As we know, there will be a showcase of the gwe remaster on Monday evening, alongside one more ‘announcement’. Obviously there’s no hints to what this could be, so what do people think/want it to be? My bet is a London Underground route, it’s been so long since Bakerloo and it would sell like mad
It’s probably the yearly free route announcement, pretty sure it was announced last year in the last article of that year
My hope for the announcement is London Waterloo to Southampton Central in the South West Trains era with the class 444,450 and 455 (would be very fitting since the 455s retire on Tuesday). However, the chances of it actually being that is basically the square root of nothing. The last Season of Reveals article said something like "While it isn't a reveal, we hope it's something TSW players can make the most of". Also, Train Sim Society said he hinted towards what it is in one of his videos, but given that no-one picked up on it, it probably isn't that interesting.
Is a ‘yearly free route’ a thing? Genuine question, because the only time I remember a route being free was when LGV was offered when focus took over
Sherman Hill was free last year. Pretty sure I’ve seen somewhere it’s going to be free Spirit of Steam.
I would love it to be an update from JT for Preston - Crewe which hopefully isn't far away now. Could possibly be for the HST pack which Liam said he wanted to release alongside the remaster originally?
As I've said in other threads... Do not place your own expectations on DTG and then end up disappointed. I don't mean to put a dampener on light hearted topics, but the announcement will most likely be the GWE Remaster release date with the small possibility of a small bonus to accompany that announcement. The GWE Remaster release date is something to be excited about on its own! But if we've learnt anything from last year it is, don't place your own expectations on what any announcement could be to avoid disappointment when it doesn't happen. None the less I am excited for Monday, myself, but I'm being realistic and even then I'm pacing myself!
It probably will be the yearly free route but if it isn’t then I’m going to guess the Scotrail HST that’s been going around here for a little while now.
I'd be happy with this. A nice route for layering potential, one I don't own, and one I probably wouldn't buy myself (as I don't have much of an interest in steam).
That would make sense with the comment above Re:TSS as he did mention the Scotrail HST in one of his videos IIRC. Either way, we have had loads of announcements this month so anything else no matter how small is an absolute bonus and no one will have any right to be disappointed about it!
GWE remaster, but there’s a bonus with its release. The special announcement is that the route is being extended to Oxford and Swindon. That’s why it’s taken so long for the release.
Being that the top of the dovetail live article says this And then the bottom says this; I'm just expecting that the surprise is something related the GWE. I said in the remaster thread I hope, however unlikely, that they've been granted permission to use the FGW branding, beyond that I got not idea really...
Most likely thing happening; DTG awaiting a “special” announcement, they think will excite us, and what usually happens is that none of our predictions come true and we’re left with something which doesn’t fascinate many of us.
It'll be either Release date for Metro Rivals A new Thomas DLC An "expanded" timetable for GWE PC players (which will mean it's a standard timetable for PC and reduced for Console.)
We will all know what the special surprise is at 6pm tomorrow night. For me it would be fantastic, if they were to announce along with the GWR remaster, an expansion of the route to include all the Thames Branch lines and a new terminus atOxford. Now that would be a great surprise and a wonderful Christmas present.
Indeed... Release date for Metro Rivals... no. Secret extension to GWML... no. Somerset and Dorset with revamped steam physics... no. So what I said earlier on pretty much still applies, move along people nothing to see here.
Not a free give away for true supporters is it. Like Sherman Hill last year most if not all loyal supporters own it.
Well, I'm grateful to DTG for it, as I had been avoiding it because of the poor reviews and reputation. I'm not expecting TSC standards of steam engine simulation, but it's still nice to have. Maybe DTG are giving it away to increase the steam user base in anticipation of more steam subjects, especially now that the physics will be improved for new steam DLC? There's also a part of me that hopes these improvements will be core functionality that gets picked up by legacy locos like the Jubilee and 8F. I know DTG have said it's only for new DLC, but it seems strange to improve steam functionality and then not apply it to the very small number of legacy locos.
I have to ask myself has DTG done TSG the dirty by giving away SoS in its current state. How many casual players will pick up SoS as it’s free, then realise the steam physics are absolute garbage and vow never to spend money on another TSW steam train ever again? GWE would have been a far better option as a free giveaway given the upcoming improvements. Or even Dresden Riesa to tempt people to buy Dresden Leipzig would have been a solid contender for a free giveaway.
Honestly I have a feeling they might be planning something with sos/ old steam but at the same time could have just been a coincidence
I would love to see a Remaster of SOS with Liverpool Riverside included. If they add Chester as well, I would love to pay for it again. After that please a ton of Loco DLCs starting with a 3F Jinty, followed by Black 5, Patriot, Princess Royal, 4MT, and many many more. Some new Coaches would be good aswell, some old LMS Stanier Coaches or 48ft Suburbans.
I hope and pray it's a cunning, deeply cynical plan by the DTG guys to massage the figures and show to clueless out of touch generalist management that should really be running a small department in the civil service or something that there's an installed base of XX% steam players so we should develop more steam add ons...
No interest in playing the particular DLC but it saved paying for a layer to have some steam railtours across a few DLC!
Yes please! At the same time they should talk to Gordon Mack (Matrix Trains) who has been posting on FB about dwindling sales of his TSC Marketplace coaches and bring him on board with TSW to convert some of his catalogue into TSW.
This was the only reason I bought the route in the first place!! Ended up playing through the scenarios and actually quite enjoyed it in the end. Overriding feeling was that they missed a massive opportunity though.
Yeah my only real issue with it is how quiet it is - you can only do so much with two locomotives and a handful of wagons/coaches. The physics aren't the best - far from it, though I think people are unduly harsh on it. They were certainly better when I last played it than some make them out to be.
