This is mostly a personal rant and a public complaint; the majority of the moderators on the Discord server are quite excessive with their strictness and do some unnecessary 'reminders'. I have also been timed out today for seemingly no reason, haven't been given one either. I left and rejoined because their "timeout" consisted of roles only, no actual Discord timeout. Got timed out again, left and rejoined again. Then they just bloody banned me off the server, again without given reason? Is this how you want to treat your community, eh? Communication is about as much as the one on TSW's long-existing bugs and issues...
I’ve seen some of your posts on other TS related Discord servers. You do come across at times as terse & confrontational.
I’m guessing the ban was due to not accepting the timeout and repeatedly trying to regain access. Have you considered sticking to the rules? An odd concept perhaps but it could work.
They can find staff at weekends to monitor Discord then, but not to sort out the DTL/Mastery support issue which probably just needs something pinging on a server...
Ban/Timeout evading is quite commonly a bannable offense on Discord and is against TOS I think so hard to blame DTG, although I do agree that the moderation and clarity of rules (this applies to some - not all - community-run servers) is quite poor. Although it is broadly the same people doing it for DTG too so that tracks.
I don't know the specifics of this instance, so have no opinion, but the more I read about this Discord thing the less I want anything to do with it.
Don't take this the wrong way, as you have been lovely chap on a personal level on these forums... But you're probably not going to help yourself by posting leaked content, or continuously going against the rules (creating other accounts to bypass an existing ban). Just take it on the chin and learn to behave yourself and follow etiquette on some things. I'm going to side with DTG staff on this one I'm afraid, and they are usually quite lenient anyway. If you done this on any other forum I'm on they are a stickler for rules and the ban would be permanent, not a temporary or restricted one.
If your discord behaviour is similar to your behaviour on here & Reddit (leaked an entire DTG title & antagonising users, along with flaming console users) then there’s your answer for the time out. Trying to subvert the time out on Discord will get you outright banned from the whole platform.
It's good for the sake of getting notifications for news / sales although for those of us who are fairly active on these forums anyway that isn't worth all that much, otherwise it doesn't offer anything more than this forum does.
This right here is likely why they banned you: Circumventing a temporary ban (which you've apparently done twice) is a surefire way to make it a permanent one.
i dont like either discord or dtg, too many rules, not enough problem solving! Lets lighten up and get the game improved. I guess this will be deleted too. lol
Community moderators should be fixing bugs now rather sun doing their actual job? In the guys own words he tried circumventing a ‘timeout’ (Side note - Seriously what the actual? Is discord just for primary kids?) not once but twice and then wonders why he gets a perma ban, and your response is that theh should be bug fixing?
If it’s a question of dialling into a server TANE the people monitoring Discord are actual DTG employees, I don’t see why not.
im sure having the community team (and everyone else employed) involved in bug fixing is going to solve far more issues then it causes. let’s get Dave from accounts looking at the stuttering while we are at it.
The point is they employ more community people than people who could actually, you know, fix the various issues with TSW. They appear to have more marketing staff than anything.
There is probably a reason for that. It's way easier to find people for doing the "easy" stuff than people for the complex things that need specific knowledge. Asking for community managers doing the bug fixes is ridicules, honestly. Do you ask employees in a bakery to fix your car (just one example of the 1mio that comes in mind), do you? Again, ridicules thinking.
Mike, unfortunately this is the same issue that keeps coming up with him and others… They say all kinds of things but have absolutely no clue how it actually works. This is one of those “DTG should stop releasing DLCs and fix everything first” types… But that’s just not how it works three quarters of the staff would be sitting around doing nothing because they’re not even capable of doing that. It’s a nice statement, but factually very dumb.
Back OT, there isn't a discussion forum on the Internet where trying to circumvent a block with a sock puppet won't get you banned.
Hi Myron. Having looked into this, it looks like you were trying to evade moderator actions. This could also potentially be TOS violation for Discord, but I haven't investigated that further. Even if you disagree with the moderator decision, we would always urge people to use the appropriate channels when making a complaint. To further add clarification to those confused by who moderates our Discord, it it is moderated by both ourselves (primarily Jan, Jamie, Alex and myself as CMs) and volunteer moderators who cover over weekends.
Well it seems that " discord " is an appropriate title for this forum too. There's enough friction and conflict here, why would I need an actual " Discord " ? Besides I don't like the idea of a bunch of " trusties " moderating a forum. That was suggested for this forum but fortunately we haven't heard any more about that recently thank goodness. On the subject of " fixing bugs " versus releasing new content, you can't expect CM's to be involved in either. But it does seem that DTG leans more towards marketing than QA. Fewer releases with fewer bugs might unite us as a player community. Right now there's a deep divide between the critics and the defenders.
Yes & having 3/4 of your staff not capable of keeping your game running whilst you peddle content every other month is the issue. I think Verns initial post was pointing out that DTG are throwing resources at the community team when many of us would like to see resources going to QA & bug fixing.
It was also borne out of a bit of frustration at not getting my Mastery sorted, but that's all good now so the red mist has subsided. However the further point raised as that DTG can monitor Discord at the weekend yet this forum often goes unmoderated with all hell breaking out until Monday morning, when someone turns up to restore order!
Well apparently the weekends on Discord are moderated by " volunteers" ( read " trusties " ) which is another reason for me to avoid it. If that happened here, I would not read or post on the forum on the weekends. I suspect it would be more contentious than it is now, if not outright chaotic.
So we have a dedicated team for admin issues. How about a dedicated team for bugs/technical issues? Like how we used to during the TSW2 era (preservation team). Routes wouldn’t be in the state that they’re today if we had a team constantly checking quality control and responding to player feedback more urgently.
Actually, I think the opposite. They should continue releasing DLC given its their revenue stream. I have never once thought they should just focus on fixing things.
What we need is someone trustworthy to look after the forums at the weekend. I've heard that Tim Davie has just become free...............oh
One rule that's pretty universal on internet boards is that moderator rules must be followed. It's common sense, really. It's true here, certainly.

Sadly to many people think rules dont apply to them and when they do get applied they try and blame everyone else. And THIS is exactly why i wont bother with the DTG discord. The forums can be bad enough at times with bickering can only imagine what the discord is like at weekends.
