I suspect they may be playing in HD not 4k

Not being critical, but just FYI - the saying is that you're in the same boat as someone.:)

I can fairly say that, playing on Series X, I also do not find textures to be that big of a deal. I usually notice that on WCML South (all layers except TEA), the texture for the Max Speed rating posted in the cab can get blurry, although sometimes this will also fix itself during a run. I also usually see poor definition livery details on Preston-Carlisle (all layers) and Leipzig-Dresden (no RT, DCZ, or KWG). However, most of this is either not too bothersome to me, or barely noticed while driving in the cab. I have never seen some of the atrocious textures that others have posted.

Although straying off-topic, I will post my recommendations for avoiding the worst textures. This may help some people enjoy the new GWE as well. Disclaimer: this is not to suggest that DTG should not be fixing texture issues or that others should have to change anything about how they play the game. This is just describing how I manage these issues. Please don't reply to tell me that you shouldn't have to do this. I know.

Limit the amount of routes you have downloaded. I mostly limit myself to 23-26 active routes. This can also help reduce the initial startup time.

Limit the amount of custom liveries you have for the entire game. I try to stay at no more than 24. I also try to limit the liveries that can appear on any route to just four. Remember that no more than five liveries can appear in any single driving session anyway.

It helps to stay in the cab, or to use to head-out cameras.

Layer management can make a big difference. For instance, on Leipzig -Dresden and also FTF I turned off just the "museum" layers and noticed an improvement. And how much difference do the these "museum" layers make to gameplay anyway? To me, not much.

It is true that some say running HD instead of 4K can make a difference as well, but I run everything in 4K, even FTF, and like I said I haven't been particularly impacted by blurry textures. But it is certainly something to try.

There is no real solution from the player side. It is something DTG will have to fix. Until then, there are ways to mitigate the damage, for anyone who is interested.

They said early January,I think realistically towards the end, twenty something I'm guessing,as the start of the year is always slow for anything major, could even roll over to February, that wouldn't surprise me

You're wrong, both have 16GB RAM:

    PS5: 16GB GDDR6/256-bit 448GB/sec (PS5 Pro has 16GB GDDR6 + 2GB extra DDR5 RAM)
    Xbox Series X: 16GB GDDR6/320-bit 10GB at 560GB/Sec, 6GB at 336GB/Sec

Only Series S has less RAM with 10GB

I wonder how much of this issue is caused by users trying to run in 4k rather than 1080

Then the next question is, is this the fault of the user or the fault of DTG by not offering a working (4K) mode? I would say it's the fault of DTG, 4K is the default mode when you install the game, at least on Xbox and even on Series S. Also something in between HD and 4K is completely missing, but on Series X and PS5 there should be a working 4K mode, or native or with upscaling.

4K vs 1080p has nothing to do with the issue. It’s a memory issue.

That depends on how the consoles handle textures. If they are native or upscalled assets. Because native 4k textures take up much more V RAM than HD textures.

That's why top end PC GPUs have up to 32GB of texture RAM alone.

IIRC, consoles use a shared RAM/VRAM memory pool, in which case 4k would definitely be a major factor

Understood but it’s happening in both 1080p and 4K and is popping up when people have a certain amount of routes + DLC installed on either video setting.

I’m sure 4K doesn’t help (although I thought the textures were upscaled and not native), but it’s happening in 1080p too.

Unified Memory Architecture. 4K vs 1080P has everything to do with the issue...

Can you actually notice any difference between 4k and 1080.

How are you switching to HD? In game settings or console settings.

I found if you just change the in game setting it doesn't make much difference.

But if you change the system settings on your console to 1080p it does make a noticeable change. But if you do that all your games will load up in 1080p so you have to change the setting back for other games.

It makes Subway Sim 2 run smoother as well.

I'm on PC. I was replying to someone claiming that 4K vs 1080P has nothing to do with memory issues, which is complete nonsense since on consoles the GPU shares its memory with the CPU.

I’m only stating it because the issue exists in both 1080p and 4K setting on the console.

I understand that running 4K contributes to it (especially for native 4K textures, which I didn’t think were run in TSW6), but if that was the sole reason, 1080p wouldn’t have as much of a problem.

I personally haven’t run into it much, but I also probably don’t have a ton of DLC installed compared to most people here and I run mostly US routes (sounds like it’s a bigger issue on UK routes).

Please correct me if I'm wrong but I'm not too sure if I've seen screenshots of the 387's I think teasing of the remaster before? Or I'm making this up in my head lol, but are they are planned for at any given time in the future?

Sorry are you talking about a console here? A console never runs native resolution....its not how a console works! On PC you have native 4K or native 1080p. A console is an upscale machine and not a native view what you get.

There are games for sure with a native resolution of 4K on console. But there are more games with a lower native resolution, upscaled to the desired output resolution. The native internal resolution is becoming lower and lower with newer games, fully relying on upscaling technology for a higher output. However the image quality will suffer from this, you will get a more blurry picture. This is a different blurryness then the blurry textures of TSW.

I've not seen blurry textures yet on my Series S, but I also don't own all the routes. I have older routes, like from the TSW3 and 4 era and some TSW5 routes. However, Frankfurt Fulda does not have blurry textures for me, but this route has a reduced amount of layers on Series S. Frankfurt HBf is still pretty busy with multiple AI layers, like the 628 from Niddertalbahn, 442 from Kassel Wurzburg and 425 from Bremen Oldenburg, but IC and ICE layers are missing.

It looks like people owning all routes are having the most issues. I'm wondering if having installed all routes, also uses more RAM, even if those routes are not used as layer on certain routes. It would be a good test to install only one route which has a lot of texture issues, install next all the layers for this route and then play some timetable services to see what happens.

