The C40-8W is missing its loco numbers on the back. Very disappointed.

So there is a tutorial for the C40-8W . But not the SD40 so im guessing the drive the same as the other SD40s then.

I don't know if I understand your disappointment correctly, but I was looking for photos of real locomotives, and if I see correctly, they don't actually have a number on the rear end.

Gonna be quite honest here, absolutely not worth the price for some reskins and a new timetable. The cabs are not modeled correctly, so it's essentially just a reskin of existing locomotives with a few exterior tweaks. The already bad sounds are mostly reused, with the exception of the new horn which is very nice. I will say though the timetable is well done. I can't believe it took a year and a half for this...

Doing the service “AT&SF Grain Extra (Part 3)” in timetable mode with the SD40, the game crashed about 200 yards from the end of the service pulling into San Bernardino - PS5 Pro.

Santa Fe painted over the number plaques on the rear so, that is prototypical.

One question, is the Santa Fe F7 included in the new Timetable or was it not in service at that time?

The new freight cars don't have their run numbers disabled in the livery editor, and the Cement hopper has ATSF red parts on it.

so i found a few issues, i did see someone pointed out that there's no numbers on the rear of the dash 8, here's a photo upload_2025-11-13_13-46-24.jpeg
i also found that the inside of the cab and door wasn't changed to accommodate the gullwing cab that ATSF uses (same on the other side) upload_2025-11-13_13-47-14.jpeg
and this one is a small issue but the tip of the sand hoses on the lead truck are moving with the wheel, heres a few photos showing it moving 20251113134915_1.jpg 20251113134915_3.jpg
other than these issues with the C40-8W i found nothing wrong with the SD40-2

The EOTD issue with the 3 bay that came with the CSX C40-8W are still present on the ones that come with this pack. Where they spawn under the car in the middle.

If you take a closer look it was already visible in the coming soon item. Shame, now I am certain, I pass this dlc for the moment.

I don't see it in the coming soon, but that's not important...... well, I don't really know if I want it that way either....... in general, compared to the basic BNSF timetable, I don't see much benefit, just the feeling of a different livery

They do in fact have a rear number in real life. Its small and in the center. Its missing in the dlc on all platforms I believe. I brought this up before release, but as usual, fell on deaf ears.

I consider the polygons crawling through the roof to be a bigger problem and then the cabin doors, which supposedly have different polygons on the inside too

I've compiled a list of ~50 bugs after thoroughly looking through the pack this afternoon. I am on PC/Steam, and these are just objective bugs that I experienced firsthand, and no notes on incorrect/missed realism details (which there are an extreme amount, too).

    ATSF C40-8W
    - Cab interior roof clips through exterior gull wing roof
    - The rear cab door interior is taller than the exterior, causing obvious clipping on the inside and outside
    - Horn has no (or very little) cab occlusion
    - CSX "step" decal left in cab
    - No rear number decals
    - Horn button on conductors control stand doesn't activate the horn (only bell)
    - Nose cab light emits no lighting, but the texture does glow
    - AI trains have their ditchlights turned off
    - the ATSF skin can sub into the place of the CSX skin
    - A polygon of the leading truck, front axle sanding hose is attatched to the wheel, making the sanding hose wiggle with wheel movement
    - In livery designer, there is broken UV mapping on the horn and exhaust stack (black splotches), as well as the number board numbers remaining visible and the brake wheel remaining grey
    - The snow mapping shows the original CSX antenna array on the roof, and dozens of other small texture bugs, too many to list
    - There are some black lines on the very front right and left red panels near the front steps, possibly caused by an incorrect ambient occlusion bake
    - Stretched UV on the plow causing texture warpage
    - The back of the roof numberboards are missing faces, causing a large see-through section of the mesh
    - The cigar band decal around the nose floats off of the nose on the edges where they wrap around
    - The center axle on both trucks is missing a traction motor and axle

    UP Coal Hopper
    - the EOTD placement is in the center of the car and partially in the ground
    - Textures have AO baking for completely missing car placard holders

    ATSF Coal Hopper
    - the EOTD placement is in the center of the car and partially in the ground
    - Mis-aligned AO baking on the car placard holders

    ATSF SD40-2
    - The front "Santa Fe" text is the completely wrong font, and the shape of the front cigar band is wrong for SD40s
    - In the livery designer, the numberboard numbers, cab numbers, and rear numbers remain visible. The underframe is colorable, but the trucks are not
    - There is no snow mapping, which is very obviously missing when coupled with the C40-8W
    - All of the fans spin at full speed, even the dynamic brake fans which should only be active during dynamic braking

    ATSF 3-Bay Covered Hopper
    - In menus, the name shows up with underscores instead of spaces
    - The handbrake wheel snaps back to a "default" position when interacting with it, causing very harsh motion blur effects around the wheel
    - In the livery designer, the autonumbering on the sides and ends remains visible

    Unbranded 3-Bay Covered Hopper
    - In menus, the name shows up with underscores instead of spaces
    - The handbrake wheel snaps back to a "default" position when interacting with it, causing very harsh motion blur effects around the wheel

