All rolling stock except the Silverliner EMUs already exist in TSW. The Silverliner IV's are pretty ancient and not sure if anyone besides SEPTA still runs these, so could be hard to source- I'd be ok with a re-skinned Arrow III tbh- it gives at least the same general vibe. The Silverliner V would have to be modeled from scratch. This would be a busy and varied timetable with both hourly Amtrak Keystone services (continuing from the NY-Trenton route and stopping at Ardmore, Paoli, Exton, Downingtown, Coatesville, Parkesburg, and Lancaster) and the full SEPTA Paoli-Thorndale commuter timetable from Philly-Thorndale, the majority of which operate as all-stops services, with a couple of limited express services. Potential layers (from Horseshoe Curve, Penn Corridor, and Clinchfield): There is one daily local NS manifest train that runs from Coatesville's Cleveland Cliffs Steel mill towards Philly before departing the mainline and continuing to Conshohocken off-map. It's required to use a caboose due to reversing moves onto the mainline, which is pretty unique these days. The mill itself would be interesting and would give some use to the unbranded MP15 from Penn Corridor for switching duties in the scrapyard and moving stuff around the mill. Potential DLC: Amtrak P42 Genesis for the twice-daily Pennsylvanian. Potential next-gen high speed train if/when the track improvements between philly and harrisburg are complete. SEPTA would proably be unbranded, but they're also having major budget woes currently, so maybe they'd be a bit more amenable to a licensing deal and some positive PR than they have in the past.
If I could have one U.S route, it would be all 4 of the RTD Denver Commuter Rail (it's only 53 miles!!). It's a very network style route with several destinations, including the Airport line (of which I've been on personally), and of course the Silverliner V cars would be included.
1) Cascades with new Airo trainsets aka Chargers - fast diesel with cab car 2) any route with modern Chargers - because fast passenger diesel 3) BrightLine Florida, because I love those trainsets, but unfortunately they have few stops and for that route to be viable, it would have to cover huge distances in terms of TSW - because damn good looking fast diesel and streamliend aesthetics 4) South Shore Line from South Bend (I think) to Chicago Union Station - because those couple times I had been to US, this was pretty much the only line I experienced ... thought it not that much remarkable, but back then I wasnt such a huge train fan as today important aspect with any of these would be to have properly implemented safety systems enforcing speeds and aspects etc.... as much as I like Peninsula Corridor or Metrolink stuff, the thing that only Alerter is properly implemented bugs me every time I also like the Via Rail trainsets for Canada, but I dont know jack... about Canadian routes basically I would love to experience modern US diesels, be it at usual 80 mph commuter limits or the faster modern diesels like Siemens Chargers
oh and then I adore routes like the Empire Builder, but those would require a different kind of game, probably its own
What’s going on with Septa? Sorry, I’m not from the area so I don’t keep up with passenger operators lol
what keeps me coming to those routes is the engaging loco/train setup, then managing speed is pretty fun, and of course the route is interesting (along with Antelope Valley Line)... but yeah, the fact that pretty much nothing enforces those signals/yellows and such is a downside for sure... thats why I love the ATC/ACSES routes (tho those sometimes tend to suffer from overreactive penalties at the very end when you get STOP, preventing you from getting close to stop markers cleanly (Boston Worcester is probably the worst offender - even tried approaching the stop marker with like 3-4 mph of speed, and still got PCS open when I stopped lol)
Basically they're having a battle with the state over a permanent funding stream. They're claiming recent infrastructure spending combined with decreased ridership post-COVID have left them nearly insolvent, but the evidence is far from crystal-clear. They recently threatened major service cuts (lots of bus routes and 6 regional rail lines were going to be eliminated) combined with a huge fare increase if they didn't get the deal they wanted. In the end, the state didn't cave, but SEPTA abandoned the service cuts for two years (apparently they "found" enough in a contingency fund) but went ahead with the fare increase anyway. The state-level battle continues (and probably will in some form forever as upstate lawmakers generally hate funding anything in Philly at more than the bare minimum). With Gov Shapiro being pretty popular, the pro-transit folks are hoping his re-election bid next year has enough coattails to keep the state house in Dem hands and flip the state senate. In that scenario a permanent funding solution for SEPTA is much more likely. He also has presidential ambitions in 2028, so that also could bring more transit $ to Pennsylvania if he ended up winning.
