Mark your calendars, Frankenbahn: Stuttgart - Heilbronn is coming on 9th December, featuring the new BR 140 and Wittenberger cab car!

In this article we provide more information about the Audio for the BR 140 locomotive and outline the full list of layered content for the timetable, relevant for the year 2000 setting.

    Route and Content Summary
    [IMG]

We gave an initial overview of the first German route Add-on to come to Train Sim World 6 in our previous article.

This 51 km route, set in the year 2000, brings classic traction to freight services and adds another cab car to Train Sim World's German railway roster, in the form of the Wittenberger Steuerwagen.

A pre-refurbishment Stuttgart Hbf, trackside vineyards and military structures make for a distinct journey, with unique railway infrastructure also making appearance in flyovers, underpasses and the massive Kornwestheim freight yard.

Hauling this freight will be the new BR 140, a classic locomotive built between the 1950s and 1970s. Tap changer power and single release brakes will provide a challenge for players, as will the included toggleable Train Faults as part of the Train Sim World 6 core feature.

    BR 140: Audio
    [IMG]

A real-world audio recording reference trip was undertaken by the Audio Team to implement authentic BR 140 sounds into this Add-on. Sounds captured reflect what was available to record during this trip.

The sounds that came from that recording include:
    • Whistle (Internal & External)
    • Compressor (Internal & External)
    • Traction blower
    • Tap changer wheel
    • Internal running
    • Internal joints
    • Internal flange rumble
    • Brake rub (Internal & External)
    • Cab deactivation buzzer
    • SIFA Alarm
    • PZB Alarm
    • Transformer Buzz
During the mixing phase, some of the external sounds we were unable to capture have been synthesised from our existing collection.

    Wittenberger Cab Car: Compatibility
    [IMG]

In addition to Train Faults and Passenger Announcements the new cab car will be compatible with locomotives from previous Train Sim World Add-ons.

    These include:
    • BR 111 (included in Stuttgart-Heilbronn)
    • BR 112
    • BR 114
    • BR 143
    • BR 146
    • Original BR 101
    Further Timetable Information
    More layers to be added
    [IMG]

A comprehensive timetable, outlined in our previous article, focuses on the SE and RE services of the era, along with the freight services hauled by the BR 140 and shunting services operated by the included BR 363.

We also confirmed the following additional layers:
    • BR 111 Dosto services from Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn
    • BR 425 services from Pfälzische Ludwigsbahn
    • Mixed freight services from Ruhr Sieg Nord
    • Shunting substitutions using the BR 294 locomotive from Train Sim World 6: Deluxe and Special Editions
In addition to these, following feedback and further work by the Gameplay Team, we can confirm more layers which will be available on release.

    ICE and IC Traffic
    [IMG]

AI ICE traffic will feature the ICE 1 and ICE 3 from Kassel-Würzburg. The ICE 1 handles most of the ICE traffic, including filling in for a few ICE 2 services. The ICE 3 runs Expo Express trains (1 each way) out of the map to Hannover.

The original DB BR 101 Add-on will add IC AI traffic with two playable services that run halfway along the route, as well as some shunting services in and out of Stuttgart.

All ICE and IC services, apart from those playable, will run off the route at the Schnellfahrstrecke to Mannheim.

Frankfurt-Fulda brings some additional AI for the ICE-T at Stuttgart, focusing on the trains that ran to Switzerland via Singen.

    Auto and Nachtzug Trains
    [IMG]

The BR 110 from Bremen-Oldenburg, Linke Rheinstrecke coaches, Laaers and BR 363 make up an interesting layer representing the Auto and Nachtzug, or car and night trains!

These are long distance sleeper trains that travel through the night with coaches and car carriers. Back in the year 2000, Kortwestheim had two platforms specifically for handling these services. They're a mix of short passenger runs and a bunch of little shunting services for the 363 at both Kornwestheim and Stuttgart Hbf.

The platforms and loading ramp at Kornwestheim are still there today but no longer used.

    Other Services
    [IMG]

The DB BR 218 Add-on will add services that pull some coaches from Linke Rheinstrecke on an IRE train to/from Erfurt, fully playable between Stuttgart and Heilbronn.

The BR 628 from Niddertalbahn runs mostly AI services at Heilbronn Hbf but also represents a withdrawn service that ran to Stuttgart Feuerbach. It's a very short playable service that runs only in the rush hour.
Semmeringbahn also adds some ÖBB EC AI traffic to the Stuttgart area.

