We all have future routes in mind but I’d like to know which UK station the forum thinks is the most glaring omission 8 years in.

I’ve been looking back at my time with this simulator over nearly a decade and despite well documented issues (that I really don’t want this thread to descend into picking apart), I can honestly say I’ve enjoyed watching the rail network in the UK expand in game. As someone who has lived in Manchester their entire life, it feels like looking back on the early days of Metrolink when it only went to Altrincham & Bury for so many years but now it goes to lots of places (but still not enough)

So, forget the route involved, which iconic stations from the UK rail network would you like to see added in 2026?

For me, the big 4 that are currently missing are fairly obvious. Kings Cross, York, Newcastle & Bristol Temple Meads.

I feel like I’m probably missing a few so would love to hear what others think.

Agreed with Kings Cross and York :)

I think Charing Cross is also fairly iconic due to it being right next to a bridge:

And Blackfriars being on a bridge:

London Marylebone probably isn't as iconic as the other London termini but I would like to see it due to it being the only unelectrified major London terminus

I don't know how iconic Dover Marine/Dover Western Docks was, but I would like to see that also:
[IMG]I imagine it would have been fairly well known before the channel tunnel opened

I would also like to see the Folkestone LeShuttle terminal, but that wouldn't make much sense as a route since basically all of it would be in a tunnel

Waterloo is the obvious answer for me - largest station in the UK by number of platforms and footprint!

Close second is London Bridge as it's a pretty iconic sight since the rebuild with the Shard.

Newcastle Central whether pre or post remodelling.

    Runner up, Bristol Temple Meads.

No Morden South, no party ;)

In all seriousness, TSW6 seems to be a bit lacking in terms of big, grand, iconic stations; we're getting Crewe three times instead. Hopefully there'll be some more soon.

I believe the north York moors railway is being done, which would include Goathland, which is where hogsmead was filmed

    What about St Pancras?

I mean, it's very notionally on SEHS, but all we see there are the highspeed platforms. The real station isn't there at all.

I agree with the majority of above posts here with King's Cross and York.

I'd love to see in TSW Leeds-York via Micklefield and via Harrogate in the same DLC. Obviously a lot of work, but potential for varied rolling stock and services.

Kings Cross, York and Newcastle feel like big misses and are all on the ECML, York would be great given it's a big junction station.

Waterloo would also be nice if we could get a SWT/SWR route.

You also have the South Eastern London Termini's such as London Bridge, Charing Cross, Blackfriars and Cannon Street, which have most of the rolling stock (I think it's only the Class 707's and Class 375's missing currently).

    Maybe Bristol Temple Meads too.

Some great suggestions here, glad I asked.

With steam making a comeback, I predicted next years core route in another thread as being Newcastle to Leeds via York with the Mallard as the deluxe loco. Really hope I’m right

If we got York to Newcastle you could have killed two birds with one stone, as Newcastle is a great station as well. Instead we got Peterborough to Doncaster which offers bugger all in terms of interesting station architecture.

Definitely Kings Cross, York and Newcastle.

I would say too Shrewsbury and Worcester (either station) as some of the last bastions of semaphore signalling in the UK nice historic stations in their own right.

At the rate they're building the NEC out, I expect US-based players might see DC Union Station as early as TSW12!

Surprised not more votes for Waterloo - second busiest station in the UK (after, would you believe, London Liverpool Street), but St Pancras should be there - if the exterior is properly modeled - not guaranteed by recent track record (Cardiff anyone?). Sameness of rolling stock would maybe be an issue, except timetabling would be easier from that angle. York is obvious, but I fear DTG would use that station (or Kings Cross) to do a clone of ECML - most boring route at the moment, in my opinion. For kicks, take a look at Huddersfield station - now thar's a building!
Tip of the hat to US - Chicago Union (or Vancouver) should be candidates over there (or here, since I live over here).

Gonna give a shout out to the very underrated Sheffield, the key to the North and gate way to the beautiful Pennines.
Many happy times travelling to and from that station.

Its now got trams and......[drumroll] Rails of Sheffield, the biggest model train shop in the UK.
Now THAT would be one hell of a crossover for DTG to get involved with.
    https://railsofsheffield.com/blogs/news/rails-announce-exciting-new-store-development

i'll even compromise and ask for a Sheffield to York route just to keep everyone happy.

Gateway to Morden, which is only an eleven minute walk to the great bastion of railway architecture, that is Morden South :D

Regarding Liverpool Street, it's definitely a station I'd like to see, but it's too bad that 90+ % of services out of there are on Aventras and, to be completely honest, there's little chance DTG would make it in an earlier timeframe.

York. Following routes could be utilised from there:

    York -Scarborough

Harrogate Loop, York to Leeds via Harrogate and also the direct line

ECML extensions to Doncaster and then North including the line down to Selby

If DTG ever secures licensing with MARC, as I dont see them leaving out local commuter lines on the NEC unless they finally adopt the unbranded stance in full force. (IIRC this was a question on the winter survey)

If they take that route, then DC could come sooner.

oh 100%. The Hope Valley Line is top of my wish list route wise and has been for a very long time. Hopeful ATS could bring us that in the future given what they did with MAC and use of current stock.

Scunthorpe (partially to see if it gets past the profanity filter). Plenty of potential freight workings with the local steel industry. If you built the route to include Doncaster you could also have a line to Grimsby.

With regards to Liverpool Street, if they were to introduce it, I have a feeling it would appear as part of a Weaver Line route going to Chingford or Cheshunt rather than a Greater Anglia route as they have the Overground license. That way any Greater Anglia or Elizabeth Line AI Traffic can then utilise the layers from Mildmay Line.

That could be an option too, though I'd hope it's done with the class 315 and 317 so it's something a bit different, as well already have 2 Overground lines that use the 710.

Another idea could be the West Anglia Main Line, with a couple of GA 317 variants and a 379 for Stansted Express. It could be set in 2019 where GA still had 317s and the existing 710 could be layered in, so you'd still have Overground AI services without having to make an Overground 317 or 315.
