hi again, whilst I really love the way your program changes the weather I am wondering how accurate the data source used is. eg We have had some bad weather in the uk recently, but when I tried to replicate this in TSW i couldn't! 2 examples. I set the weather and scenario to Birmingham this morning at about 8am. If it wasn't snowing at that time there would definately have been some ground snow..there was none! Similarly I run West Cornwall Local at both 11pm last night and this morning at 8am. Both showed very high windspeeds but no rain! Has anyone else noticed obvious discrepancies in the weather? It seems a pity if such an excellent program is limited by both DTG's poor weather implementation and if the data source is similarly poor. Either way the weather changes much more naturally and makes the game more enjoyable.

At least in the Penn Station tunnels, the ground snow slider is greater than 0, even though it should be 0. There isn't any snow shown, but the adhesion was ground snow instead of dry.

I have a possible feature that might be worthwhile to others and myself. I like to run multiple trips on the same train, but always reload back into the game to run the return service, rather than changing ends by walking down the platform as this can sometimes cause bugs in the game. I was wondering if it would be possible to "lock" the current random day and year until I close your app down, that way the weather will stay persistent (but still change minute to minute), without having to remember what year was chosen?

You can use the view online to see the bigger weather picture for the area, and see how far it is from reality (in my experience, not very far). I would also double check date and time.. i.e. if you're in historic weather mode and the required time is just one second in the future, it will roll the query a year back (becasue it cannot do future).

And tbh, calling the weather source poor kinda rubs me the wrong way. You have at your disposal aggregated weather model forecast data from all the worlds major meteorological offices (NOAA, ECMWF, UK Met Office... etc) + over 80 years of historical weather data for ANY place on the planet earth (9.3 terabytes of data). It is the best you can get atm, except for directly calling someone in that place... And you get it for free, without even a registration... It is anything, but poor... My program is not doing anything fancy, just simple math conversions, these guys are what makes something like my app, with all its modes, possible.

Seriously, check some of their blogposts out, it is insane what they do
    https://openmeteo.substack.com/

It shouldn't be at 0, the snow slider is based on the reported snow for the lat/lon. The app is only changing wetness slider in tunnels, and only if it detects it is in tunnel (either by annotations, or in-game data). Some tunnels (like the penn station) lack the in-game information that they are tunnels.

I will see if that can be made into a setting ;)

Did you select Live Weather in the app, or something else?
Because if you select Live Weather, then you should also have the weather in TSW that is outside.

The overall thing I love about this app is that I do not have to think at all about setting something for the weather in my run other than live or historic.

That may have been the problem. I used the weather finder and found some snow at Birmingham at 22.00 on 8/1/26. It looked really good. It is also well worth implementing God mode and selecting the wind strength to moderate as it blows the snow around realistically and adds to the immersion.

Is there anyway to get Cardinal Point icons to show what direction you're driving in?

That's one of the goals :) I also don't like to fiddle with apps, especially during gameplay... they should 'just work'. ;)

Not now, I have the heading, so, in theory, it should be doable in the future.

New update is out - Weather Stations

Weather stations are Points of Interests - Stations, Yards, Hills and Summits, that has been designated, by the user, as a.... Weather Station.
The application wiill download weather data for all weather stations within the 200km radius, and weather for those is shown in the panel, which is in the same location as the weather finder (just another tab).
    upload_2026-1-11_15-47-50.png

Here you can also define the stations. Note that only the closest 10 stations are updated, and the update happens only every 20minutes (or session start). This is to limit the api-calls request on open-meteo. Keep this in mind when definding your points, as it doesn't make much sense to have more stations in the same area, as they will share very similar weather (so defining only 1 London Station as weather stations should be sufficient... ;) )
The list is separate for each route (or set of routes sharing the same origin, similar as annotations, and weather profiles).

And, as alt-tabing is kinda, meh... you also hover your mouse over the permanent overlay to get additional buttons
    upload_2026-1-11_15-50-53.png
The allows you to move through the weather stations in the overlay. Pressing the 'home' button will revert back to showing your location weather. :)
Just note, that clicking on those buttons means that TSW no longer has focus, so you need to click back outside the overlay to get focus back to TSW (I will check if this can be improved, and focus can be manually get back to TSW once the panel is hidden again).

Question to the forced weather update at tunnels of >1000m.

If I understand it correctly it forces the update to the global weather of the position of the tunnel entrance, right?

I am wondering if it would not be possible to use the tunnel exit position, instead... If my understanding is correct, this should be possible as the exit position is also known to the programme.

This would solve a rather unique issue, I feel is happening on routes where you have many tunnels of various length in short succession. I am currently trying to finish all services of the expert TT on KWG and I am still absolutely loving the effect of entering the tunnel and finding completely different weather situations at the other end (especially at the moment, where in live weather fog and snow is different all over the place...). However, if I enter a really long tunnel it seems to update the weather to the entrance position and when I enter a much shorter (but still above 1000m) tunnel shortly afterwards the weather is often changing in a not so plausible way (sounds strange, but on KWG you will find this situation quite regularly). Using the exit position for the forced weather update would solve this, in my eyes...

Weird, becaue the app already uses the tunnel exit position for the weather query.

Just shows two things: I haven’t properly understood how it works and the weather really is changing rapidly:) Thanks for confirming this and good to know! It will put my mind to rest next time I am encountering this en route.

You can actually see yourself what was the query location, by using the show online button
    upload_2026-1-14_19-6-36.png

    This will open open-meteo
    upload_2026-1-14_19-7-9.png
You can then just copy the coordinates to google maps, and it will show the location on map :)
    upload_2026-1-14_19-8-8.png

In the future I would actually like to add a second button that would directly open google maps with the point... As I check this quite often, as I too sometimes doubt that the weather could change that much, and expect a wrong location / time to be queried :)

I'm trying to get this running on Linux with Proton, but so far it's not connecting to the game and the status stays at Waiting for tsw.
I run the app on the same wineprefix as TSW6 with protontricks. I have tried both, automatic and manual api key.

I am able to use the linux terminal curl to query the game and get a response, as demonstrated in the api documentation. So it looks like the proton sandbox is not the limiting factor?

Is there a way to ping the annotations app, to check is it accepting input from the api?
I don't have any coding skills, but I am good with computing in general, so if someone has suggestions how to diagnose this, I'm willing to test things out.

[EDIT] I'm using TSW6 from Steam, under Fedora 43

    Thanks!