We can also confirm, as part of these additions, that ONE shipping containers will no longer appear in freight consists.

    S-Bahn Services
    [IMG]

Finally, we previously stated that gaps would be left to accommodate the future release of the BR 420 Add-on, by TSG. Further details about this release, including impact on timetables for route Add-ons, will be given over the course of future Roadmaps or closer to release.

In the meantime, we can confirm that the BR 423 from Frankfurt S-Bahn will occupy these services instead.

    Known UI Issue on Release:

Finally, we wanted to make players aware of a Known Issue that some players may encounter on release.

Some players may notice that the n-Wagen cab car (DB Bnrdzf 463) erroneously appears in the train selection screen, instead of the Wittenberger Cab car (DB Bnrdzf 483). Selecting the n-Wagen will show the correct Wittenberger cab car option as a listed variant.

The Wittenberger cab car is playable, if this variant is selected.

A fix for this issue has been submitted, with affected players receiving a post-release update to rectify it.

God Damnit why no Schwabstraße included and just 51 Kilometers?
I‘m waiting for 50% sale because that’s the Money i would spend for your DLC only.

The BR 110 "Buegelfalte" is missing in the compatibility List for the Wittenberger Steuerwagen. Hope it will possible in a near Future, and i mean in near Future, not when TSW 10 is released :)

In the Frankfurt area, this combination could be seen daily.

Timetable looks great, loads of really nice touches, looks like a fun route, but no mint green is a big disappointment :(

No price listed unless I’m being thick and no mention of a pre release purchase discount to sweeten things either.

As stated in my other posts, this is a short example of the type of German route TSW is already awash with. Even the incentive of the 140 doesn’t, to me, justify a Day One full price purchase. One for a 40% off sale at minimum.

I note the night sleeper train is mentioned but I doubt we are getting any “Schlaffwagons” (apologies for spelling) for an authentic consist.

I doubt we'll ever see sleeper coaches of any country in TSW. Would be neat though.

    @dtg_jan

Could you please also write down how much this DLC will cost?
Normally, this information is included, but not this time.

And I think it's a real shame that the Wittenberg control car is not compatible with the BR 218.

Train Sim World 6: Frankenbahn: Stuttgart - Heilbronn is coming soon for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, Epic Games Store, and Steam for €35.99/£29.99/$39.99

That the WiKo not compatible is is a problem that should be fixed by TSG. So i maybe Lukas can give some inside information why thats the case.

The Timetable doesn´t sound bad at all and the 140 even got new sounds but the Route still needs some more mint green. It´s just a shame, that the Line to Schwabstraße isn´t included, the Route is allready short.

The 218 has been one of my biggest purchase regrets tbh. It's a great model but you just have barely anywhere to run it in timetable mode that's on TOD5.

Really hope they take that into account for future releases.

It is not incompatible to the BR218 but the BR218 needs an update run before it can be used. I had to change some things on her to get it working with the WiKo. But the 218 is also a different release path and needs new QA and such to get that change out to you. I don't know how long that will take. I have submitted all things needed.

    That sounds pretty good overall.

And I'm glad that the sound for the class 140 was recorded in its original form. That gives me hope.

The current (?) lack of compatibility between the Class 218 locomotives and the Wittenberg control car is of course a pity. :| Please do this in further future.

The list of layers looks fantastic! So much variety -- even if a number of the layers only appear a couple times a day. If the traffic is as full as it looks, it'll be hard for me to wait for this to go on sale...

Schwabstrasse would be nice, but I think with the known general hesitation/limitations for underground portions of routes, it was expected to remain omitted.

The livery discussion really points to the weak point in the current organization and distribution of rolling stock in DLC -- there just seemingly isn't a mechanism to extend existing vehicles from other DLCs with route/era-specific liveries, let alone minor variations in the exterior or interior models. These changes seem to necessitate a "new" asset.

A re-think of how rolling stock assets are distributed, perhaps with a different entitlement/unlock system is near the top of my wishlist for TSW7 (although such an overhaul is probably more in the TSUE5 timeframe).

Basically, a vehicle (say, the BR 423), should exist as a single "concept" with one core physics/Simugraph model, but with cosmetic regional and era variations for interior/exterior models, liveries, sounds (as the 423 has both GTO vs IGBT variants), length (for certain multiple units), and perhaps minor physics parameter tweaks for... anti-slip or LZB or whatever. A route might include the core vehicle entitlement, or just a variant entitlement. The current system is increasingly chaotic, with "good" and "bad" versions of the same vehicle. The new TSW6 menu "feature" showing duplicate entries for light loco formations or whatever isn't helping either.