Amtrak Pacific Surfliner from Los Angeles to Oceanside Reasons: -It covers Metrolinks Orange County Line, which we have enough stock in game to cover. -It has bits of Metrolinks other lines on it to add more services for it. -The Amtrak Surfliner has been requested alot in the past, and would be a popular route. -DTG has references from the Amtrak Yard in LA from their original Metrolink trip which was shown in an article in the past -The Surfline would feature a few BNSF yards, and feature their freight trains, which would add to the routes services -Amtraks Yard in LA would be a feature on the route. -The route can support Amtraks long distance trains, mainly the Southwest Chief, even if only 1 stop, but the Amtrak Yard and LAUPT allows for addition switching services.
routes for me can be any kind, whether passenger or freight, what I really want are the US locos I can list some: P42DC (Amtrak) SW1000R (Amtrak diesel shunter) GP40-2 (CSX) GP40MC (MBTA) GP40PH-2B (NJT) with Comet V coaches and cab-car
I’d love to see San Diego Coaster, The Hudson line and the Seattle Sounder. Along with METRA. id we are talking freight then my knowledge is limited to what I’ve played in TSC or MTS, of which Techapachi loop would be up there. But I’d love to see a short line one day in TSW
Welcome, Candace! I’d really love to see another leg of the Northeast Corridor, something a little faster paced than the upcoming New York to Stamford line. The stretch I’m most interested in is Baltimore to Wilmington, since it’s a section of the NEC we haven’t seen in either TSW or TSC! TSC already gave us DC to Baltimore, which is a solid route that puts a lot of rolling stock to good use. I understand there might be licensing challenges around MARC services, and some players may not like the idea of unbranded trains/equipment, but personally, I’d rather see it represented in some form than not have it included at all. As far as Baltimore to Wilmington, It’s new territory and it offers plenty of interesting scenery and landmarks like the Susquehanna River Bridge, the Bush and Gunpowder Rivers near Baltimore, and also several freight yards outside the city so that could also open the door for playable freight services too! Ideally, I’d prefer to see Baltimore to Philadelphia, but I understand route length and resource limits might make that harder to achieve. Both Baltimore and Wilmington are important Amtrak stops, and I think this section would be a perfect chance to introduce the brand new Avelia Liberty sets on one of the faster, more consistent stretches between the two major cities. There’s also the idea of setting this route in the early 2010s or even the mid to late 2000s, during the period when both the Acela Express and the AEM-7 were running along this stretch. Another option could be the mid-2010s, when the ACS-64 was being introduced which would bring a mix of all three types of Amtrak equipment to appear together. Choosing an earlier time period could be a great way to introduce some additional Amtrak stock and add more variety to the experience without having to necessarily rely on MARC if that ends up not working out.
Hi and welcome Candace! If I could choose, I would say a part of the CSX LCL Subdivision with street running through La Grange, KY! Would be amazing to see in TSW.
If I had to pick one: Metra BNSF line. Three tracks. Frequent commuter service. Amtrak. Freight. Needs a license. But also Pacific Surfliner LA to Oceanside. Frequent commuter service. Amtrak. Freight, less so. Have all licenses. Learned how to do oceans with Riviera. Hudson Line. For all the reasons everybody else has already stated. Freight idea: CSX Waycross to Baldwin. Large yards. Lots of traffic. Folkston Funnel. 75 miles.
I’ve got family who live in Kentucky and visit every now and then, especially for the Trackside Market in September and light up Lagrange in December. Only been a handful of times but each time has been a great experience. Great town!
I'm usually exclusively a UK content person... However, there are exceptions. I really like US commuter routes like LIRR, New York to Trenton, Boston Sprinter & Boston to Worcester. I think a great addition to the commuter routes would be one of the newly built Brightline routes which look slightly European in design and would be a great high speed route.
Slight correction. The South Shore Line terminates at Chicago Millennium Station. But an excellent suggestion nonetheless.
oh yeah, thx... it's been quite a few years since I had been there, got it confused with Union Station which isnt too far away from there I think and has Amtrak/Metra services, right? also, I believe South Shore Line has some nice unique stops (like the Portage/Dunes one almost in the middle of nowhere) and one or more stops is almost like street running
Jeez, anything involving Chicago. We've got the CTA's third rail system, Metra's commuter trains (both unlicensed, but if unbranded is an option...), we're Amtrak's headquarters and national hub, and we have a huge amount of freight traffic passing through the area, with several large freight yards and quite a few businesses near the tracks that always seem to have freight cars parked nearby for pickup. The possibilities seem endless.
