I’ve recently moved from Xbox to PC and whilst the overall difference is simply incredible, the one thing I’m struggling to get a grip on is stuttering. It’s happening on routes I’ve played both new and old, and it’s continuing to happen regardless of how many runs of the full line I make. It’s bordering on excessive and definitely worse than it was on console for me. Now, I’m fully aware that stuttering is an unfortunate part of this game and can’t be eliminated so my expectations are very much in check there but naturally, I want to minimise it as much as possible. There’s a lot of conflicting information having googled and searched this forum so I wanted to ask if there are any general recommendations for settings I can change both in the AMD software and TSW from the community. These things can often change from game-to-game and as new updates come out so any help with the most recent advice would be greatly appreciated. My spec is Ryzen 7 5700x AMD Radeon 6700 xt 12GB 32GB RAM The game is installed on an SSD, my display is a Sony Bravia VH21 which is 120hz VRR through a high quality HDMI and I run the game at 1440p Foliage - High Shadow - Medium Effects - High Sky - High Fog - Ultra Post Process Quality - Ultra View Distance - Ultra Texture Quality - High Max FPS - I’ve tried both unlimited and 61fps with mixed results on both, which is the main reason I’m asking for some advice actually Screen Per Vsync - similar to above, toggled this on and off with mixed results and read conflicting things Overall, I’ve got to say that the PC experience of this game is, as so may others have been saying for so long, so much better than console and Im at a stage now where I’d be selling my Series X if it weren’t for the impending release of GTA VI. If you’ve been thinking about it, and can afford it, just do it.
I went in the other direction. Saved up for ages and got the money together for a really top spec PC, but then when it came to the crunch I realised it was stupid to spend all that money just to play TSW, when everything else I enjoy works fine on my console and so changed my mind and saved the cash in the end. Back to playing other games a lot more again now and they all perform well on the console they are sold for!!
I have saved money for a high end pc and i can not say its waste of money. I had a lighter pc before and the upgrade is huge. So i dont no what you have done wrong but i can not follow this theory. Very important is to choose wisely and have a stable pc with all parts on the same level. Thats for TSW extremely important. Oh and dont expect 300fps thats also a big mistake in gaming. Users looking way to much to fps instead of quality
I’m guessing you’re addressing Tom there and not me? I’m absolutely delighted with the switch and all aspects of performance except for what I’ve outlined above with stuttering. I just want some tips on how to tame it as much as realistically possible
slightly off topic, maybe this is how it was for you but there were just so may routes that were of interest to me that were a disaster on console so I never bought them or had them refunded. The blurry textures mess was the final straw. As frustrated as I am by that, I’m a train enthusiast and I’m never going to not play a train simulation with this many routes so I had to procure the best possible system I can afford to do this without limitations. Appreciate that not everyone can do this but I feel grateful that I can. As far as those low performing console routes go, I picked up Frankfurt S Bahn on steam last week and wow
Screen percentage to 150 works like a treat for me. Iirc it is default to 100 try changing that to 150 see if that works for you.
Is this TV 4k? And whats the screensize of this tv? Playing on larger screens ask for extra GPU power and youre GPU is not the best you can get. I will advise to buy a pc monitor then
Hell no! XD Better you look in the windows task manager while gaming and you see that you don't need that! And when you try to buy 128GB you pay prices those are not fun....
I haven't done anything wrong. I play on Xbox as the game was sold to me to work on Xbox. Was then told if I actually wanted it to work I need to buy a decent PC, which I was going to do. But when the time came to part with the money, I changed my mind, as I decided it was actually not worth it. Everyone is free to make their own minds up and spend their own money however they see fit, I was just offering a counter point.
Ah okay now i understand. I was misunderstanding your'e story. You did not buy a pc. I was understanding that you did but not satisfied with the result
Previously, I had a similar configuration in terms of power, only on the Intel platform (i5 13400f). And the same video card. First, you need to play in DX12 mode. You can use the maximum settings, but they don't make much of a difference. The Jetwash mod is worth using. But I think you're expecting too much from the old 6700XT. I currently have an i5 14600kHz and a PX9070. The monitor has a 2560x1080 resolution, and even on the most demanding routes, I can't always get 60 FPS, even though the graphics card is always at 100%.
Stable 100% overall 60fps is more a choice. You can get that when you have a 5090 and playing on 1080p and low quality yeah its possible but i prefer quality above fps so its for me no big deal when the game is lower then 60fps in some cases.
On average, I get over 40 fps, even with drops. But to achieve this, it's best to drive the entire route several times.
I don’t even think it’s possible. I played on a 2024 top spec PC with 64gb of RAM and it still stuttered.
What you're saying isn't true either. I've set the FPS to 60 in TSW. The screen magnification to 150% works great for me. I usually have 60 FPS on the tracks, except in the big stations, where I have 35 to 45 FPS. And I also use the Jetwash mod. And that's at a resolution of 3440 x 1440. With the following components. I7-12700KF Geforce RTX 3080 TI 64 GB RAM
That’s exactly what I meant. You may have 60fps overall, but there are simply areas where TSW falls behind and stutters. So if you count those, you don’t actually have 60fps. Over a longer measurement period you might, but not if you include every stutter and every demanding area. TSW just isn’t very stutter‑free.
No, even in areas around large railway stations, I do get slightly lower FPS, but I still don't experience any lag. I very rarely experience lag in TSW, but I don't know why that is.
Sorry "lag" is not possible in TSW! Lag is network delay and "stuttering" is that the game needs to load the distance in TSW and you always experiencing that. Thats how the engine is build. And you have reduce FPS due to higher texture load