Each timetable "slot" then contains a set of substitutable core vehicles, with AI only ever driven by the vehicle variants appropriate for the route. But a user should be able to mix and match whatever variant they want -- like how liveries are chosen now, and perhaps even choose other vehicles that fit the general parameters.

Maybe in the short term, something could be done using the graffiti system to spray vehicles with appropriate logos or colors, rather than needing a full livery. But then people would surely complain about mismatched interiors, wrong UIC numbers, or anachronous displays on the driving desks... oh well -- gotta give new material for people to flood 15 page threads with in the forums or else things would feel rather silent around here.

I love the layers! All dough its not 100% realistic this will bring so much fun. I hope other users will the same point of view. I know a lot of other users are very negative i think better is to wait until tomorrow :)

"Coaches from LFR" - does that mean the Mintlinge? And, again, is there any prayer of making the silver Mittenwald versions random substitutions?

(I realize the 423s are only a placeholder for the 420s- but, dammit, they should be green.)

So I only see red everywhere in the year 2000 where most trainsets were a colormix of different areas.
What's not red but blue are the digital displays on the platforms. Don't know when they were spreaded in the Stuttgart area but don't think they were everywhere in 2000.
By letting out the Schwabstraße tunnel loop there is missed a chance for something unique.
At the first announcement of this route it sounded very promising. Of that, there is only the 140 and WiKo left. Disapointing.

The route itself continues to look quite promising, and there's definitely a lot of stuff layering into it. OK a lot of it is AI only, but at least it adds to the flair :)
Seeing the 628 and especially the 218 being active on any route is always a win!

Some things which bum me out:
-No 218 support on the Wittenberger cab (yet). Glad to know it's already being worked on though. The 218 can use all the love it can get ;)
-I agree that not getting the short underground stretch to Schwabstraße is a big letdown. That would have brought "that little extra something" to the route. It's like the omission of the city tunnel at Frankfurt all over again... :(
-As already mentioned, the abundance of DB red is starting to hurt my eyes. Choosing this "Millennium" time period for the route would have been the perfect opportunity to make it a colourful livery mix, without having to acquire any new licences.
-Also, no mention of random events like TSRs on this route.

Anyway, I think I'll give it a shot upon release. If only to add bugs to the Feedback Forum, which may or may not be read by the powers that be...

I see the Original BR 101 in the cab car compatibility list. Will the Expert one also need an update as the 218 does to also be used, and if so is such an update planned/underway/already submitted? Thanks

I am glad for once they listened to the input community and added some colour.

I agree that the stretch to Schwabstrasse is as appealing as the omitted City Tunnel Frankfurt, which would've enabled the S8 and S9 in their entire length.

I remember travelling to Stuttgart in 2001 and how many original Silberling coaches were still around. In fact me and my companion travelled from Nuremberg to Stuttgart and return in a trainset that was 50% Silberling and 30%Mint with the remaining 20% being the then Verkehrsrot. In fact Stuttgart was one of the last areas one could see and travel on Silberling for a long time past Y2K. It would've been nice, as the interior and exterior layout is very much unchanged to spend the Karlsruher Kopf from Bremen addon with a Silberling coating and, thus, enabling more realism not only in this addon, but also Linke Rheinstrecke 1984 and Mittenwaldbahn with more realism.

    Kind regards

The reason why DTG doesn’t show those n-wagons from other routes is mainly because of the announcements that have been reworked in this route. The older coaches from previous routes don’t have that feature, and that’s actually one of the highlights of TSW6, which I find quite logical. If you were to only use AI to display those coaches, it wouldn’t really match either. So yes, it’s a bit of a trade-off. I think asking for more layers with different liveries from other add-ons is therefore ruled out. And let’s be honest, converting all those coaches that don’t originally come with the route isn’t a fair request. Bringing up the same question again and again doesn’t really achieve anything.

jesper, thanks for your feedback. I can read between the lines, however, that you don't seem familiar with the Deutsche Bahn as of the year of 2000. Otherwise, and with the responses others have given you'd discover that it was a colorful mix and the automated announcement system you're referring to wasn't even introduced back then to none of the regional and long distance services. The S-Bahn, however, had them introduced with the entry into service with the DBBR 423. In that case, with the features you described, the year could and should have been set to like 2009 at which time Stuttgart Hbf was still unchanged.

