Hi everyone, I happened to be working by a local rail yard and got some photos! I was hoping maybe someone could give me some info on the locomotives them selves and the freight wagons! It’s located by Portland, Maine. Thank you!
From top to bottom: MEC 305 is a GP40 built for the New York Central in July 1967. Passed to MEC presumably in the early 1990s. MEC 383 is also a GP40 built for the Baltimore and Ohio in September 1971. Passed to Chessie System then CSX. Used as part of the MOW fleet until the early 2000s, when it became LLPX then GATX leased power. LLPX/GATX 3105 was leased to the Quebec Gatineau Railway until 2009, and was then leased to the Providence and Worcester. Became GATX 3105 in 2010, then was sold to MEC sometime fairly recently - that's why it's still carrying the grubby blue scheme. GATX 10875 is a sodium hydroxide tank car built in November 1998. Sodium hydroxide is the chemical name for lye, a common agent in soap and certain foods. Based on the info on the car, it was last inspected in 2013 and won't come back for inspection until 2023. The diamond indicates that the car is full of a Class 8 corrosive substance which is harmful to skin - sodium hydroxide is an incredibly strong base and therefore is not advised to come into contact with skin. MSDR 192080 is a Pullman-Standard 6007 cu-ft 50' boxcar owned by the Mississippi Delta Railroad. Not much information about this one, and based on other similar cars was built between 1972 and 1975. Given where the train is parked up in Rigby Yard, it looks like this train was a local - the tank car came either from the Turner Island bulk facility or the Sprague Energy bulk transfer. The boxcars could be from any one of the many industries in the Portland area.
I'd like to go railfanning with you. I've always wanted a YouTube channel that identifies trains and gives quick descriptions (like the ones you've given).