Hi and welcome Candace I would love to see any part of the beautiful MRL subdivision in Montana, preferably between Helena and Missoula, taking in the Mullan Pass and tunnel. Lots of Montana Rail Link freight services, plus Amtrak too!
Ohhh that be a good one to try.. especially the Silver to the updated/extension Ashburn..I think that's the last stop.
Any SEPTA regional rail line with Silverliner IV or earlier model. And all the sounds are the same from the Arrow III's.
There is currently 17,448 threads in the Suggestions forum of TSW, and we were always ensured that Dovetail reads it, so you can probably start there.
There's a whole raft of ideas floated in the Suggestions forum. Initially rather than what I want, better initially to list what I don't want... 1. Another NE electrified commuter route. Done to death. The exception would be a NYC Subway route but presumably that is still mired in access/research hell. 2. Another western route. Let's face it, the graphics may be ancient but Run 8 has SoCal pretty much sewn up in terms of the LA area, all the way up to Modesto and out to Seligman. Personally I would like to see something like the D&RGW Front Range from Denver out towards Granby or how far it can be pushed. I don't think we've actually seen that in payware form since the original Trainmaster 4 programme way back in 2000. Followed closely by something mid West may around St Louis or Kansas City, the old MPKS routes across via Jefferson City. Finally, maybe head down into Florida but again avoiding the territory already covered by Run 8. The other thing that really need to change with your US routes is the gameplay style. The freight routes really are not suited to rigid European style timetabled A to B runs. Need to look more at how Run 8 does it with the ability to keep a persistent real time environment going, serving industry where cars can be dropped and left for several hours or even days to load/unload then fetched back on a local to be formed into manifests. Of course that would require more than our infamous single save game slot… Or you can just drive an intermodal across the route. I’m sure Matt P has played Run 8 extensively and can fill you in on the finer points of its gameplay.
Hi Candace, greetings from Russia NEC: Trenton - Philadelphia 30th Street – Baltimor - Washington DC, because: 1) Washington, D.C., the capital of the USA - it is logical to get it in the game 2) Expand the NEC in the game itself (we already have the New York - Trenton, Boston - Providence sections and soon there will be New York - Stamford) 3) Possibility to add AEM-7, HHP-8, Avelia Liberty and more P. S. And then there is a very small desire for the Surfliner Pacific route: LA - San Diego (which was in TS) + North Jersey Coast Line, which I loved very much in the same TS
I think for me personally, I'd like to see some older US 80s/90s content in the game. I'm not really too particular on routes in general, but I feel like it's kind of a shame that almost all US content is modern. Like if we are going to get another Northeast Corridor route, have it be set in the 90s with Amtrak AEM-7s and E60s in phase 3 paint. It would be nice to see a route set in that time period considering both UK and Germany have been getting some older content recently. I'm really excited to see HIS ATSF Pack as well as their GP60Ms eventually getting a Warbonnet pack, but I really wish they had their own route to run on set in the 90s and not a timetable on a modern route. Having older routes would also allow for more railroads to be added into the game, and not just the big 6 that the US has now. I know this might be controversial, but I would even go as far to say I'd even pay for a version of a route that's already in the game just set in the past. Like if they took Sand Patch Grade, made the route look like it did in the 90s with TSW 6 standards and added a new loco like an AC6000CW or a SD50, I'd probably buy that. Or a version of Cajon Pass were the tunnels are still up and the third track hasn't been added yet with ATSF warbonnets and SP. Or best yet, Horseshoe Curve set back in it's Conrail days.
I personally would like to see either the Hudson Line to at least Poughkeepsie or the Hartford Line with freight added in game. An Albany, NY area map going between Hudson and Schenectady/Saratoga and including the freight operations in Hudson, Troy, and Selkirk would be amazing as well (Run8 has a similar route), giving a good sandbox for Amtrak, CSX, and CP activities without having to commit to developing full-length routes for one singular road. Also, as our new US Manager, would you please for the love of everything holy press for the Genesis-series of locomotives to make it into the game... lol
If we can think North America instead of just US, a route set in east Canada would bring something new to TSW. Yes, we had Oakville but without the Go Trains, it never fulfilled its promise. Something like CN's Kingston Sub from Toronto to Brockville (208 miles) would provide an interesting timetable with heavy through freights, locals switching at industries and VIA passenger trains. Alternatively, CP's Belleville Sub from Toronto to Smiths Falls (211 miles) with lots of heavy freight as well as locals. Set in early 2000s, would include the iconic SD40-2s as well as GE super power.
