I find myself wondering if there will be a sale this coming Black Friday? Having recently got back into Train Sim, I have my eye on a few routes as my collection feels rather sparse, but the route prices feel rather steep at the standard price. Especially for someone looking to bag a few at a time.

It occurs to me that perhaps there may be an opportunity to snap a few up next Friday in some sort of Black Friday sale? Is this often the case? I know it is for other sims.

Next Steam sale will be the Xmas/New Year one which I think starts on 21st December. A while back they equalised their sales so more evenly spread over the year, which meant losing the Black Friday/Thanksgiving one.

Sure, but not all sales on Steam are during an official Steam sale. I regularly get sale offers on Steam. Well, I get them almost every day for things on my wishlist.

Indeed, not saying there won't be something but the big DTG TSW sale outside of the regular Steam ones seems to be their "Rail Fest" event usually in February. Best advice is to watch for official news in the Announcements or Live section as DTG will not respond directly to questions like this.

Just after my last reply, I had a Discord alert about the PlayStation Black Friday and Cyber Monday sale. So it seems that PlayStation will be getting one.

Now the question is, will the rest of us?

That's correct. Actually the next big sale starts December 18th.

To be fair, we on Steam get far more sales than our console brethren, so I don’t begrudge them having a sale when we don't. The winter sale will come soon enough.

Just be patient or buy at full price. It’s simple!

I'm a fiscally prudent man seeking to make an informed purchasing decision. I'm not a child on Christmas Eve.

Well, neither do I, good fellow. I'm not quite sure where you've gotten that notion from.

Where was there any expression of impatience implied?

Thanks for solving that complicated equation for me, though.

Some curious replies to an honest question. A simple "possibly, we had one last year" or "Usually not" or "I don't know" would have sufficed.

Meanwhile, over on XBox I'd imagine the next crack at a sale is probably the big annual one that takes place over late December/New Year.

I agree. Those patronizing responses are weird. DTG is not the government or some kind of public service. No need to " be patient ". Nothing wrong with demanding more sales from a commercial company.

Glossop Line worth it for £8 do we think?

Or is Man Picc still stupidly empty even if I have every UK route except Manchester Airport and Brum-Crewe to use as layers?

Still ludicrously dead, and I don't expect much in the way of improvement.
Maybe one day we might get a modern transpennine route with some TPE rolling stock to layer into other routes that share that station, but I don't know if we'd see Glossop revised with those AI layers... It'd really need some kind of actual additional units of its own to justify a new timetable.

Thanks..... I thought it might be but wondered if the 390 layered in from WCMLS at least..... Might give it a miss then and wait a little while for larger discounts on Man Airport and Mildmay Line.

Nope, very limited on the layers.

Definitely worth it for £8 if you are on PC.
It is only the obsession with Timetables, and the unwillingness of people to 'go under the bonnet' and tinker with it, that stops it reaching the potential it already has. Add a few extra paths, create some scenarios, bung in your Pendolinos (plus anything else that takes your fancy) and off you go. (I did start to make a paths mod but got side-tracked by other things. Perhaps I should revisit it).
No more difficult than creating some of the lovely liveries that you already do :)

And before someone else says it.............of course DTG should've made the route better in the first place :D

Yeah, I would say it's worth it for what it is.

Just if any of your stated desires are deal breakers, then maybe not for you.

Not worth it imo. Very bland one train route that gets boring fast. I actually got it for 3.99 in a sale so I don’t see why it’s gone up again. yes Manchester is empty, MAC a far better route.

The problem is that despite a few faults, MAC is a far superior route, especially when it comes to the area and layers around Piccadilly. It makes Glossop look dead in comparison.
It's a real shame that the Piccadilly model from MAC can't be put into Glossop and the scenery improved, along with a few layers. A bit of TLC and Glossop could be a good route.
That and get the MAC 323 into Glossop as well. ATS certainly tweaked that unit for the better.

If only JT had done a Northern 142 for the two Manchester routes, chance for some short journeys on each.

Not quite true. (For PC users anyway). See below a Transport for Wales CL158 slowly departing Piccadilly and passing a Pendolino as a 9-car CL323 rake, made up of 3 different units and 3 different CC liveries, overtakes. There is also a CL66 hauling Seacows, Turbots and BBAs in the far left platform but you can't really see this. Knocked up in Scenario Editor in less than 5 minutes :)

No get all 3 CL323 units into the route and put them together to get a variety of CC liveries on the same train.

That looks good but you have to use scenario editor which makes it too much bother for me and many others. You can just drive MAC and see all that already there.

Yes, but that requires manual creation of scenarios, it does nothing for the free roaming timetable.

But you can't go to Glossop on MAC ;) However I understand your point.

I agree. However that is the main problem with TSW.

DTG obsesses with Timetables (and by default layers) but makes next to no effort at all in setting routes up to be used fully in Scenario Editor. Timetables date (as you are finding out) and Scenario Editor will only work effectively if time is spent putting the correct number of paths into a route in the first place (so that console users can use them too). Ditto formations. For whatever reason, all DLC producers choose not to do this meaning the only alternative is mods. (Even MAC is hopeless on paths and requires a mod to make certain parts of the route accessible).

Anyway that's enough from me in a thread about that Black Friday Sale. I'm thinking of getting Cardiff purely so I can see how much that route needs to be modded to get busy scenarios, extra stock, of all time periods, into it ;) Who knows I might even get around to putting the new Pacer onto Glossop if you want to see it there? :D