Yeah maybe Games from years ago but nearly all modern games upscaling is needed while a pc does not affected by this problem. You can choose upscaling but is not always needed (only when you re pc is very old)

For the love of God, can we please discuss those texture problems in the relevant thread? I can understand that you are all frustrated by it, but I am fed up with you talking about it in every single thread that exists.

PC not affected by this problem? Maybe not that much if you have a 5090, but DLSS is very populair and even frame generation on PC. Especially UE5 games are very taxing, even more if you want to run 4K and the highest settings. If I'm correct, most populair card on Steam is 3060, so upscaling really is a thing.

Yeah when you enable raytracing is that correct but i never use that and framegeneration is no upscaling. Is more to add fake frames that you get more fps. And when play Indiana Jones for example i do not need upscaling i play native with more then 100 fps

No, I only stop talking about it and other problems when DTG finally fix their s h i t. The reason why it's coming back everywhere on here now, explains the urgency to solve this and other problems, as it's ruining the game for many players. People are worried, gwe also will have problems, I really hope it does not have.

Most UE5 games do use Lumen, so not much choise there. Also Indiana Jones is using ray tracing (global illumination), but the engine seems to be way better then UE5. Frame gen is even worse then upscaling, so upscaling is not good enough for getting good enough FPS, so now we go even further with just making frames... games industry really has become sick.

It only makes everyone around also mad, just make a thread for it, you can keep it at the top of the list anyway if it's constantly flooded with messages. Just let people discuss other things without slapping all the issues in their face. If there will be some route specific issues, then sure, discuss them in the specific route discussion. If it is a general core problem, it shouldn't be forced into specific route discussions.

Well, there are multiple threads already, but it do not seems to help as this issue already exists for more then a year.

I was the one mentioning the hope this route will not be affected by the blurry textures, as the vid shows quite some traffic on this route. It's not the players fault when they're mentioning this, it's all DTG fault because of not fixing it for a long time.

It's not like mentioning it everywhere will change that. For the fact, if you force something on someone, it would just make him irritated. For a fact, it is not a fault of all the 3rd parties that game core is garbage, if there is a thread about something, I want to find relevant discussion about said thing, blurry textures are known for I don't even know how long. Having to scroll through plenty of ranting about it if I just want to read something about specific route just makes it worse for everybody.

By forcing the same topic everywhere you don't get more allies, but rather, enemies. Take it into account before you flood another threads with this. It's not like I don't want this to be fixed, but I would rather not see it mentioned everywhere, especially at places where nobody really is cause for this issue.

I can second almost all of what you’ve said here. I’m on series x and and don’t experience them half as much as others seem to. I follow a similar practice to you, and I also (thank you to Trainsimultaordriver on YouTube for this) shut the game and console down properly after each session.

Since I started doing that about a month ago, I’ve had zero blurry textures and I play the game for at least 6 hours every day. I have 49 routes installed and all layers enabled, at 4k res. The issue I’m now having though are crashes which I managed to escape for a period of close to 4 years

I didn't flood it anyway, just mentioned it once, others replied, because they are worried and/or frustrated too. Maybe take your own advice about forcing, you're now trying to force people to shut up and be quiet about it in relevant topics.

You are now playing the card of manipulation, at neither point I was forcing you to stop speaking about issues, I only stated that you and others should speak about issues in the place that issues belong, so in TSW Troubleshooting & Issues Discussion. If you want to keep it in TSW General Discussion then at least create it's own thread, it is being talked about in every single route discussion thread and it makes it way harder to find any valuable info about routes themselves that some devs might share in said discussions as well as any questions that some may have are getting lost it the amount of textures entries.

On a side note, it would also be more valuable to devs, if they had all the feedback about this issue concentrated in one place rather than spread out on the entire forum having to look everywhere for feedback.

In my opinion there is nothing wrong with speaking about the worry of blurry textures on this remastered route in this thread. It also give the devs a oppertunity to respond it. You're trying to force me and others to shut up in this thread and do it somewhere else. So again, take your own advice and don't force people to do or not to do what you don't like.

The 387 from BML is available with the unbranded livery in free roam but won't layer onto the routes timetable as it leaves DTG room to layer in a branded GWR one if it ever comes :)

Give me your thoughts, but mine speculate that this will come at some point down the line. In the grand scheme of the timetable, the 387 makes a spot somewhere between significant and insignificant; it it were the latter, why hold it up from being in the timetable, where players who own the loco can see it popping in and around, if it’s not feasible enough to make a while new Add-On out of it?

We originally had unbranded HEX 387 screenshots, but only seen the 350 unbranded Heathrow Connect services in the more recent trailer… do we have these still in DTG Liam ?

There were screenshots of both GWR and HEX class 387, and both won't be layers if I understand it correctly. So that if GWR class 387 was to be made as a DLC, HEX will also use that as a base, otherwise you will end up with need of two different 387s for one route.

Liam explained earlier in this thread it's not included in timetable mode. Reason, if they included an unbranded 387 in the timetable, it will give issues when they release a branded version, as this one has to replace the unbranded one. So people loose the unbranded and will be forced to buy the branded one. So stating this, make it almost sure a branded one is in the pipeline., at least that's my opinion.

Ah that makes sense can't trains just be easily replaced in timetable though? Also I'm assuming with this there could be so more GWR DLC then on the way which would be nice to get a 387

Maybe I'm wrong, but they have the GWR licence so why an unbranded GWR 387 anyway?

The unbranded one was before the licence was confirmed when the remaster was being done last year. And DTG wouldn't do a different version of the 387 with branding as a free update as the GWR 387 is a different variation to the Gatwick express one :)

I don't quite understand- the unbranded ones are reskins, after all, and if you can take a Gatwick 387 and paint it green surely you can also slap GWR logos on it.
