    Hi all,

Brand new to the game and genre. Was enjoying the base TSW 6 base game enough to buy the Santa Fe add-on for $17 USD. However, after it installed, I only saw the train in the game and no timetables or scenarios. Basically, I couldn't use the train.

Is that broken? Did I do something wrong?

Frustrated, I got Steam to refund me the money, but I'd love to buy it again and give it another try if I did do something wrong. I even uninstalled the entire game and reinstalled it to see if that would fix it (assuming it's broken) but that didn't do the trick.

    Thanks.

You need to own cajon pass route add on to be able to use the add on.

A dev reached out and explained it. I thought I only needed the base game TSW 6. Now I find out I can buy a train but can't use it unless I pay another $40. I had heard this game was expensive but didn't fully understand that until this purchase. They can keep it. I'll get my money's worth out of the base game and move on to something else more affordable.

It can expensive if you are on console but stream have some fantastic sales. You pick routes up with anything from 70 to 90 % off when sales are on.

For the record, I just looked it up. The train add-on for $17 ONLY says this:
    Downloadable Content
This content requires the base game Train Sim World® 6 on Steam in order to play.

Nothing about having to own a track too.

Then it says it's "recommended" to get the most. Not that if you don't, you can't use the train.

    Buy With Recommended DLC
Train Sim World® 6: Cajon Pass: Barstow - San Bernardino Route Add-On DLC is also recommended to get the most out of Train Sim World® 6: Santa Fe on Cajon Pass Add-On .

That'd be like ATS selling a state as DLC then telling you to buy the jobs and contracts to do anything.

Doesn't that seem like a scam? You can buy our train but you can't use it unless you give us another $40 for a map? WTH.

I think you can still play this DLC, but only in the free room and not in the scenarios and timetable.
Fahren kann man dieses DLC denke ich trotzdem, allerdings im Freeroum und nicht im Szenarien und Fahrplan.

    Hi joeymeatballs68

There is no intention to mislead and we do our absolute best to provide players with the information they need to make an informed purchase.

"Recommended" means that use of the add-on will be limited to the Scenario Planner, Livery Editor, Formation Designer and Free Roam without any additional purchases.

Whereas scenarios/services that were designed for a specific route will only be available if the player owns said route.

Therefore, the loco can still be used albeit in a limited manner if you don't own the route the gameplay was designed for.
