So many of us own it so it’s only available to new players not a reward for long standing members. It would have been nice for those who bought TSW6 special edition to be able to play the included old TSW5 routes to be able to play them in TSW 5 and not have to purchase them again like l have to do with Cardiff and Zwolle.
...they did say from the very beginning of tsw6 that routes bought for tsw6 wouldn't back-date for older games
I might grab SoS for the PS5 as I don't own it on that platform but without a buff to the timetable and steam performance... GWR remaster, well I guess our hopes that an extension to the route was being worked on and kept under wraps are now dashed. C'est la vie.
I've been playing this game for several years and never owned spirit of steam. Although that is down to how poorly steam was implemented into TSW. I'll pick it up now that it is free.
It was never advertised as an extension, not even secretely. Although I did note a few places have the OHLE look now, Reading Station, The long viaduct as well (not sure what its called, but shown at the end). "The new 2017 timetable for GWE will layer in up to 23 UK add-ons to create the second-largest UK timetable* ever in TSW, featuring an incredible 4,674 services, with 1,335 playable services for you to enjoy. This is over 5x the number of total services, and over 3x the number of playable services compared to the original timetable" * Would that be Brighton wit the biggest? Regards Hentis
To be honest, while it is nice for new players to get the free add on, it does feel like a bit of a kick in the teeth for us long term Xbox players. We constantly have to put up with announcements from DTG about large sales on other platforms, and now another free route which I already own. I have not benefited from any of the free routes so far, and am constantly expected to pay much more for my routes than players on other platforms. And it sounds like we also get more performance problems than other platforms. I’m sure somebody will be along shortly to tell me that it’s my fault for being on the wrong platform (Xbox Series X) and I should be grateful for DTG’s generosity but after having spent hundreds and hundreds on the game, it is getting a little hard to stomach. I a normally a happy clapper and try to be positive, but I am beginning to feel a bit taken for granted.
Loving the look of the GWE: R Well Done Liam, also so glad to see the 1972 stock still in there Cheers Hentis
Whoops. I was so busy grumbling about how we get treated on Xbox, that I totally forgot to thank Liam for all his work. Thanks Liam, your work is much appreciated and I look forward to your add on being a day one purchase. You definitely deserve supporting in your new venture!
Will the improved rolling stock take over the existing trains? e.g. will the HST and 166 that layer into Rivieira be the upgraded trains.
I think he meant that if he bought the tsw6 version of a tsw5 route, he should get the tsw5 version too
GWE:R is looking pretty good, I've long enough put it aside as there are always other routes to play but with the remaster I'll have to play it. Thanks Liam for all the tiem and effort you put into this
I agree. PC player too. Whenever they do this, it's always something most or many of us already own. They must realize this. For most of us it's like getting another tie for Christmas. Oh well, mustn't grumble. Nice for some to enjoy. DTG are not known for rewarding the long time faithful.
Play primarily on Series X but slowly building up a PS5 collection of UK content (to future proof if/when MS stop making consoles), so free Spirit of Steam is very welcome. Also picked up Bakerloo for £2.99 on PS today too.
it really feels like a slap in the face tbh, we contuine to complain about not getting equal sales but they can give a free route with no problems? isnt there something stopping them from choosing there own deals. lol. playstation has about 4-5 different things onsale i would problaby pick up thats i been waiting to grab yet xbox single thing is the base game onsale for the 2nd time in 2 months. common dovetail do better.
I know what was meant, but that's not how it works with tsw6 (and on I presume). As I said, they were clear about that from the beginning.
Puh-leez. Do you really think that DTG have some secret hatred of XBox players that causes them to withhold sales from you? Microsoft runs the XBox Store, and Microsoft decides when sales happen and which titles are eligible. Not the publishers, the store. Microsoft doesn't hold sales often, because they want to push Gamepass subscriptions. There's nothing DTG can do about it.
There's always a sale on the xbox store in some form. They just have less windows for individual games is my experience
DTG Alex so…another free DLC that I had previously purchased! Long time supporters - I have all but 4 US items of dlc amounting to £2k - get nothing again Alex! Perhaps consider a one time discount of an upcoming dlc. Just a thought.
I think my main problem is the sales are never even with other platforms. PSN,Epic and steam always get better sales we had 3 different sales for the holiday and only a single one had DLC and most of the dlc was already on sale about 4-5 months ago. I been waiting for Scottish Express it's 10$ on PSN. We haven't had a sale on this since it was marked down to 20ish over a year or more ago. I just want equal sales and prices.
Its been said time & time again its down to microsoft not Dovetail when the sales are and what goes on sale..
This is something that I know we've been working on with Microsoft, but they make the specific store sales and allow what is on sale. The retail team works pretty hard to get it out to folks. It's the same with the other storefronts. I think Steam is the most flexible, with the sales out of all of them.
