No clue if any of the assumptions in the video are reasonable given current UK railway conditions or the Sodor lore. Just thought it sounded interesting as a "what if?"
I watched that this morning. I thought it was pretty interesting. The idea of Class 66's on the Island is amusing lol.
Yeah, that and the idea that the HST is a "common sight" and felt really old that's considered in the "retired" category with steam locomotives. But, well... it is as old as I am so a 50 year run is pretty good =-) There's something quaint and amusing about the thought of saddletank steam locos and Class 66s coexisting. I do wonder... is that "Walter" engine the one moving the nuclear fuel around too? Or do they bring in their own Class 20 or Class 68 to do it?
I mean.... yes... since cargo is cargo, but the video of a steam loco pulling intermodals was ridiculous yet quaint =-)
Ian the IET. Edward the Electrostar. Sid the Sprinter. Anne the Azuma. Penny the Pendolino (oh hang on, wasn’t a 390 actually named that under Virgin). Oh and the Fat Controller now replaced by the remote and faceless ROC signalling centre.
It's a good job beeching didn't visit sodor. It would probably be a island without a railway in 2025. I prefer the old version of sodor.
Well it's all just fun speculation anyway. You still have "traditional" Sodor in the main media. I just keep thinking from a logistics standpoint that would be an insane challenge. Imagine trying to keep that many different locomotives all running at once! You can't scrap any because they're living "people!" I guess you could retire them to an "old loco home" where they can sit in an old roundhouse and watch reruns of "Are You Being Served?"