    ATSF Autorack
    - In menus, the name shows up with underscores instead of spaces
    - Cars inside of the loaded autoracks show up as the Unreal Engine grey tile missing texture

    89ft Flatcar
    - The ambient occlusion baking on the wheel surfaces causes obvious dark spots that rotate with the wheel
    - The snow mapping is broken along the entire car, particularly around the trucks, which are exceptionally obvious when the car is moving
    - The snow mapping on the semi trailer load is white dots applied evenly all over the trailer

    ATSF 86ft Autoparts Boxcar
    - The "Climb Down" command (from the inside of the boxcar) is misspelled as "Climb Dawn"
    - When the car shows it is loaded with boxes on the interior, you can still climb up inside of the car
    - The door clickspots conflict with the "Climb Up" command from the ground, making it difficult to close the doors once opened
    - In the livery designer, the autonumbering on the sides and ends remains visible

    ATSF Cement Hopper
    - The roof hatches show a number with 6 decimal places when opening/closing
    - The "Unload Hatches" tooltop at the bottom of the car is missing a space, it says "UnloadHatches"
    - The handbrake wheel snaps back to a "default" position when interacting with it, causing very harsh motion blur effects around the wheel
    - In livery designer, the trucks, roof hatches, handbrake, and some brake rigging are still red, and the auto numbers remain on the sides and ends of the car

    Other
    - Some rolling stock uses a CSX EOTD, others use an unbranded BNSF EOTD
    - None of the locomotives feature the new TSW6 faults feature
    - Coupler clanking continuously plays at a standstill (possibly related to brakes?)
    - The formation designer tool breaks completely if you add 1 locomotive or railcar from the pack into the consist

    Wow.

All these 3rd party devs, as well as DTG themselves, could really do with using the community to do some QC for them.

For the price that it is worth, here are the issues:
    • The locomotive sounds are absolutely horrid. The Dash 8 still has that whiny engine note. It sounds more thumpy. The whole US freight loco sounds need a complete overhaul.
    • Locomotives are too clean. A little bit of wear would’ve been okay.

    Hey y'all!
Thank you for all these reports. I'll get them compiled and sent out tomorrow.

Basically, I'm going to talk to the devs, and let them know the issues y'all have reported. Hopefully have some updates next week if not sooner. Otherwise, I'll just be around and gathering feedback from the community.

ahh so I read somewhere on the train sim community discord that there is a person named "Gary" at High Iron simulations and he is supposedly kind of arrogant and not very receptive to any negative feedback / criticism and he reportedly deleted a lot of comments on HIS facebook page pointing out any errors or problems in the dlc ; so I don't think he cares much about any feedback from the community... so good luck I guess... candacedtg

Schnauz checks the new pack out and isn't impressed. I mostly agree.
Seems HIS and consorts took it easy on this DLC and despite taking their time, didn't put much effort in it.

An ATSF wide nose cab with brow and gull wings is nice from the outside, if you ignore the coarse cigar band decal not quite fitting the nose. But the cheapskate at DTM didn't create a proper gull wing cab interior to fit under the double dented roof when he was handed over the bare CSX 3D model.

And HIS spent lots of time on creating this 90's timetable with a lllooottt of minuscule timetable segments just to bloat the advertised number of services?

At least the thumbstick players will be kept busy.

Worth its salt? That's up to you. For me, another addition to the >50% discount wish list

Watching SP's video above, can someone tell me how HIS messed up the Dash 8 so bad where putting the safety system on disables any throttle control? Like is one not supposed to use the Alerter with it?

I bought this pack like dumb whale because I REALLY want to support US Content and i can live with some of the sloppiness and smaller bugs, but honestly the EOTD being broken is the final straw for me- i'm refunding, which i never do.

Other than the timetable, which is pretty good, the rest is very sad- i figured it would be worthwhile for the rolling stock even if the locos were duds, but they have a ton of issues as well.

I'll rebuy if it looks like HIS are going to put some real effort into making it right, but i don't have much confidence right now.

Complete radio silence from them around here doesn't help the perception that this was a very low-effort project and a terrible first impression.

Well my biggest issue is that it was broken in the original CSX version, so they shoud have taken the time to fix it while they were reskinning it, so it's emblematic of the shoddy work overall.

The EOTD relays the brake pipe pressure and other info from the last car of the train- with these long trains it's crucial info for the driver to have. Some of it can be figured out from the HUD, but not all.

It's basic functionality that the train should have

About C40-8W, knowed as Dash 8.

Remember that what's inside the cab is the Head Of Train Device ("HOTD"), it captures the parameter from the end of the tail, which is the End Of Train Device ("EOTD"). In short, nothing is shown on the HOTD, neither the locomotive distance counter (feet) parameter nor the pressure (psi) parameter.

The locomotive becomes unsuitable for driving, especially for someone who has already been inside this locomotive, this function is one of the important characteristics for driving.
