As an aside I was actually able to successfully load a save game yesterday evening. Had started a SP scenario with the 163 after teatime and saved it. Just thought I would try to resume the game when I went back on the PC later and it worked. I had to reset the main switch and power back up, also the HUD was initially showing the previous location instead of the next as it did in the early alpha. However I was quite pleased at being able to continue the run. I saved it again before coming off at bedtime so will be interested to see if second time lucky later on.
On discord I’ve read that some people save Game after the stop (station) and to be sure that the Train is not on the railway switch. Probably save might work better. I did not try this yet.
I like the 163 and being able to hear it at work when opening up, I suppose I was lucky as I was able to coast a lot as only doing 80kmph so not too noisy but overall enjoying it, but I too am really looking forward to a diesel loco.
Liked this from discord "That quality over quantity thing I keep mentioning. There are train game companies who focus on making as much money from the customers as they can, rushing DLC's, making you obtain a new version of the game every year if you want any new DLC's to work, they have a large dev team, most of which have never been in a train cab in their lives. Some I imagine have never ridden a train as a passenger. so research is watching youtube videos and guessing. But SimRail is different, it's a tiny dev team, but most of them spend their lives around trains, most i think are or have been train drivers or worked on the railway in some form, and this sim is based on the driver training simulators their parent company build. They also try to make everything they release as good as it possibly can, and release stuff when it's ready (to a point, there will always be deadlines, but it's not like 'ok, deadline is set in stone, if it's not ready on this date just remove the bits you havent finished and bodge it so it kind of works' ) And the main thing, as with everything in life there will be bugs, things that could be improved etc, but here the team actually do that, so this loco will improve as time goes on, i much prefer that than releases that are just left 'as is, take it or leave it' as tsw does things...."
Aparantly you can reduce the electrical noise by turning the motor disconnector to PMI(and get half power) so the motor nearest your cab end is off. Reminds me of an old driver who only liked driving the Southern region demus if he was in the trailing end as it was quieter.
Yes I tried that and it worked. Didn’t notice the loss of power but then I was only on a short passenger consist. Of course you lose some of the traction sound as well and I also found the horns no longer worked, but dropping the odd 50 XP for the level crossings a reasonable trade off for my sanity! The question is, will SimKol heed the feedback and change the levels slightly or stick to their guns that it’s realistic?
Maybe they need to add option for driver to use noise canceling headphones I like this new loco a lot. Nice details added everywhere. Seems to be loyal representation of the real thing. But I agree sound is a lot to handle.
This evening I dropped in a 2300 tonne freight which struggled to move without any traction motors switched out!
Take a look a the Simrail Wiki, the 163 has a lot more functions to play with. https://wiki.simrail.eu/Vehicles/Poland/Trains/Locomotives/71E
For "earplugs" you can use equalizer apps to lower the gain at specific frequencies, and for "sunglasses" you can use reshade to remove the overexposed look games have nowadays

So… does this mean they sorted out the save game not loading, I wonder? Will give it a try after tea and see what happens. First the bad news… it looks like any saves from before the update still won’t load. Now the better news. I just successfully saved and loaded SK2 32804 on the Krakow route. I got a spurious ready for departure message and it resumed with the driver’s torch switched on (turn off with N), but fingers crossed they’ve got it.
Save games works a lot better, but there are still some bugs. Spawning in the wrong cab or a train jumping like a bad horse.
Yes I will have to try a few more saves, also see if we can now save/load on the original route. Though for now I've broken off to finish a run in TSW.
Edit: Successfully loaded a second save of the above scenario. Same issue with the driver's flashlight being on but otherwise looking good.
The save game is always starting in the cab where you start the scenario. I had even in freight train that was completely turned around when I reloaded the save game
Not had chance to try the latest update but it seems with the latest update that the save game function is working a lot better but not perfect, at least its going in the right direction. Did the panto height of the 163 get fixed?
Not been on the 163 to check but I had a third successful save load yesterday evening. I will hopefully finish that run this evening then I want to check if we can now save on the original route and also the 1980’s steam scenarios.
Sounds promising then Vern, I just have not had the time to have a look myself. Regarding the pantograph height, on another forum someone said it not fixed yet but if you lower then raise it goes to the correct height.
Part of the upcomming route/extension DLC. Note the increase in passenger traffic at stations, and we are seeing the first maneuvers under the guidance of AI dispatchers—such as cab changes for return trips. This will give us a fairly large, unified, and living railway network, which is practically unattainable for TSW with their isolated, fragmented routes.
Just a note on this, all shunting/changing cabs etc is already possible in the current version (SP only ofc) The more experienced scenario makers get, the more will be possible in my eyes. I have given scenario making a try today (It's all lua coding) and it is not easy if you don't know what you are doing. It took me a whole afternoon to figure out how to spawn a train in the form of a choice menu and (both in cold or active state) and to clear a signal on informing the dispatcher you are ready. Luckely the Simrail wiki helps a lot, and the community discord has loads of helpful people!
Check the ultimate Guide, lots of usefull information. https://forum.simrail.eu/topic/11995-en-the-ultimate-guide-for-simrail/#comment-51997 The thing I like the most is compleet difference between the train types and all the functions in the cab, i just found out thats its also possible to place end of train marker signs in the front the loco. Like the wagons of Tsg in tsw. But als the length of the Missions, 2-3 hour drive add full speed is also a difference comparing with tsw.
And now the save game is working moderately well, you can do the longer scenarios over several sessions.
And I just had a load game fall down with a failure to create route error, just outside Tunel. So I had to revert to a previous save and repeat that section. Probably a good idea to save every 10 to 15 minutes to protect against it messing up. Luckily the next save restored okay and I was finally able to finish my first scenario (other than Training) on SimRail.