    Kind regards

In 2000, there were no automated announcements in the n-Wagen. Only live spoken announcements. ;)

Sorry, I’m 40 and very familiar with Stuttgart from that time, so I don’t know what such statements add to your story. And why you draw this conclusion so quickly without knowing me.

Anyway, the point is that, if I understood correctly, there is an “automatic” announcement as is standard in TSW, but more authentic than in earlier modern routes. How DTG has implemented this exactly I don’t know I thought it would be reworked. So yes, it is automatic but more authentic, and possibly a voice from a real person (not AI‑generated).

Edit: its correct they will add passenger announcements to the WiKo and n-wagens

No offense meant, jesper2805 , but as traindori wrote, coaches of local and regional services (type n-Wagen) didn't feature automated announcements. Not having these would be more accurate and acceptable in this case, as most of the times or when the conductor wasn't in a good mood no announcements were made. I'll wait and see what the stream unveiles tomorrow to make my decision to either revert and buy on day one or wait for s sales.

    Kind regards

Sorry, I don’t get your point… When I’m on a train, I hear a voice from a speaker, I don’t see a physical person speaking into it, and that’s simply a voice. Ever since trains have existed, that’s how it’s been: a conductor announces something with his voice, right? Especially in the 1990s and early 2000s. Now DTG also has a voice coming through out a speaker, which basically does the same thing as a conductor a voice saying “the next station is…” and it’s not AI-generated (or text-to-speech). So what difference does it make? None, right? In TSW there’s no physical conductor either, so we can hardly ask an NPC to do it, hahaha.
And oh yeah you can turn them off if you dont like it ;)

Accurate liveries are far, far more important than announcements (which you never hear in the cab anyway)

The 101, a 200-kmh IC loco, didn't operate with 140-kmh local-service cars, including the cab cars.

Not back then, no, but it is now, in the year 2025, although no longer operated by DB itself. ;)

For functionality it shouldnt matter what it did operate with, but what it can operate with. The Wiko is i believe the most universal cabcar including the dostos, it should work with anything that in some form can operate Push/pull trains.

Thats why it works with the Standart 101, i think for the expert there its TSGs job to make it compatible as the wiko is not expert

and as written before, 101 and n wagen are in regular operation this year (theres a wiko on the other end trust me ^^

That just suits you right now, but it’s a TSW6 component and will be converted as such. You’re only trying to strengthen your argument with this, while you know very well it won’t have any effect and DTG won’t fulfill the wish for other wagons.

Dude, I literally included a picture of it in the original post. Plus, the nonexpert 101 is announced to be supported.

That’s correct in the sense that it doesn’t happen at DB. A number of locomotives have been sold to TCS (Train Charter Services), and they indeed operate with modernized n-cars and WiKo control cars. I can imagine that not everyone has this information and its a rare situation. The 101 is not designed to run Nahverkehr (local services). TSC runs between Hagen/Wuppertal and Venlo in the Netherlands until mid december.

That isn't a Deutsche Bahn train. It also isn't from ca 2000; TCS wasn't even founded until 2019, and DB didn't start selling off 101s until 2021. In 2000, every BR 101 ever built was owned by DB Fernverkehr and ran IC and occasional IR services.

There are still zero reasons in any of your posts why the cross compatibility shouldn't be implemented, when it is there on the real stock.

What do you mean? The 101 (non expert) can run with the WiKo in game and yes the 218 also al dough the more modern locos like the vectron only with the Z Stellung range

It's the locomotives, not the cab car. Older locos other than the 143 and 146 weren't built with ZWS functionality. Some older locos will have to be upgraded.

I'm not sure why in the case of the 101 it matters.

Design-wise, it's actually quite good, from what I could see.

For me, the biggest annoyance is the continued poor sound of the "Wittenberger", which was copied verbatim from the "Karlsruher". The brake squeal is still so synthetic and unrealistic, as are the brakes themselves. A real shame. :(

There would have been opportunities for inclusion, as many Wittenberger are currently traveling in North Rhine-Westphalia (special trips, replacement services, additional trips), for example with TRI.

The announcements in the n-Wagen and the control car are, as expected, automatically pre-recorded and generated. It just doesn't fit.

Any information, why the DBBR 103 is not included as it was a time when the 101, 103 and 120 were dominant in IC, EC and IR services? There were still dozens of 103 in Stuttgart. I remember watching the 103 also frequently at Nuremberg main station in front of several trains, including the IR to Stuttgart.

    Kind regards.

I'am curious if the 140 ingame will be able to run in double traction?
