i am just confused is the about the the complete collection for their Western Mainlines. Are they suppose to come all in 1 route like a full continuous route from paddington to Penzance and other destinations or is it in separate routes like paddington to exeter st davids, exeter st davids to plymouth and plymouth to penzance?
The track is one continuous route from Paddington to Penzance. The collection packs provide the scenery and scenarios for the different parts of the route. The further you want to go from Paddington, the more packs you need.
Too bad the rolling stock for the Night Riviera is not up to comparison with what we've got for the Caledonian Sleeper...
ah- so what happens if for example i just buy the route that contains Paddington to Exeter St Davids. Will the remaining tracks to penzance still exist but it will lack all the scenery and buildings? Because i remember hearing from someone how you can get all the needed route for the complete collection without having to buy the complete collection itself. But just buy the routes on standalone and or with bundles which can be cheaper than buying the complete collection outright. tbh we need both. The existing ones on ATS cant even be used when lot of the requirement uses add ons that cant be acquired anymore. Someone needs to make it.
That depends what you mean. From Wikipedia: The use of the "abandonware" term is controversial, as distributing out of print software and games is still considered software piracy, and their copyright is not actually abandoned. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abandonware John
Lol that's really controversial then, it's frankly either white or black, "no problem let's go" or the harshest punishment... Seems a good subject for another post, to settle the matter, or at least find a middle ground ? Or should I be crucified right now for raising the question ?
If the producer of the software has abandoned it and sees no way of making any money from it, I doubt they will put much effort into enforcing their IP. This is especially true if the owner of the IP no longer exists, or their successor has no interest in it, or the IP is clearly worthless. Fortran IV compilers anyone?
In the case of the Class 373 and the Channel Tunnel Route they assets were made free by the Developer. Unless the owners of the DLC make it Free then it's not. Cannot be simpler than that.
So you think if you find a dodgy copy of something that disappeared it is ok to have it? Still piracy - but you know this from Johns post #7 - so what is the point?
I don't have any definitive answers, I'm just opening up the discussion since the very concept of abandonware seems debatable. I'm not trying to delve into legal technicalities either, but, for example, at some point, works fall into the public domain. Therefore, not everything is always rigidly fixed. I'm simply saying that it would be a shame to deprive ourselves of the usefulness of something as long as no one is harmed. But I'm obviously not saying that this is always the case, and it may not even be the case with regard to the elements that interest us here.
still cant remember who mentioned that, but after doing some math figure. Here are the results. So you CAN technically get all the western mainline stuff from just train. no need for induvial buying because that IS full the roof for price. But by buying the western mainline base route plus the extension collection, which includes all of them. When on a sale, get these 2 will get you a more bargain price than the complete collection. Hope this helps.
