My train sim classic has been working on my laptop fine for many years up until now, where it has been getting stuck on the v79.0a Synchronising with Steam Workshop page, then not responding and i end up closing it. (see images below)
would be great to have it back working again, as i do enjoy the game. I have uninstalled and reinstalled train sim multiple times, and it still gets stuck. Please can someone help.

"I have uninstalled and reinstalled train sim multiple times" - Why?

    What are your computer specs?
    What Graphics are you using?

    v79.0a, the latest version?
Previous versions worked OK and you didn't add more Workshop subscriptions since the update to v79?

You haven't done a backup before the upgrade or are unable to revert to a previous, working, version?
Alternative, go into Properties => Betas and select 'public_beta ... ' which should take you back to v78.1a for testing purposes.

Only the .dll files in the Plugins folder are needed for testing a previous version.

There seem to be persistent problems with the game's unzip routine borking Workshop archives which might cause the game to hang when it parses Workshop scenarios.

Before doing anything drastic, try running NameMyRoute.exe from the Railworks folder.
It should display all your routes and scenarios after a while. Open all the ' plusses ' and look for garbage in the description, those scenarios have a malformed .xml file.
Corrupted .bin files often de-serialize to 4 GB files and will cause huge delay, disk usage and ultimately freeze or crash the game.

Move the route folder out of the way and try restarting the game.
Go through all the folders with garbage until your game starts by eliminating all the faulty scenarios.
Or delete the scenario folders with garbage from the route folder.

You should unsubscribe from Workshop scenarios with garbage, as after re-downloading them the error usually recurs since the game cannot properly expand the zip received from Steam.

When you really want to play a certain Workshop scenario, go into SteamLibrary/Steamapps/workshop/content/24010 and look for the scenario there. A tedious process, unless you know the UUID (#scnr( ... ) from the Workshop page and search for the first string of characters). Manually unzip the archive using a competent program like 7Zip.

You can also bulk unzip the 24010 folder to your desktop and move all the Content into the game's folder. You could overwrite all the Workshop content with properly unzipped files. But beware, an update to the Workshop will force the game to unzip a fresh Steam file into another borked scenario.
