Since I am actually familiar with the mode change of the ALP-45DP DP which I only see in person at Newark Penn Station RVL and in-game version of it Newark Broad Street MoBo Morris & Essex line. Which is actually stopping in station in order to carry out the change from Electric to Diesel in both ways. For those that own the class 802/805 can you actually do it on the move change to electric and Diesel mode? Because in real life they would actually be doing this on the move for Class 802/805 yet the ALP 45 DP has it the correct way stop at station

Yes I have been on a Class 800 (pretty much similar to the 802’s just slightly less powerful) and they do the changeover on the move. Departing Chippenham towards Swindon the diesel GU’s spool up then when the train is under the catenary the noise dies away and the electric power kicks in.

As an aside, apparently GWR (corrected) are in a right mess with the “Cucumbers”. They are having a high failure rate of the fuel pumps on both the 800’s and 802’s. Unfortunately, to replace the fuel pumps apparently means dropping the whole generator unit out which is a major job. Of course the sets are spending far more time on diesel power than originally envisaged, due to the GW electrification plan being curtailed. Swansea services still have to run diesel between Cardiff and Swansea. Nothing west of Chippenham on the Bristol line or Newbury on the West Of England route. So a Paddington to Penzance service will be doing about 50 miles on electric then 250 miles on diesel.

They should never have bothered electrifying and gone with a new build of HST’s instead.

Fairly confident Hull Trains' sets do the power change over on the move, too.

Pretty sure TPE ones do it on the fly as well between Manchester and Leeds.

    Short answer, yes you can.

    Long answer, it's complicated!!

How about the West Coast Main Line Birmingham to crewe class 805 how do people do it on the move because I am only quite familiar with the New Jersey Transit ALP-45DP you simply stop at the last electric station to do the change In game NWK Broad St. For my personal experience its NWK Penn on track 5 rvl

It's as they enter/leave the ecml, but it's not on the game route
