Is there a way to move the seat/viewpoint in the locomotive?
Some of them are nearly impossible to use without the HUD to show basic instruments, while still have a useful view of the track and signals/signs.

Unfortunately not (except for the Class 45 from Northern Trans-Pennine which can be lowered and raised)

There's a German loco you can (and should) move the seat. Think it's the 204 IIRC

On most trains, you can't move the seat or view. It would take to dev time to do all the animations and other stuff required when you lower/raise the seat so they pick whatever seat position they think is best and stick to it. It's something that seems small but would need a work to implement

I’m sure it won’t be much coding to change an in cab camera position.

    Let's see:
We would need to change the camera height, but that is fixed to the player's avatar, so we would need to lower that
We would also need to lower the seat, which will require a complete redesign of the seat model.
We would also need to calculate the distance between the avatar of the player and the seat, but that shouldn't be too hard.
We would then need to change it back to default for when an AI takes over, so that they are not floating or anything, or change the AI to make them change their height based on the seat's height.

And we would need to minimise the impact on performance.

There is a tendency at the moment to have the camera (that’s what it really is) set too high in the cab. This means views from side windows are obscured and the front view is often obscured by raindrops because the wipers are wiping where the view should be from but that doesn’t align with where the view is centred. I was driving ES44AC in Cajon Pass today and the wipers were wiping well below where I was needing to see out of the window because the driver view is set so high. You would think that because the view can’t be changed, the devs would choose more carefully and check that you can see out when it is raining.

There should be a control for moving the driver camera position within a range of possibilities so you can adjust the view to suit rather than having to rely on the (sometimes quite odd) choice the developers have made for the one fixed position. The majority of the BR blue locos have seat height adjustments and I always have to lower the seat from the default highest position but in other locos there is no such choice.

The driver view does not have to correspond with the height of a seat or an avatar if the way it is done is altered, as there is no physical avatar when driving from the seat anyway, so that is the way it should be done. The seats can stay fixed, it’s just the driver view camera point that requires a system of adjustment. I’m fairly sure the devs can find a solution.

    No, you wouldn't.

As soon as you sit down the player avatar is hidden, and the seat can stay put. There is already code to translate the viewpoint wherever you want in the cab, just press left and right arrows. All we need is a "freecam" position where we can place (and hopefully save) a custom location, direction and FOV. Most of the code is there already.

Right - so you were talking about the camera and not the actual avatar. Makes sense.

Obviously, this would not be implemented in the cab because of the issues I listed above. However, I fail to see how the adjustment of the camera could be very difficult for DTG to do if it were an option in the settings.

Agreed, there’s several trains your view is raindrops

Interestingly, the Class 166 has the opposite effect - the seat is too low compared to the wiper, so you can only see things that are very far ahead - interesting balancing act here.

And in the Class 45 I always feel like I'm kneeling on the floor

Really? I find that I have to lower the seat whenever I start a service on it (and lower the secondman's backrest for laughs!)

    ...I'm confused now.

We are talking about the same Class 45 from Northern Transpennine right?

Are avatars different heights in TSW?

There's one thing sadly missing from this thread: not a single screenshot that would allow others to see what you're complaining about!

See the attached screenshots. This is the Talent2 just outside Aarchen. Not the worst example, but shows the issue clearly.

DTG absolutely must implement a variable camera height into TSW 3

Unfortunately UUU4 does not work with TSW4.
It is unbelievable that we can't still adjust the seat / view camera...
I searched a lot, found nothing.
Does someone know if it can be done somehow?

There is no option to adjust the seat or fov for most trains. I think it's very odd for a game like this to not have the ability to adjust the camera or fov. Simrail and Subway Sim 2 has that option as do many driving based games.

When I play the M9 on LIRR commuter that I got on the recent Xbox Sale, I find the seating position a bit to high. Would be nice to adjust the seat to be lower

Well, I don’t know - but unless someone can tell me differently, the problem remains. The worst one I’ve experienced is the HST. The Driver’s viewpoint was always too high and prompted a lot of comment to that effect (to no response), then one person on Discord commented that they thought it was too low, and immediately DTG raised it! It’s now ridiculous - it’s like driving the train with your head glued to the ceiling, peering down on everything.

It does show, though, that DTG can move the Driver’s viewpoint fairly easily if they want to.

It’s so annoying that the first trains DTG produced for TSW had adjustable seat heights, and then they removed this very important feature for all trains after that.

Just an FOV slider would make a huge difference. Some trains I feel like I’m inches away from the windscreen.

That being said, some trains like Class 101 and Class 378 I hate driving purely because of the height you’re sat at.
