https://store.steampowered.com/app/3917090/Assetto_Corsa_Rally/ Anyone tried this? Sadly the minimum PC spec is way above my old potato so will need to wait for an upgrade or replacement. However the use of real courses as opposed to the fictional events in the likes of WRC or Dirt is a nice throwback to the old Magnetic Fields Rally Championship @1999. That featured the entire GB Rally on (for the time) very well made and full length courses. Sadly the things you could do to get it running on newer hardware and OS now seem to have passed by. I assume this Assetto Rally will also be getting more courses and cars, once it comes out of early access.
Yes, I picked it up at 40% off on Instant gaming (so less than the price of recent gameplay packs for the whole game). Haven’t had a lot of chance to play it yet and I’m not that good at rally games anyway, but it’s stunning. At the moment the cars and tracks are very limited, and I haven’t had a chance to play with my steering wheel. But for early access, it looks very promising. The replays look almost real!
Planning to buy soon, looks great although has the dreaded ue5 microstutter going by the reviews, but not too annoying apparently. Reviews saying physics up there with the gold standard RBR but need a bit more tweaking. What is weird is that the best Rally physics/gameplay are still held by the ancient RBR which is over 20 years old! Surely by now we'd have superior physics? The same thing in train simming, the openbve 323 with x city still has the best feel of driving a train compared to any other sim I feel. I occasionally go back to that and am amazed by the physics. Graphics aren't everything.
I really struggled with RBR, just getting past the Driving School was hard work, particularly with a joypad rather than a wheel. Why it’s such a shame the 1999 one doesn’t work anymore, even with the various hacks. At one time I did have it working but my last effort could only manage a small section of the display in the top left of the monitor. There was nothing quite like finishing Pundershaw or Kershope with 50% of your gearbox gone, with very little repair time and two stages left to do!