Why not also release the Spirit of Steam: Liverpool Lime Street - Crewe Route Add-On for free for TSW 2, TSW 3, TSW 4, and TSW 5? Does this mean that those who bought previous versions are being discarded? It seems the world is becoming not only capitalist, but also dictatorial, what a shame.
It's coming out early next year, and the Elizabeth line didn't exist in 2017 when the timetable is set (other than what was TfL Rail on the other side of London).
That's a question that would lead us far, probably not the place to discuss those matters here, but just to say, one might think that Capitalism is inherent to value... And don't forget that dictatorship was something chosen by the Romans. Tyranny, on the other hand, is supported by only a variable, often minority, proportion. LOVE* it. And concerning those previous iterations of TSW, it seems logical somehow that DTG prefer the maximum are playing the latest version.
Alright, so I'm going to level with you here. It's a free DLC. It's a gift. We released it for the current release as it's the easiest to get all the platforms to agree to. Some platforms are sticklers about putting it out there for the older releases, and we may not get approved in time to gift it to you. If a FREE item makes you believe this about the world, I hope that you are checking in on your physical and mental well-being as we enter this holiday season. I am not a health professional in my capacity at Dovetail, but I have seen people make despairing comments like this during some of the worst times of their lives, so please take care of yourself. Disclaimer: I say this from a place of concern as a person, not a DTG employee.
DTG could have given away any other DLC as a free Christmas present (!) and someone would have complained. After all, everyone already owns some DLC. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose. We should be grateful that DTG is giving anything away at all. That's not something you can take for granted these days. So, despite all the criticism of DTG, there's only one thing left to say: THANK YOU! Merry Christmas to you all.
Many thanks for the awesome gift DTG I hope everyone enjoys and has an awesome Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays
As a new comer to tsw6 and a business owner myself i really appreciate the freebie and am looking forward to the year ahead
I got Spirit of Steam with a bundle (I think for TSW3) a few years back and I was thrilled to get it since it was one I'd really wanted because I was anxious to try a steam loco -- and also as a big Beatles fan, it was a kick to have a DLC with Liverpool and especially that it mentions Lime Street, which is in the lyrics to their song "Maggie Mae" -- no relation to the Rod Stewart song. Glad for all those getting it free. Still one of my favorites.
At PS5 I drove in total over 1500 miles with steam only with TSW. The Jubilee class almost hitting the 1000 mile marker Never the less the progress hasn't been taken over the moment I purchased my game PC this summer (2025) and reinstalled TSW. The funny part now is this: The Neckarelzbahn is coming. Class 23 is glancing at the horizon and now the Spirit of Steam is for free......??? In the past at some occasions the Spirit of Steam was extremely reduces in price and as I remember properly up to 90% when on sale. I own this route since the release of it. Making the most miles on that route. Did all the scenario's available for Spirit of Steam and later on the Peak Forrest. I can't get enough of it. By far much, much better then diesel and/or electric. Unreplaceable by diesel or electric, thats impossible. Replacing a steam locomotive is nearly unthinkable. Loosing the charm, the sounds, the chuffs, the work, the attitude, the rhythm, everything at a steamer is irreplaceable by an other traction method. Except for some routes I felt terrible anytime on release of modern routes/trains. My stomage dropped everytime over and over again on the release of a modern route or modern rolling stock. Now TSG is coming with Class 23 because other developers are failing tremendously on creating steam locomotives on beforehand, waving it off all the time with a variety of excuses when asked by a lot of steam enthusiasts including myself. Finally a 3rd party developer kicks in to achieve something which is desired by a large amount of steam enthusiast playing TSW I am so thankful to TSG that finally a German steamer shows up at the horizon. A steamer with a personal history because that type of engine belongs to the club where I am a part of. I helped with the restoration of that steamer including stoking/firing (See avatar) and I have some stories and memories with that engine.......... Once again a big thank you to Train Sim Germany.
I am happy more people can play a steam route, which looks quite good and is both fun and challenging to drive. If you already own it, don't be cross because other people get it for free now but just be happy for them and replay the route to get more value for the buck.
Another year... Thanks for nothing, since I bought SOS on release day for the modest price of €29.99. Not bad for a product that's still defective today! As I learned my lesson a long time ago, I take comfort in knowing that I'm very likely to get something for free someday, since I've bought practically nothing this past year. That said, I'm very happy for those who get their gift. It's broken, but it's a gift after all. Thank goodness TSG exists to take away the bad taste left by DTG's Steam. I WILL buy that on release day, because I always support a job well done.
Actually for once I’m happy. Yes, I already have SoS for my main platform, Xbox but having picked up a ridiculously cheap PC bundle on Humble Bundle a couple of iterations ago and taken advantage of the free update to TSW6, I didn’t have SoS on this platform. I have now.
